I'm a bit puzzled why Beck catches so much crap lately. I'm not an avid follower, but I've watched him back when he was on CNN Headline News....and some on Fox.
I gotta say...he seems to hit many things on the head, or at the very least, brings up some very interesting questions that really should be asked, both during the Bush administration, and the current Obama one.
Sure, the goofy crying stuff...that's lame, but I do listen to some things he says, and it does prompt serious thought in my head on what's going down and where our nation is heading.
I'm not affiliated with any party...I think the RepubloCrats are pretty much the same corporate owned entities that use different divisive issues to split the crowd their way. The Tea Party people? Well, the basic grassroots ideas they have about moving our government back to a more constitutionally strict form, I'm all for that. Sure, they have some fringe nuts out there too trying to join in, but I like some of the general ideas they have, like getting our government to act more in line with the enumerated powers they are granted in the constitution.
It seems that anyone outside the formal Dem or Rep...is out to catch a world of hate these days, easily seen on/. like any other media, but really....isn't it about time to at least talk about where we want the US to go outside of those in power inside the Beltway?
Why isn't the mainstream media as suspicious and questioning of whomever is in office..as they seemed to do in the past? These days...very few people out there in the media do anything but seemingly recite off the press sheets the whitehouse or congressional offices give them.
At least with Beck...well, he points fingers and asks some questions that really merit some thought.
"Which is being purchased by Apache Energy, and Apache is buying some BP assets [apachecorp.com]. Bang, BP's involvement now established for the purposes of conspiracy propagation."
Very interesting.
Now...for $50, can you now connect this chain somehow to Kevin Bacon?
Hmm..does the new version require spinner hubcabs, and 3x subs so you can annoy your neighbors with the thump, thump, thump of the bass droning on and on and on...
"Some of us aren't trying to set a record for wasteful consumption."
I'm not "trying" to do anything...just isn't something I'd have given much of a 2nd thought to as being any type of issue. Some of my boxes at home are servers I use (personal)...some of them are MythTV boxes...etc.
And the rest..well, just never thought about turning them off...that way whenever I'm home, I can use one no matter what room of the house I'm in without having to wait to boot, etc...
"Not unless you want a very large power bill. Sure, tech-obsessed geeks don't care, but most people do."
Compared to the amount of my power bill my AC runs up during the summer....computers on 24/7 don't even make a dent.
Seriously...how much can an avg 2-4 computers on all the time run you? I don't know anyone out of my friend set that has such a money bind that they could even notice this on the power bill.
"The problem then is that you have you have to have your computer turned on and have iTunes running. Not a huge inconvenience, in the grand scheme of things, but if I'm downstairs and decide I want to watch something, I then have to run upstairs and turn everything on, log on, start up iTunes and then go back down again."
You don't just leave all of your computers in your house turned on 24/7??
I thought pretty much everyone did that these days...honestly.
"in this day and age, why would you even print anything?"
Oh, I print off TONS of stuff still, especially at work.
While I do do a lot online, for things I reference a lot, or need to thoroughly read, I often print it to dead tree form. That way I can make it with my notes, etc.
Actually it really works for me memorizing things better that way too. When studying in college...during tests, I could often close my eyes, and see in my head the pages of my notes or books and the doodles and notations I had in the margins, and find my answers. I just can't do that on digital copies.
Sure, I use pure digital..but I still print off important things quite often.
"probably many americans would have rated the indian work situation as being above china's, in pretty much every way. both places are frequent outsourcing locations, with china being much cheaper (still) but having the negative of the obvious language barrier"
Are you kidding?
For the most part...you cannot understand most Indians (dot, not feather)..especially over the phone. The accent is so thick, that the English they are trying to speak is often difficult to understand.
While I *do* appreciate the effort, it is so frustrating to not to be able to understand a fucking word they say, especially when you're trying to get support.
"I think you must have a very sad life if you think the only two things a girlfriend/wife can do is nag or have sex with you."
Well, I don't keep'em around long enough to bother me with the nagging, etc...
I dunno what else really a girlfriend is for...someone to run around with, boink...etc. But if she stops being fun, well, there are plenty more of them out there.
If you're talking about friendship...I've got PLENTY of friends for that.
You tell me...what else are girlfriends good for, what am I missing? So far...life it quite fun!
I am a bit different...in that I do NOT want kids. And IMHO...unless you are going to have kids and raise them, there is NO reason to get married. Why risk losing half my stuff, eh?
