Fact is, my personal opinion after being innundated with such excellent games as Zelda WW and Metroid Prime is that I will not find something as powerful on the PC judging by the E3 previews I've seen. I might be mistaken but I see the same old types of games being promoted, MMORPGs and FPS. I thoroughly enjoyed Freelancer (as I did Homeworld which I expected you to mention btw), and the previews for Tron 2.0 seem promissing. But look for a game that will give you the sensation that Metroid Prime did, and you will realise that you won't find it on the PC.
MP btw was innovative not just because of its control scheme. Think of what you felt when you got an upgrade, for example - so many things you could do back there if you could jump that much higher... I was completely immersed in the story. And Zelda, well, I don't know what to say, it only came out a week ago here in Europe and i truly think it is a work of love.
Don't know really, maybe I'm too much into Cube games this period that I cannot appreciate the finer points of pc games that are coming out, so I'm willing to accept your point since you profess a strong preference to Zelda:-)
I was refering to the current state of affairs. As much as I appreciate Grim Fandango, it did come about five years ago. The same timeframe applies to the rest of the games you so kindly present as "proof". I enjoy the occasional pc game but for originality I turn on my console.
I am looking very much forward to Doom III, Half life etc. but I very much doubt they will reach Metroid Prime and GTA Vice City in terms of innovation. And that was my point. Okay, since you are asking, I'll answer. If you are a true gamer, forget pcs for anything original. By the time they come out they are hyped to hell and generally not worth your time. They might be fun, but they are not original. Nothing comes close to consoles for an excellent gaming experience. So, if you are loaded get all 3 major consoles and the big hits. However, realistically, you should place your bets on one of them. Which one? Honestly, Gamecube. It might not have the names you are used to hearing, but you will be able to play two games that are truly amazing, for different reazons, the new Zelda and Metroid Prime. There is nothing on the PC or the consoles that can approach the experience you will have playing those two games, and, frankly, you will find it hard playing anything else after you get drawn to them. I own a PS2, an XBox, a Cube and a high end pc and I haven't touched anything but the cube for the last three months. Forget what you hear (kiddie games, kiddie graphics), if you are a gamer, you have to have a cube - actually, you have to have an Xbox and a PS2, but the cube is a brilliant start...

I, too, managed to find the strength to open a proper book and learn that you don't really need pictures to have imagination, and that there actually exist more than 500 words in the English language. I never said they should be prohibited to kids. I think they are deserve a place in every kid's heart and they are a necessary step of growing up. They are fun, they do stimulate the imagination but they are not literature. What I was actually suggesting to the original poste was that, instead of regarding comic books as a way of taking children from in front of the TV parents should actually get them "proper" books. Comic books, they'll get them anyway, but proper books, they aren't "cool".
PS - I import, translate and sell comic books for a living, and the company I am involved with created the comic book market in the country I'm currently living in. I love them. But literature they ain't.

Comic books offer a serialised story, with no conclusion and their ONLY purpose is to interest the reader so that he buys the next comic. They are not "designed" to be educational. They are not "designed" to instil moral values.
Being a parent myself I try to stimulate my child's brain with more than comics. Like, with real books...
Windows has been available on Itanium for a couple of years now. Also, Windows 2k3 server for the AMD64 is in the same phase (alpha) as the Redhat offering.
Also, read the release notes for the Redhat thingie and see if it is possible to have a proper workstation on that thing. To be fair, though, Mandrake appear to have a more complete offer for AMD64 than Redhat.

I used democratic in the basic sense. I did not mean that if your president was a Democrat things would be different. Actually, as a European, I find the American two-party system laughable. There are no real basic differences between the Republican and the Democrats. It is all marketing. "We are progressive". "We protect values". "We are pro-life". "We are pro-choice". Offend no one, offer no solutions.
My work machine is a Mac OS X and I love it. Using it as the canon for Unix training however is plain wrong. I have 2 debian pcs, 1 mandrake and 1 netbsd. init 0 works in ALL the Unix boxes. I had never tried it on the Mac but using it daily I am not surprised. The *nix metaphore is so well hidden that I wouldn't doubt that even sudo shutdown wouldn't work. I will try that on Monday.

Google for xbmp / xbox media player. CD-Rs are a bit hit and miss but cdrw's / smb shares work perfectly.

On a sidenote, I own a PS2, an Xbox, a reasonably powerful gaming PC and a Cube. I have ONLY played Cube games in the past four months.
Halo is an average game compared to the "rehashed" Nintendo titles. Don't trust me on that, just play Metroid Prime. You'll thank me.
