Guess we don't have to worry much about license plate readers if folks are willing to have a(nother)* GPS attached to them at all times. Do folks really not think about the alternate applications of such gadgetry before they welcome them with open arms ?

for all their problems and it's typically the previous generations fault.
I am really tired of hearing how hard the current generation has it, how this is unprecedented and how it's everyone elses fault.
As a solid Gen X type, I can assure you the " Silver Spoon " life you think existed for everyone but the Millennial generation is a laughable idea.
Growing up poor ( those rich Baby Boomers right ?:| ), my only route to decent job skills were with the military as college was something only the kids from wealthier* families could afford.
The opposite was also true. If you were REALLY poor, you could get much of your education for free via grants. I know of a few who went this route.
So, I ended up giving the military six years of my life. ( First half of the 90's, you can Google what the US military was doing during that period. Made for some interesting moments. )
The lesson here is I ended up with the skills I needed to land a job ( which turned into a career ) with a decent wage when I got out, though it took me about a year or two of oddball jobs before they started hiring. ( About eight years total post high school before I ended up with a decent paying job. )
You might have to do some things you don't want to for a while before things get better, but understand that every generation has their own unique challenges to overcome.
It's called reality and it is rarely fair. You should probably get used to it because this is how things really are vs what you may have experienced or been told in your childhood.
What you call a margin can also be called a bait and switch.
We're going to sell you this $35k car if you pre-order now, but when it comes time to actually buy the car, well. . . . . we don't have any of those available. But we DO have this nice $50k version if you're still interested. . . . .
The Federal Trade Commission tends to frown upon this little maneuver and if you promised / advertised a product at X price, then steer folks to a higher priced alternative, it's called false advertising.
It would surprise me NOT to see a lawsuit in the near future from the disgruntled folks who already pre-ordered but cannot get one at the promised price.
From a company who already has cash problems, I don't see where inviting litigation is going to help matters any.
While Cisco and others are warning the sky is about to fall, I didn't see in the article as to which vendor the routers / storage devices belong to. Nor any mention of how said malware got there in the first place.
Cisco ? Juniper ? What ?
Don't tell me the digital world is about to end, then leave off the details.:|
Mr. Musk might realize that the vast majority of folks aren't going to spend nearly $80k on a vehicle that does nothing but depreciate the instant you drive it off the lot. When his vehicles can financially compete with an ICE flavor, we'll talk about it. Until then, no.
Applying the typical 20/4/10 rule of thumb on an $80k car:
20% Down Payment: $16k Finance Length: $64k for four years @ ~3% = ~$1400 / month Gross Income Required for 10% rule: > $140,000 / year*
* > because I'm not taking interest and insurance amounts into account.
US Median Income 2015-2016: $57-59k. Relevant because his Model 3 is supposed to be the affordable model for the masses.
If he doesn't realize it sooner rather than later, his little car project may implode.
It's hilarious just how out of touch with reality the super rich really are . . . . . .:|
âoe That he lacks basic knowledge on a wide range of issues is simply a fact, and a very big problem considering his job. âoe
I have some bad news for you. The vast majority of our elected Presidents are all on par with intelligence and knowledge about the â wide range of issues â you speak of.
The only difference is some of them knew to keep their mouth shut until their â advisors â told them what to say.
Why the hell do you think pre-selected / screened questions are even a thing ?

