  1. Re: Statists will not go quietly into the night on Finnish Police: If You See Uber Car, Call 911 · · Score: 1

If you don't want to risk loss, don't make loans without collateral. Then there's no situation in which you've got an excuse to use force to compel someone to pay back a loan.

So you've never heard of banks foreclosing on a loan and having the borrowers squat in the house until the police kicked them out? Or a lender having to repossess a car? They may own the collateral de jure, but de facto they must take possession. And this requires some cooperation.

the Libs want to be able to purchase court and police services on the open market from the lowest bidder

Why would you assume someone is a cheapskate because they're a libertarian?

I can tell you that in the USA, our police are not given anything like that level of education and instruction... yet, they are given high levels of authority and some of the best weapons available. And if they wrongly arrest someone? Oh well, you can't expect them to know EVERY law! Except of course, citizens are expected to, because ignorance isn't an excuse for breaking one.

I like how you made Nixon an honorary baby boomer. He's kind of the universal villain when Hitler is too much, right?

The main fault of the Baby Boomers was not recognizing that the post-war economy they were born into was finite, and that they were going to have to deal with setbacks and recover from them gracefully. Instead, many bought into the endless prosperity gospel of the Keynesians and used government to manipulate the system. Hey, it worked for FDR, right? Wrong-- that was the wartime economy. FDR's policies were mostly a failure until war broke out in Europe.

Obviously, this is untrue because the very article we're commenting on is about a company that offers a very lengthy amount of leave, and it's not the only one. What the USA does not have is a federal government that mandates leave. Some of the states do.

The number of single moms has gone up per capita. They aren't using the contraception. There just aren't that many "accidents" with the known efficacy of birth control. I'm anti-abortion but pro birth control. I'd rather people not hump like bunnies, but I feel that government is not to be used to impose morality. Likewise, I don't think people who refuse to keep their natural urges in check shouldn't be allowed to use the government to maintain their decrepit lifestyle.
