    you can carry your shotgun in public/in the street, provided it is unloaded in a securely locked case and you have you license on you. But concealment is different: i was advised by the police to carry the gun in a hockey stick bag so as not to attract attention.

    okay, but if no UK network allows emergency calls on their network if no other signal available, then what does the phone mean by this? I don't think it is specifically the army, but government/emergency services do have a GSM-like network

    occasionly in the uk the words '999 calls only' will appear on the mobile phone screen, usually in more remote areas. This is because the phone is picking up the more extensive army network. The army allows it's network to be used for emergency calls. So there is actually 6 mobile phone networks in the UK.

    umm, hang on a minuite, england conquered wales in 1200something, england never managed to conquer scotland, it was only at the act of union in 1603 was scotland and england joined. Ireland was an overseas dominion until 1921 when southern ireland (eire) gained it's independence and Britain kept Ulster, or northern ireland. The United Kingdom (at present) is England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, The Channel Islands, The Isle of Man and Fife.

    Wot ho, Sturmey-Archer! I had a hub-geared one in the 80's, are they still made? I think the main problem with them is that they were hell to adjust, and the little chain in the middle that changed gear always came loose.

    err....it would have been a major twin-towers scale disaster, London was one of the biggest cities in the world at that stage, and westminster palace was almost at the centre.

    surely pagers are outclassed? Is there anything a pager can do that SMS can't? Also, before mobiles became popular (UK) there were email-to-pager gateways and i've used an SMS-to-pager one as well.

    Old Motos (monte carlo???) had water sensors in them - trying to make a phone call in the pouring rain, then it beeps and comes up with a message saying "Too Wet to Work", then promptly turns off. I thought this was a bit strange, so looked through the manual, and sure enough it claimed it had a water sensor...

    no, 12 bit is best for the BRITISH patriot. Bring back the good old imperial measurements...It's only the EU making us use the french system.
