I don't understand what you are talking about. I own a company - partner of Novell/Suse and I can assure you Suse is not only not bankrupt but is generating a nice income for its partners. You seem to be stuck in 2002, it is 2005 now.
I don't like discussing business on/. but believe me, Novell's strategy as far as Linux/Suse is concerned is pretty coherent and the fact that they have put SLES9 on equal footing with Netware speaks volumes.
I am also a paying Mandrakeclub member (gold) for about a year and a half and I have become increasingly amazed at the low quality of their products. At some point, I tried to make my company a partner of Mandrake, let's just say I have never met a more unprofessional reply in my life, and that includes the Redhat robots that spent three months reading my email before answering.
I don't know what your beef is with Suse but, technologically and marketing-wise they are fighting head to head with Redhat. Spend less time quoting and more time testing their software.
I hate the fact I sound like a fanboy because I really am not, Suse through the Novell brand is hugely sellable and a great product that runs from laptops to IBM monsters.
Suse went bankrupt? Are you on drugs? They were bought by Novell (much like Ximian) and SLES (Enterprise Server) is a huge seller. Novell have ported their Netware services to SUSE SLES9, please check www.novell.com/oes.
What you lack in facts you certainly make up in conviction.
there are only two distributions. Redhat and Suse. All the rest are irrelevant / hobbyist projects or catering to niche markets.
Vendors concentrate on these two distros because companies standardise on them. They also have certification programmes to make sure your software is compatible with their OS.
There is absolutely no reason for mandatory standardisation. The market is taking care of it.

Linux+ "certification" counts for next to nothing. You are much better off getting vendor certification. There are, of course, two main distros in the real world. RedHat and Suse/Novell. They are different enough to make saying you know both a stretch, let alone get in someone's office and say "I know linux".
Invest some money in becoming a red hat admin or a novell certified linux admin, it is well worth it and you will reap the rewards. And a free tip. When interviewed don't start with gentoo's elegance and debian's idealism. Gentoo and Debian don't come with service contracts, companies are not interested in them.
I am fed up of seeing this stupid comment on every other story posted in slashdot, and equally stupid replies by zealots who value "choice". There IS a standard distro. It is called Linux Standard Base. It is adhered to by Redhat and Novell and that means 99% of SUPPORTED workstations out there adhere to the standards. All the other distros, be it debian, gentoo, overclockix or whatever are either irrelevant (a distro to stress your hardware? Please...) or serve for a specific purpose (hobbyists, GPL freaks etc.). Just accept it and move on,
Basically, middle-class Europeans speak at least English and, depending on the country, one more language. It is definitely a new phenomenon, I remember being amazed as a kid at people speaking English AND French, nowadays no eyebrow is raised at, for example, my speaking fluent Greek, English, Portuguese and French...
Move to Portugal. 8Mbits for 80 Euros, or 4Mbits for 40... Not bad. A year ago I used to pay 240 Euros for a 1Mbit link, oh my how times have changed...
I like Entourage for email (I use IMAP, Mail.app is simply inadequate for multi-folder IMAP work unfortunately) and ical and address book. It all works together. How? Through isync, using a little shareware called Gobetween (google it, don't have a link, sorry).
Regarding mail apps, the format your mailer uses to keep emails is irrelevant if you use locally-cached imap. Just work on the server, using postfix or whatever your system administrator has chosen. And when migration time comes, it is easy to just push all old emails, with references (which email was a reply to which one, etc.)
I quite like Microsoft's apps in the Mac, except Excel, that is, that insists on opening xls files in a ridiculously small font... WHY!????
The British not having switched to the Euro has nothing to do with the Euro's strength and everything to do with the Brits not deciding (once more) whether they are part of Europe or not.
The weak dollar artificially deflates American trade-deficit. That's all there is to it. When (and if) the dollar climbs back to 2000 levels, trade deficit WILL be a problem.
Your current administration has you walking on a tightrope, and you will reap the results of its incompetence for generations. Pity the economy, or rather a proper analysis thereof, is not an election issue for the majority of voters in your country.
Generally the unemployment rate of a country is a totally unimportant indicator of economic stability. It is, in fact, irrelevant. Doubly so given the fact that a sizeable part of US' wealth is produced outside your borders.
Or, to put it in other words, you could all be jobless and live in a wealthy country. And, in fact, in a few years it will be thus.
The only thing keeping your economy afloat, despite of HUGE deficits and insane economic policies (cutting on taxes while increasing on military spending etc.) is the fact that all first and second world countries base their own economies on the dollar, partly because there was no alternative before the euro came into play, and partly because it was a Marshall-era remnant.
The moment the dollar loses that unique place, as a pillar of financial stability, economies around the world swap dollars for euros at an ever dropping rate. The dollar is 1.36 euros now, while two and a half years ago it was 0,85 or less, I cannot remember. Generally speaking, this trend has not been worse only because the Chinese (of all countries) are supporting the dollar buying enormous amounts of it on the markets.
The way your economy is going, and the way the euro guarantees its own stability through various WORKING mechanisms of the ECB, it is undeniable that in the next twenty years or so the Euro will be where the dollar is today. And since your whole economy is supported by outside economies, it is very probable it will collapse. Why? Well, its exchange rate will hit the floor and will bring huge price hikes to anything that is not made 100% in the US. Which is, everything.
So, when you vote for "less taxes", you put one more stone in the end of the great American empire. I, as a European, shake my head and wonder whether you Americans have any idea what is happening in your country...
You obviously don't understand Erisian teachings if you think conforming to slashdot groupthink is compatible with Lord Omar's Epistle to the Paranoids.
The key word in my message is "distributing". I doubt that distributing an album to 300 people through bittorrent falls under non-commercial personal use copies
You are ignorant. The only countries where copyright infrigement is not considered a crime are third world countries, cut off from the rest of the world. Distributing software (programs, videos or music) for which you don't have a licence is a criminal offense in the EU and all aspiring EU members - basically the only country where a grey line exists is Albania.

I also think you misunderstand the meaning of the word "bankrupt".

Well, no corporation would consider anything but Novell and Redhat, let's say, for the sake of being complete, Xandros and Sun JDS.

I bet they would appreciate it even more if you recommended Redhat WS or ES rather than Fedora.
Not in the least bit trolling but if you need help with configuring a printer, answer this thread with your problem and I'll help.

Do you have any idea how much 1Mb of RAM cost in 1984?

Have you ever been in one? I drove one last week and it was surprisingly comfortable (I'm 1.86m, so hardly tiny).
