Restrictive licenses don't have to be about money. I'm not saying that this isn't motivated by the bottom line, but that this is just poor logic--I've seen no evidence that this is motivated by money, so there is no reason to draw that conclusion.
Why go to the library when everything, and more, is available on the Internet? The library is just a waste of time and energy. We're not illiterate, just more efficient.
MTV's underlying premise is that the music industry's success is measured by how much money it makes. If music isn't making money, then it's "broken". I think this attitude is a large part of why the record industry is losing so much business.
Why are they pushing to make games more and more like real life? Why even empty your wallet for a fucking game when you can walk outside and experience the same thing?
We play games for FUN (or used to, at least), not to rate which games have the most unpredictable AI, or which games can portray water closer to the puddle outside my window.
Call of Duty 9! Same as 1-8, but now you can see the pimples on the Major's face! And the ducks actually bob with the water! Oh how fun!
Not considering platform quirks (like the anti-aliasing issue), Firefox totally destroys Safari, mainly because of plugins. If Apple could stimulate more plugin development, I would use it. But the huge plugin dev community for Firefox is one of the main reasons I stick with it--the usefulness of the plugins is beyond reproach.
Most citizens don't know that it goes on. Something like this usually will be lucky to make it in the newspaper at all, and if it does, it'll be in the very back in tiny letters, next to the escort service ads. "Generation X" is a lot more keen about what's going on (because we get our news not from TV or the papers, but from the Internet, blogs, and social news sites like this), but the baby boomers seem to be very resistant to the changing times (hence "conservatism"). And there're a lot more baby boomers than Generation Xers.
There's also a pretty negative outlook on the entire political process...a lot of people I know don't vote either out of apathy or because they're "vote doesn't matter anyway."
And lastly there's the partisanism...American politics has veered way off course and now when people think of politics, they think of partisan smear campaigns--which is all election campaigns consist of anymore. One of the most-listened-to radio hosts, with 10 million listeners, wrote a book called Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder. Yes, a prominent "conservative" voice contends that holding particular mainstream political opinions constitutes a mental disorder. A lot of young people, including me, are tired of that bullshit already and that's why, for example, Ron Paul has such an amazing following on the Internet (comprised mostly of young people). There is a large group of mainly "Christian Conservatives" in the Baby Boomers (you probably don't meet them, most don't travel to Europe out of spite) who are living decades ago, getting all their news from the tele and newspapers...they eat up all the political rhetoric and bullshit. These are the folks who believe the earth is 6,000 years old and that global warming is a liberal conspiracy to control the world.
Anyway, the reason this stuff doesn't change is because people don't think it can. The hostile "conservative" movement has no respect for opposing opinions, authority, or government, and when those people are elected to run the government...well...you get what we have now.
Yup, it's not about quality software, it's about money. Hardly anyone makes software anymore because they want to or because they like making quality software...they'll just do the bare minimum they can to maximize profit.
This makes no sense. Enforcing a protocol ban will take way more time than it took to fill out extorti^H^H^H^H lawsuit papers. Especially with the protocol obfuscation encryption that the new BitTorrent clients have, it will take a staff of network engineers to administer the network, as opposed to a staff of student-slaves to fill out paperwork. So either they're stupid, or that excuse is bullshit and they're just going through the motions to appease the RIAA.
The solution, as always, is not to outright ban something, but to provide the service with certain consequences (e.g. bandwidth throttling, extra fees, lawsuits teehee). And propaganda, of course...
Get rid of grades. Grades create massive amounts of external pressure, and that extrincsic motivation causes kids to lose any intrinsic interest they had in the subjects. Why doesn't hardly anyone read or do math on their own anymore? They're forced to do it. Basic psychological principles of motivation..
Well as we all know, there are many people named Richard who received the email. I haven't seen any evidence suggesting that the email leaker is the same as or even linked to the original leaker. The original linker might never even have received the email.
In terms of weight loss effectiveness, exercise is nearly useless in comparison with diet. This is no secret, although it no doubt takes millions of dollars in government studies to uncover this exoteric fact.
It is likewise unreasonable that CDs will only play in CD players, that MP3s will only play with an MP3 decoder, that HP printers can't use Canon cartridges, and that 0.5 mm pencils won't accept 0.7 mm lead. Not fair!
I think it's akin to saying: "What if I buy a 10mm screw but I want to use it in a 5mm hole?" At some point, consumers stop being victims and start becoming whiney assholes.
For $10 Dell will include a reinstallation CD. I always get them for my clients and the absolute first step in setting up a new Dell is a reformat/reinstall.
And where's my new sanely-priced mini? Come on, keep the current specs and drop it to $300-$400.
But then they wouldn't sell any Apple TVs (as if people buy them anyway...).

Like Alan Greenspan?
"Hey look, the photons accurately react with the environment according to current laws of physics! Finally they figured out how to make games fun!"
:-\
The obsession with graphics is ruining the gaming industry. Compare the PS3's sales to the Wii's for evidence.

Both the Windows and Mac versions of Safari 3 pass the Acid2 Test for me.
I don't think it was a physical keylogger since she was using a laptop.

LOL! I guess Lucas has to pay for his indie films somehow...

Since you can read my mind, might as well win a million bucks.
-_-
The US still has serious, fundamental concerns about this draft statement.
Correction: The US Government.

Don't say anything on a blog without making sure it's legal to say it. Sad but true.

Am I missing something? What does the literacy rate have to do with the story?
