Yes the results are mixed. But the Drupal project got a webchick (really, that's her nick!) from the 2005 SoC and since then we hope that every SoC will have someone like her (hardly possible, but let's hope).

Dear Guild, Thanks for going to court against a 87B mark.cap. company. The only possible outcome is that Google will turn to the lawmakers to change the (C) law to read something that fits more the 21th century than the Berne convention from the 19th. RIAA and MPAA will not say thanks when the law that supports them suddenly disappears, you know.

I am a geek, I program PHP for a living 12+ hours a day, I have used Linux on my servers since 0.99pl15. Access/tweak/control every last flippin' setting? No. I am running Kubuntu and I have no wish to set anything at all. The OS for me is something that makes my machine tick and I can not care less. I bought a scanner the other day, I plugged it in, started kooka, pressed OK when it told me that I have this scanner and scanned away. No "Found new hardware wizard" not even small windows in the middle of my desktop. That's the way it should be.

It's easy: if you like the music you've downloaded, write a nice letter to the band, put it in an envelope along with a five dollar (or five euro, you get the picture) bill. I've funded the first CD of a small band. It cost us around 350 HUF per disk, but when it reached the stores it was at least 2000 HUF, and this is in-country. International hit CDs sell here for ~5000HUF. Average wage is 100 000 HUF. And Hungary is not a particularly poor country -- we are just about to join the EU. Could someone please tell how on the Earth could I sell this band's song in the USA without global digital delivery? How could I benefit the authors of songs that I've downloaded but the CDs are not available any longer anywhere? Time to ditch Berne convention and start again.

  21. Fraud -- possible solutions on Restrictive Sales Practices on the Web? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I am Hungarian and a frequent webshopper. Some company have asked me to send an email with the scan of the credit card itslef. If you do not hold the physical card, only a stolen number, it's indeed hard to do... Someone else asked for a copy of a bank statement which has the card number and holder name on it. And so on. If a company _wants_ do business, it will. There are solutions. Yes, they are a bit inconvenient, but as a customer I can understand the sellers' concerns about fraud and I'm happy to cooperate.
