And then you decided to close off with a nice, unnecessarily dickish comment.
Funny thing, I didn't make any comment regarding the "typical" Slashdot reader. I used the term "any". Are so naive to believe that people who do this would never patronize this site?
Maybe you should read a little more carefully before you accuse someone of being dickish? Maybe grammar isn't your thing? Maybe you shouldn't be so damn sensitive?
At our company the policy is to destroy all drives withdrawn from operations. The problem is with our local IT support telling management they've destroyed the drive but then selling them for their own personal gain. They're already stealing property so I doubt that they're much concerned about proprietary/sensitive data.
We had a similar problem several years back when we switched 1,000+ CRT monitors to LCDs. The CRTs weren't the issue, no one wanted them, rather it was the DVI cables. The techs used the old VGA cables and sold the DVI cables on EBAY for $5 bucks a piece.
Of course this is something no reader of SlashDot would ever condone... Right...
It's not even accurate according to the bible, the only reason Christ wants you to accept him is so he can teach you to be happy and good. He doesn't actually ever say "accept me" he says "follow me."
In Jesus own words.
"He who believes in me shall not perish but have everlasting life"
You are wrong... The price of Google's stock is the market's determination of the value of Google's equity. Period. Google's value is exactly $1 per share or $1 billion per share only because that's the only price the market will accept. As information and expectations change, so will the value of Google's Equity. What you're talking about is speculation, estimating future value. Speculators make these bets all the time and are wrong more often then not, whether that be an hour, a day or ten years from now.
You can say the value of an apple is $10, but if you can only sell it for $5, then you have a $5 apple. You may even hold onto it in the hopes you can some day sell it for $10, but that's mere speculation.
If by "fundie" you mean a Christian who believes in the fundamentals of Christianity, well I guess that's me. And I guess I would call anyone who does not believe the fundamentals of Christianity a non Christian. The bible's teachings are very clear and us fundies have always believed it is the word God.
So, you non non-fundies/non-Christians find parts of Jesus teachings to be incompatible with your modern lifestyle and choose to ignore these parts... Well that's all fine, and in the end we'll find out who's right. But in the mean time the least you can do is respect those of us who consider scripture holy and God's word.
BTW, there are many of us fundies, tens of millions in the US alone. You just won't find many of us on slashdot because the environment is just plain hostile. Take for instance the many many hate postings I will recieve in response to this message.
Well I love you all and I wish you would all pick up a bible and actually read it. I suggest you start with the Gospel of John. I will pray that you all come to know Christ like I do, as your savior, redeemer, and mediator to God the Father.
Interesting I work at Lockheed Martin and we cross hire with our competition continuosly. We do sign a non disclosure agreement, but that simply states that I will not reveal proprietary information ever, there is no sunset to this obligation.
Maybe you were just making up an example, but in such cases you should use fictitous companys.

