This is great! I forgot my password 6 months ago and I can't get anybody to reset it for me - I'll bet these guys have recovered it - woo hoo I can play chess again
Been a little frustrated by the state of American politics. On a trip the last week I took along Thoreau's Civil Disobedience. America could use a good dose of Thoreau right now.
In particular I recall something to the effect of... The government exists to serve the people not the people to serve the government.
it's annoying enough that people talk loudly on their cell phones in resaurants etc.. can you imagine a flight with 200 people all talking on cell phones?
the horror the horror the horror
they will have to have cell phone sections on the plane. cell phones will be this generations cigarettes.
but i have to think that all of these governments could care less what microsoft does - they just see an opportunty to have their piece of the cash cow.
I know what you mean. I've seen source code all over the internet and they never seem to do anything about it. The folks at debian ought to call the FBI - they're being robbed blind!
Has to be one of the first networked games with graphics and is still being played today. Feels more like a pinball machine than modern video games (which is a good thing).
i spent many hours making a spiderman theme for kde (1.0ish I would guess) - seems like years ago. I guess it was. Wish I could find my screenshot of that:^)
Interesting - I've been using a Lamy safari for a while and in the interest of answering the ink question I live close to http://www.fahrneyspens.com/ this place. Usually use the waterman ink...
Been thinking of moving to a higher quality pen... Nice to hear about the Pelikan - ever try the Namiki's?
i think the real key is the statement that the 'vast majority' of research can be performed without astronauts. is this really true? i don't know the answer to that but i'm certainly not convinced based on the article. maybe the author should have said the vast majority of fundamental solidification experiments could be carried out without an astronaut.
i worked with a group that does zero gravity combustions experiments in space. the astronaut was an integral part of the test - could not have been done with out them. The rig was smaller than a shoebox. adding stepper motors as valve control, a camera etc. would have doubled the size - does this mean more expensive and fewer experients (and certainly longer experiment design cycles - e.g. slower and more expensive research). all the connections would have to be made on the ground and survive a launch perfectly without a leak - which is a big deal with combustables i would guess.
Fit it with a hearing and the ability to make human sounds to see if it can learn to speak. I wonder what it would say? Doubt it would be to gratefull...
The differences for most of those benchmarks were pretty uninspiring 'cept for when the athlon beat everything.
most of the benchmarks were within a percentage point in terms of performance.
though lately i've been dreaming of a quieter machine - the mobile is looking pretty good for that.
Think this is the point of the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound systems. Friend of mine has this system - it's very very nice.

These old codgers don't get enough credit

i would agree that apple got the ideas from xerox but would have to say that windows got 'their' ideas from apple.
i didn't see the xerox OS - did it have a trash can?

then again maybe i live in DC
this is the real reason that everybody secretly yearns to program in FORTRAN
4.321**2 instead of pow(4.321,2)
I feel the same way about motor oil. That's why I only drink it occasionally

Remember themes.org?
I can't even keep electricity that long.
Is there commercial software that's comparable to what you want? (e.g. chemcad)
Just trying to get a better idea of what you're looking for...
Thanks for the info banks
I've been thinking of the vanishing point but will give the Pelikans a try next time I'm in the store.

We could build a pyramid at that rate

That's a pretty weak parody. I wonder what the legal standard for parody is? I guess parody quality doesn't come into it.
