I believe this is an outgrowth of the informational society we live in. Programs keep popping up doing things that were not even thought of earlier. 10 years the only CRM was "keep the customer happy", now there are complex mathematical models for such interactions. Everything is now tracked in huge databases and it all goes back to the central idea that information is power.
Whenever somebody posts the content then the article is available. However when there is no "mirror", then the site is not available, is this bad luck or just a natural consequence of having the mirror?
Do we really need more speed right now, or storage? I think the hardware needs to slowdown a bit so bigger programs can be created to use this. Remember that hard drives can be put in RAID arrays to increase speed too.
I hate to say it, but you have a point with communism, there is no incentive. However I believe that the core group of open source developers have incentive, and that beating Microsoft. It's like a small idealistic group standing up against a huge goliath of a company.
What I think, is the open source community needs to work more on marketing, documentation, and support. I believe that's the area that is lacking the most. Probably one of the best ways to education people on linux and open source is to get it in the schools. Kids usually tech their parents how to use computers.
This seems like a ploy to legitimize spam. I see this as actually increasing the amount, not decreasing it. The only people that will likely benefits are the advertisers that use this Lumos thing to get their email on a "approve" list. Much like the NAT sensors in a recent slashdot article, this will just make the spammers change their methods, if it even takes off in the first place. Although this plan seems at least to me that it is ill fated, something needs to be done about spam. Like censorship though it's probably best left to the end consumer and not some blind upstream connectivity provider.
Does anybody else feel that it seems time just keeps going by faster? Everything seems like it just happened, when in reality the event happened much earlier. The reverse is also sometimes true, for instance I didn't use a computer until 1992 but it now seems forever. These "time anomalies" seem to be increasing in frequency, at least for me. Although maybe I just need more sleep.
The whole idea of the Internet is a network of networks. Things like this along with certain large ISPs blocking any email from whole blocks of networks without reason leads me to wonder how open the Internet really is, and how closed it could become. ISPs should be selling network connectivity, without restricting what use that connectivity has. I have the same feeling with business phone lines. Businesses are charged more just for being a business, they may use the phone more, but not necessarily.
I can understand if they are giving personal information, but parents should be watching their kids and not letting them go write whatever tehy want on the Internet. People should be watching for real problem makers on the world wide web.
Yes I would consider having the latest news dated at August 12, 2001. No Mac section, and what looks like a more up to date Amiga section. I sure hope their games are better then their website content.
The Midnight Racer game looks good. Are there any tentative pricing information or timeframes though?
Really the only problem, and its not really is a problem is the filters need to be clean often, but only because the internals are being cleaned so well by the biodiesel.

This is why the only mobile device I would use is a cell phone or laptop. I had a PDA and it was always a pain to use, so I didn't use it.
Hmmm also a good thing to do while waiting for the next job.

An open-source space sim? Now that looks interesting...
With the current numbering system probably more like MSDOS 2004...

Now this seems to make more sense then what they are planning on doing. Too bad the spammers have more spare change for lobbyists.
Like the idea about family outings though...

Could you just hear the NASA people say, "darn knew we forgot something..."

I've never heard it described that way, but it makes me wonder why I didn't go into marketing!

I believe the success of such an operation is largly determined by the skill of the doctor, some are just newbies.

The question though should be if that would be a bad thing or a good thing?