I know exactly how AOL will be making enormous gobs of money in ten years. They'll have most of the first-world by the throat, in total depedence on AOL Magic for their day-to-day needs related to the flow of information. Search, email, blogs, photos, video, mapping, satellite data, filtering, secure remote storage, etc. Just as the first-world has become entrenched in web culture and dependent on it, they will become entrenched in Google culture and come to depend on it as well. They're taking a pragmatic peicemeal approach to the age-old plan of replacing your operating system with something in a browser - what Mosaic had hoped for so long ago (and fittingly, Netscape will help AOL too). Eventually whatevfer your home computing device is (PC, game console, media center, or some hybrid thereof), all that will matter is that it has a fast net connection to AOL, and while the large content may come from varying places, the small content, the metadata, and the glue that links it all together will come from AOL.
If you don't know how something happened, why is a common course of action to give credit to a god for something good happening, when it would be far easier and simpler to just admit you don't know.
Sure, you probably think its better that if you don't know how something happened, you just explain it by saying there was a big bang and the universe just existed, or that something which is mathematically impossible, like proteins randomly forming and mutating into humans, must have occured, because yeah, that's so much more logical... Why can't scientists just admit when they don't know, or admit their's is a theory just as likely or unlikely as ours.
But someday, we will all find out who's right. Good for me bad for you if I'm right. Bad for us both if you are!
I have two canon printers, the i850 for normal usage and the canon picture mate which I use for photo printing. Canon's proprietary ink, durabrite is far superior to anything you'll find to refill your cartridges, it's water resistant and won't fade in direct sunlight for 100 years. So I stick with Canon cartridges in the picture mate, which is fine because it comes with a 100 pack of printer paper. In the i850, I don't care about fading after a couple years or water resistance so I bought a refill kit at Costco for $12. After drilling a tiny hole in each tank, refilling is a breeze. I have refilled each color at least 3 times and I still have 3/4's of the ink left. I'm guessing I've already saved $100 and will save $400 by the time I have to buy a new kit. There is no difference in the print quality, the print heads are designed to last for the life of the printer.
(I'm not smart enough to come up with a clever sig, so shove off!)
You actually see those signs because that particular road was not made to sustain those weights. Your typical road or highway however is designed to withstand the pressures of much much larger vehicles (dump trucks, 18 wheelers...) and will not be measurably more worn nor torn by an SUV.
Funny you asked. I toured the NASA facility at Michoud TWO DAYS ago where they build the main fuel tanks. The fuel used buy the shuttles main engines is liquified oxygen and liquified hydrogen. At full burn the main engines use over 1600 gallons a second. Although this sounds impressive, the overwhehlming majority of the thrust is provided by the solid fuel rockets strapped on either side. The shuttle's main engines are used primarily to keep the whole craft pointed in the right direction and nudge the vehicle into the appropiate orbit. So why not just strap a few more solid feul rockets onto the shuttle?? Simply not possible, but even if we thought we could figure it out, who's going to sit in that shuttle the first time it goes up, NOT ME!!
Additionaly it is safe to say that Conservatives do not trust the mass media and properly view exit pollsters as extensions of the media. I'm curious to see the politacal bent of those that declined to be interviewed. This would be easy to determine as more conservative precincts would have a large % of declines.
I couldn't find the article, but about a year ago, I read that many measures of ground or near ground temperatures are increasing due to the proliferation of roads, parking lots, and roof tops. There is little way to isolate this effect from orbiting sensors and there is no incentive for environmentalists to point out this fact. Think about it though, what effect on ground temperatures does a parking lot the size of NYC have on these measurments; or how about the roof tops of the 200 million buildings in the US?

These were not Embryonic Stem cells, which Bush is against for Moral reasons, these stem cells come from adult bone marrow. To date there are no observable differenciation in application between the two types of Stem Cells.
Bush's objection is not on scitentific research, it's on the destruction of unborn embrios needed to harest stem cells. People need to get a grip on this issue. For Christians and many others, the unborn are just as sacred as a newborn, this is a religious belief and whether you agree or disagree you should respect it.
This isn't off topic, I atleast left a link 400 other sources on this topic!!! I can maybe understand moding to zero, but to -1.
You Moderators a bunch of Slash Dot Fascists!!!
"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" (James 2:14)
This is correctly interpreted as stating that true faith is evidenced by work. Someone can say they have faith, but we can doubt the truth of that faith if there are no good works present.
Caltholics like to bring this verse up a lot, but if you read, say the gospels and the epistles in their entirety, the same themem is reapeted with out end. "Whoever believes...", This notion of good works as being required of salvation is perposterious, good works are merely a biproduct.

This eerily sounds like the beginnings of the "San Sebastian Line".
Mind your own fucking businsess.
And BTW, he's already been elected twice. He CAN'T run again.

No, read the article again. It's 120 Watts per square inch. A typical laptop requiring 360Watts of power would only need a 3 square inch panel.

But Al Gore would ratify it..

Just got it from a press release on the AT&T website
This is 2 days old... Google News already has 402 Stories about this. Yawn...
