    I think it's because an act of Congress gave them the power to name geographical locations for the federal government. If Ohio wants to keep calling it Mt. McKinley, they are free to do so, but it wouldn't mean much.

    The job of the government is to create "solutions" for problems that they create. A self-driving car only needs to replace a human driver-- it doesn't need to become an arm of the state. The police detain people, not cars, so it should be the person's decision. Don't make self-driving cars be at the mercy of the state just because you can!

    The disk buffer is indeed a write cache, and modern disk driver software uses the ATA FLUSH CACHE or SAS/SCSI FUA commands to enforce physical writes.

    See, if I make a copy of a sound file or a movie, I can give it to someone and they can listen to it or watch it. That's what media is for: listening or watching.

    Isn't food for eating? Is there a large contingent of anorexic foodies who like to buy pretty food, then just look at it?

    Apparently, in Germany, if I take a picture of my BMW and post it, BMW can sue me for copyright infringement... although you might believe the i8 is a work of art, I think you're supposed to drive it.

    I know this site is US centric, but do we really need the flag waving?

    I know you're used to every reference being a negative one-- gun totin', ignorant, obese 'muricans-- but pointing out the everyman aspects of the 747 versus the elitist Concorde is just contrasting the two cultures. It's not derogatory or complimentary to either side. And it reflects in the design of the aircraft, which is the "real topic".

    OK, maybe you meant people without dependents. Sure, but what makes the general population more entitled to your hard-earned wealth than your family? And what about the family business? Don't mind the fact the kids are working hard in your restaurant, preparing to take it over when you retire. Because you died, so now it's closed, sold to the highest bidder and the proceeds given to bureaucrats to play with. Guess Junior can just get a job waiting tables somewhere!

    In the USA, people do that all the time with social security. Deceased family members are not reported and mentally disabled people have their benefits taken and are given little to no care in return.