Why the hell do you think pre-selected / screened questions are even a thing ?
You donâ(TM)t need to break encryption when we have the likes of the FBI and NSA doing everything they can to implement backdoors or subtley weakening the algorithms themselves.
Compromised software, active trojans and keyloggers, ISP level malware injection, etc means you canâ(TM)t trust anything network connected as it is.
When the day finally arrives, only the old school methods like the OTP via paper and pencil will remain secure.
Copyrights should be limited to the lifetime of the original creator ( individual, not corporation ). Extending those rights does nothing more than erode innovation because the motivation isn't there to create new content.
OR
Maybe we should start increasing the tax rate on money made from said copyrights at static intervals. Normal tax rate during the first twenty years, 2x for the next twenty. 3x for next twenty, then 4x, 5x, etc. At some point continuing to milk that idea would become pointless and would guarantee its release into the public domain.
The ONLY reason this is getting so much attention is due to the fact that everyone, INCLUDING all of our self-proclaimed important Congress critters, can be tracked just about anywhere they go without their knowledge.
Nothing pisses off the Royalty more-so than being treated just like the peasants.
You want to promote your darling as the next evolutionary step that will replace all existing automobiles. You're especially proud of your " autonomous driving " feature. This accident is news because Tesla supposedly rolled out a safety update that enabled automatic emergency braking but appears to have been limited to vehicles operating under 50mph. ( Whoops, guess we should have upped that a bit )
See, when you promote your vehicle with said safety features and it still ends up crashing just like the " dumb " cars out there, it doesn't shine a positive light on your over-hyped / over-priced* product. ( *Compared to the typical ICE vehicle )
Moral of the story: When in the spotlight, you don't get to pick and choose what people see.
" based on false identification or bad backend database data "
Trust me when I say they don't need such things to open fire on your vehicle. You need only drive something that vaguely resembles a vehicle they're looking for and they'll stand on the brake, jump out and go full death squad on your ass.
As many of you will hold up the bullshit signs and demand citations, I will have you recall the story of Christopher Dorner where LAPD went full stupid on several civilians for merely driving a vehicle that looked similar.
" In two separate incidents during the manhunt, police shot at three civilians unrelated to Dorner, mistaking their pickup trucks for the vehicle being driven by Dorner. One of the civilians was hit by the police gunfire, another was wounded by shattered glass, and a third individual was injured when police rammed his vehicle and opened fire. "
According to California, EVERYTHING causes cancer. We should just stick a label on everything to make sure we cover all our bases.
Warning: Most of California's leadership / residents are complete idiots and, when they move to other States, have a tendency to bring their own special brand of stupidity with them. Which, they then demand that their new home city adopt the same stupid rules, regulations and ideals that caused them to move away from California in the first place.
Personally, I think California causes cancer:|
I can only hope they eventually follow through on their secession threat so we can wall off that side of the country and keep them there.
when your Corporate name is being dragged through the mud, the Litigation Monster makes an appearance, your share-holders are getting out the torches and pitch forks and management is frantically looking through the list to see which Junior Developer they can pin the blame on for the ' bug ' in the code.
THAT is the only time companies take security seriously because, let's be honest, there are otherwise no consequences for being the Corporate equivalent of an incompetent fuck up. A slap on the wrist, a mediocre fine, maybe a name change and it's back to business as usual.
Once upon a time, a brand name MEANT something. $brand could command a higher price tag because $brand was synonymous with a quality product.
Those days are long gone.
Thus the era of Incompetence has arrived. Where some decent Q/A or even realistic Beta Testing may have caught your problem long before it became that giant Iceberg you're sailing into.
Treat every interaction as if someone is watching, listening or recording at all times. This goes for everything you buy, write, speak, read, watch or listen to regardless of the medium.
Ignore the fact that you think you're doing nothing wrong because what you think, doesn't matter.
Today you may not be doing anything wrong, tomorrow the rules may change.
I have a Synology NAS loaded with Western Digital Red drives configured in a Raid 10 array.
First drive failure happened a few days ago with an unimpressive 385 hours on it. Drives normally run around 88f temp wise.
Considering the MTBF is supposed to be around 1,000,000 hours I am less than impressed with its lifespan. Glad I don't have their 10TB models installed as the cost to replace one is triple.
So, take any claims of how reliable it is with a grain of salt because while Unit X may outlast the universe, Unit Y may keel over tomorrow.
I really don't see how someone can invent a new widget, or a process, or a sprocket these days without running afoul of someone else's " idea ". Hundreds of millions of people all coming up with " ideas " over the years eventually means there is a limit to the number of original ideas that are out there. Because, no matter the method to get there, if the end result is too similar to someone else's result, you're pretty much a litigation target.
Those who haven't come up with the idea already will have to tip-toe through the Minefield of Lawyers in the hopes their idea isn't covered by some obscure patent, trademark or registration by some guy named Bob who claims to have invented the internet in 1952:|
What that really turns into is the over saturation / pollution of the available WI-FI spectrum. Trying to find an open channel while they keep installing their " hot spots " is nigh impossible. ( Nor do they understand that simply cranking the transmitter to maximum doth not make a better WI-FI experience )
I wonder how much they would charge as an " installation fee " for you to bump that speed up by one tier.
You would also probably have to fight them tooth and nail NOT to include one of their shitty router / modem combos so they can charge you an extra $10 / month for that POS.
"Comcast Won't Give New Speed Boost To Internet Users Who Don't Buy TV Service "
I bet if Google or AT&T or $competition showed up with Fiber, Comcast couldn't bump those speeds up fast enough. TV bundles wouldn't even be a consideration.
It would be all about emergency customer retaining in the face of competition.
SBC bought AT&T and elected to use the AT&T name as it is globally known.
SBC also bought Pac-Bell and Bell South and recently ( past few years ) sold off SNET.
What needs to happen now is they need to get rid of the old guard mgmt types making poor decisions that were absorbed during the mergers.
Personally, at a minimum, we need more than one choice in everything. Electric provider, wireless, internet, etc.
In fact, the more the merrier.
I love how this is only an issue when the folks in charge are being spied upon by the very tech they're using to spy on the rest of us :|
Though, to be honest, it's a good thing.
Perhaps we'll see some changes as to how the phones determine what towers they will / will not connect with vs blindly connecting to any of them.

Assuming you're not allergic to much of the crap that Nature fills the air with in Spring and Fall. ( Pollens and Molds respectively )
There is nothing wonderful about being congested or suffering from chronic rhinitis from that amazing outdoor air.
To take it a step further, we won't even bring up all the man-made pollutants.
Breathing the outdoor air brings an awful lot of misery for many folks. Thus, I can't blame them for shunning the outdoors.
Would you go outside if it made you fucking miserable ?

As long as theyâ(TM)re ok with diminished buying power due to working less hours, there wonâ(TM)t be any issues.
But we all know this likely wonâ(TM)t be the case. Thatâ(TM)s where the problems will start.
