I live in New Orleans....there is NEVER dust on any beer, wine or liquor bottles at the grocery stores here....the product is in heavy demand, and has constant turn over.
I wonder where it is that the previous poster lives, that has beers that sit on the shelves so long they go 'skunky'?
I used to be really anal when I first started homebrewing, about sanitizing EVERYTHING....
As I got to doing it more and more, I found that you just have to be clean...I have a bucket for sanitizing solution...and things that are gonna touch the wort go in there...etc.
But things like doing all grain...some times I'd not remember to 'sanitize' my coiled wort chiller...but I figured hey, it's going into a boiling liquid, so, that will sanitize it.
I don't think you have to worrry that much till the wort starts to come down in temperature, at which point, you start to be more careful....
But I'm reading on here people home brewing, seeming to sanitize, bleach, wash, sanitize some more...etc.
You don't have to be anal about it....just common sense, and you'll be fine.
I've never had an infected batch yet...[knocks wood].
it turned out there are still countries with cars where the headlights do not always turn on whenever the engine is running.
Err...like in the US?
:-)
I've only had one car in the US that had auto on headlights, and that was my '97 Corvette. I've not had a car since then that turns the headlights on automatically, and my present car is a 2005.
I don't think the headlight one with engine thing is a requirement by law or regulation....just something some car companies put on some models.
You realize that pedestrians and bicycles are prohibited on most (if not all) US Highways? (and I mean the real ones, like I-75 - not "highways" by name)
Now...if only we could get them off all the OTHER roads that cars and other motorized vehicles need to run on...I hate getting stuck behind a bicyclist on a road.
I just don't feel that it is safe and prudent to mix non-motorized vehicles with motorized ones any longer. If there is a bike lane, ok, but regular roads, the speed disparity is just too great and makes it dangerous.
I mean, if I bike can't easily maintain even minimum limits on city streets (35mph), then they don't need to be there.
And lets face it...NO ONE drives that slow realistically.
ESL. English-as-a-Second-Language. English is exactly what is being taught.
Your racism is showing.
Until you post, I'd never heard of the TLA of ESL, thank you for the definition.
But what racism? I'm saying that the US, at least until recent couple decades, used to be the great 'melting pot'. People came here legally.....and melded into one great American culture.
You can't blend into the culture if you don't speak the main language here, American English.
The quickest way to learn...is to have people in schools speak it to you all day till you get it.
What I'm saying is that segregation, regardless of reason, is evil.
Why?
People tend to naturally segregate into similar blocks of people...usually along racial and financial lines. That seems to be human nature.
What is inherently evil about that?
It is evil for black people to generally migrate to go to mostly black churches? It is evil for, as some have said, for oriential people to make up the majority of people in Chinatown? What about the various editions of "Little Italy" we've seen over the years in larger cities?
What is so bad about it?
Again..it isn't just race/color.
Look to see how black families, that succeed in life, get some education....make some money, they move out of the ghetto, and into nicer neighborhoods to stay safer, and provide a better environment for their kids to grow up in...and succeed.
That's just nature. Do you think it is better to force peoples to all live mixed together...to the detriment of many that would do better than being taught to the lowest common denominator? To be forced to live in higher crime areas when they could afford better?
"During your evaluation period you were not good. Here is how we can help you be better. If you can't show improvement in x number of weeks, we will start the termination process."
Hmm...I've always lived and worked in right to work states.
Why should teachers get all this warning and documentation...when so many of us normal workers do not?
I could be let go in the next 10 min...without any reason given.
Friend of mine worked in public education in Dallas. Was a great teacher, repeated teacher of the month and a couple teacher of the year ratings by the district, ESL certified, the works - but they were under the gun to hire more "native spanish speaking ESL teachers."
Err...why are they wanting to hire more spanish speaking teachers?!?!
Should not the emphasis be on teaching the pupils English?!?!?
I'm pretty sure Dallas doesn't have a shortage of Spanish speaking students....when I took Spanish, we basically only spoke English the first day, after that, was total immersion...you learned to speak Spanish rather quickly.
Why are we not doing that in our public schools, ESPECIALLY in the higher Latino population areas???
As a parent of two small children, I've been forced to do "segmented sleep" for extended periods (our babies were not good eaters so we had to wake them up in the middle of the night for a feeding). It sucks, and I'm positive that I'm not the only parent to have experienced this.
Can't your wife take care of this and let you sleep?
You know...I think most people just don't know...and many people are like me in that, well...they just plain don't care.
I figure if they didn't have these jobs, conditions would be even worse there. It isn't our fault they or their govt tolerate bad human working conditions....they do that in order to be able to do this work, otherwise, the cost would go up, and some of that work might come back to the US.
So, no..I don't really care...it is their choice, and I get the benefits from it.
If getting China up to better standards, means manufacturing jobs come back over here, when then...I'll show some interest in this. But for now...they make their own bed.
No one holds a gun to China's collective head to force them to allow this....
Let's not forget to give the unions credit for ending the abusives labor practices of the last century.
They did do great things, but their time has passed.
They are more of a hindrance to the worker than help these days...and often part of the reason we've lost much of our manufacturing work out of the US...they are unreasonable in what they demand.
Hmm...why don't we just take the hit from one of the old James Bond movies, was it "You Only Live Twice"?
The one where the rogue rocket would come up behind the space capsule, and the nose would open up and 'swallow' the target space ship, the close up and come back to earth.
We've known about this tech for decades now...easy peasy!!!
My thoughts on reading this were "Duh"!! I mean, who wants to look at a fat guy's junk, that is 98% hidden anyway by his beer guy...when you can look at some hot chick under her clothes?
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out....next obvious case study please!!

Hey, you gotta get your car home...especially if the next day is a work day.

Lemme "ax" you something about that......
Those are already out there, they go by MANY fine brands...Glock, Beretta, Smith&Wesson....etc.
Just put in mouth, pull delivery device (trigger) and your assisted suicide is quick and simple.
Oh...you may need, depending on your model, to make sure that the safety is off, if it has a safety.
Can't your wife take care of this and let you sleep?
I dare say they'd be a bit miffed by having to implement one.
Man...glad I was here to see the wild west days of it back in '92-'93 and just after that.
Then again, I remember going to the gates at airports to greet people as they got off the plane, and even before metal detectors going to the gates.
Sigh...the US use to be a much more free place.
Perhaps we should have this dept dissolved.
At the very least, can we start a movement to find constitutional justification for such a Federal Agency?
I figure if they didn't have these jobs, conditions would be even worse there. It isn't our fault they or their govt tolerate bad human working conditions....they do that in order to be able to do this work, otherwise, the cost would go up, and some of that work might come back to the US.

I'm not on facebook for a number of reasons, I certainly don't need my computer to made more readily available to to such privacy black holes.
I do hope it is all opt in, or at the very least, easy to disable 100%.
I still tend to like to use my computer for computer stuff....AV editing, some coding...etc.
No...late night, typing on a rooted nook color....for some reason it is very easy to get a lot of periods while typing on that thing....
They did do great things, but their time has passed.

Do they do GM.crops.other than.corn really?.isn't.that their.main cash crop?
Isn't this the.price they pay for.taking these.jobs.from us where it used to be done for a.living wage and fair.working conditions?
No, they do not. I negotiate my bill rate on all my contracts. I know what I'm worth, what I need to make a good living and save money back.
Not everyone is a sheep....I know my worth, and won't work for less than that....
