What kind of backwards country do you live in? Delay on mobile phones? Never had any problem like that, anywhere! You are not supposed to drive and use a mobile phone because you have one less hand for driving and reacting in emergencies. Using a hands-free is legal everywhere.
Again you are wrong. They do not want to close their borders. On the contrary. They recently joined the WTO. That is not the behaviour of a market that is looking inward. You are so wrong regarding China it is actually quite tragic seeing you constantly spreading a simplistic analysis on/. and on your own blog. To summarise my point, please learn before trying to appear learned.
I am sorry but your understanding of macroeconomics is limited at best. China is growing at a rate of 7-12% a year and projections make it seem that until 2025 it will be the world's largest economy by far. If I may say so, if you want to have such a strong opinion on China (I remember you had another post I commented only yesterday and you also seem to go on about it on your blog) read a bit on it. I suggest the Economist's analysis here.
I am sorry to say your anti-Chinese rhetoric is absurdly naive, as it is. No offence.
Your ignorance is amazing. It is the fact that the dollar FOR THE TIME BEING is the world's main reserve currency is the only reason your country is not bankrupt. WHEN the Euro becomes the world's main reserve currency (somewhere between 2019 and 2024, check this week's Economist for a nice article), you will be so deep in debt your grand-grandsons will be working to pay it off.
If the situation were reversed and ICANN was a Chinese company, would you, an American, feel safe in the internet "being there" should a skirmish arise with the Chinese? There, your argument is not ironclad any more, is it? Also, I find it funny that you keep referring to the UN as a bureaucracy. Surely, in the USian utopian you live in such thing does not exist. I envy you.
I really like how you are insulting people who are disagreeing with your mindless bashing of a good game (you have not even seemed to have played, mind you), and the way you reply to reasonable comments saying that, inevitably, your vision will come true. Fact is, Guild Wars, at its current price point, is an immensely attractive game that doesn't require a monthly subscription. So, if in the future it changes from its "loss leader" statue (and the fact that you use loss leader means you have no idea what you are talking about), people will stop playing it. NOW people are enjoying it.
RE4 is an AMAZING game! I always hated the RE series and it took me about three months to convince myself to buy RE4 but I was really blown away by the game. I'm now at the part where you are basically shut off in a house with very, very limited ammo and "zombies" coming in through windows and I'm really amazed at the way the developers have managed to capture the Romero ambience. It is a truly magnificent game and enough of a reason to buy a Gamecube if you don't own one.
Please keep in mind the following when comparing American and European TVs:
1. Price. When someone from Europe quotes a price, it is ALWAYS inclusive of VAT (sales tax). Americans do not give inclusive prices.
2. Image quality. Arguably, PAL is better than NTSC (for reasons I will not go into right now). It has better resolution and that is something you, predictably, pay for.
3. Warranty. In Europe, you have a TWO YEAR warranty for any defects standard with any purchase. That, as far as I know, is optional in the US. Certainly, you can see how it drives costs up.
Also, a 32'' CRT for 900EUR means the guy bought a real top of the line model. You can get a decent 32'' for about 500-600.
I've owned a Generation 4, 40Gb ipod for about a year now. I must say, I treat it badly. I put it in my pocket, thrown it in my bag and I routinely run holding it in my (sweaty) hands. It shows some signs of wear but nothing amazingly different to what I would expect after a year of hard use.
Have you ever considered that the problem might not be with Hollywood or movie theatres but with your fellow citizens' basic inability to act in what would be considered a civilised manner?
You are, albeit semantically, wrong. Reporters report. It is journalist who actually "tell a story". This is extreme nitpicking but I thought it important enough to correct you.
I don't really know what is more pathetic. Your idiotic jokes and incessant "commentary" on every subject under the sun or the fact that you are consistently modded up by moderators that share your level of intelligence. Is this offtopic? You bet. I just wish I'd stop seeing your ID on every single story...
Well I don't know where Sony and Nintendo are going to lend more weight, so the only thing I can do is speculate. Just like you are doing.
I also don't know what percentage of the EU's gdp is devoted to "gaming" whatever that is, and neither do you. So again, you present your own view of the world as uniquely insightful whereas you have as much knowledge of it as everyone else here. So either present figures that give some weight to your apparently knowledgeable views or just accept you are ignorant of the international gaming marketing landscape. More likely than not, you are that.
The European Union has the same size economy as the US. Here you go.
It sure does not look "a drop in the bucket". You only prove your ignorance of both geo-political matters and economy when you make such sweeping assertions.

Most of "us" just pretend "we" are hackers on /. whereas "we" are really clueless. We just run programs real hackers have written.
China actually has a sizeable middle class. Not the size (in %) of western economies but it's getting there.

Are you aware there's more than a billion people living in China? That is one big market. Yes, they can afford to cut themselves off.
Well tell that to the "enemy combatants" in Guantanamo.

It doesn't "die". You have to buy it.

On "linux" it does no such thing.
The genious of your nick just hit me. Very nice.
I enjoy reading /. at -1. It's funnier that way.
This is just about the nicest thing anyone has ever told me!
He is in my foes list. And I am not going to leave just because an idiot is pissing me off.

The person I was replying to was talking about Europe. Kindly follow a discussion before replying to it.