Well, while the MIC wasn't anything I was referring to in my original post...I would like to note that a LOT of Americans make a livindg doing work associated with the DoD.
Hell, much of that work is about the ONLY work that you can be assured of not being outsources overseas...and can only be done by US citizens.
My point was..for men..if the VR was good enough to feel real...and come without the problems that real women give men....the VR might generally supplant REAL women...
All the physical needs met...who needs a real one that nags you in between laying you?
"So you see, you are making the classic mistake many geeks make, in thinking that females are logical creatures..THEY ARE NOT."
And, IMHO..you are making the classic mistake that TOO many men these days are doing....and taking crap and being too submissive to their women. I've heard it called part of the 'pussification of America'.
While I'm not saying being a tyrant, if you are married to them, sure you have to compromise a bit here and there to let them think they 'win' (you compromise on stuff you don't really care about). But in general, the "Golden Rule" should apply...whoever brings in the most gold, makes the rules. If you woman out earns you, well...that's another thread.
But seriously, you should be the master in your own house. If she doesn't like it, well...there are plenty of them out there you can swap out for her. Just be careful with the marriage thing...it can get expensive.
"How would you feel if your girlfriend told you robot dick feels better than yours?"
I've yet to meet a woman out there in the real world....that doesn't yet know what a vibrator is, and generally most own more than ONE of them.
I've learned some good tricks and skills over the years, but NO MAN can make his dick do what some of these things do, and if they can, well, they need to be making money hand over fist (no pun intended) in films and off rich lady clients.
"My wife has already vetoed the robotic girlfriend."
I know you're joking...BUT, I wonder, would real women (GF or spousal unit) really be mad if you had a robotic GF if technology got good enough for you to really want one?
I mean...just using it for physical pleasure...since it isn't a real human, would it be cheating? I'd think it would be MUCH less so, than Clinton's definition of sex...?
What about a step further, if VR got good enough to where you just plugged in? Would that be in any form cheating or just REALLY REALLY good porn?
Then again..I could see a future...where if the VR stuff was THAT good, would men start shying away from real women and reality? I mean, you get a VR chick that never ages, never says no, always looks JUST like you want her....and never complains or nags you. Who'd want the real thing after that (unless you wanted to reproduce).
"I think Google is gonna try to cram as much stuff as possible into Gmail. Soon you will actually be able to Gmail in your Gmail while you Gmail..."
Yeah..and that kinda blows...especially with them doing away with the 'classic' gmail front end soon.
I have an old iBook G3, which I keep on the nightstand...nice for doing simple email, etc...
However, gmail is getting too slow with all the new functionality, and all.
I guess I could set up apple mail to grab it as imap, but was just handy to have a web browser tab for gmail, and other tabs up at the same time.
I really wish they'd keep things separate..email is email, chat is chat....etc.
I prefer to choose the best of a component type, rather than something trying to do everything at once...which generally doesn't do any of the things that well.
"I've taken to processing my personal email in two 15 min chunks daily. "
Wow..interesting.
I mean...I get a good bit of mail all day, every day...but I pretty much process it as it comes in, quick answer to things important...trash for things that are not important.
And I monitor work email and personal gmail all day long....
I guess some people for some reason, see email as a bother/distraction (I've got one friend this way in particular), but I don't generally see it that way. I find it a nice break from the job thought mode frankly.
Strangely enough, this COULD catch on with much of the slashdot crowd. All you'd have to do, is get those barcodes down in the basements of many a/.dweller....then they could live with Mom AND girlfriend.
We could take it a bit further. How about attaching the exploding collar around the neck of every illegal alien we come across in the US, and we could put it on a timer, that would give them time to get their own asses back across the border.
That would help clean out the country, help keep only legal immigration coming in...and solve the problem with the US taxpayer having to pay to ship the illegals back out of the country.
Stay tuned to my next idea...of giving our military sharp shooter target practice at head shots for anything unauthorized coming across anywhere except for a legal checkpoint on our borders.
I gotta say...he seems to hit many things on the head, or at the very least, brings up some very interesting questions that really should be asked, both during the Bush administration, and the current Obama one.

I was bitten by a moose once...
Very interesting.
Now...for $50, can you now connect this chain somehow to Kevin Bacon?
Guess they'll get the mortium going again...and put the last steak in the heart of the economy of much of the Gulf Coast.
Hmm...wonder if this is the work of Eco-Terrorists??
Ok, what can I say..I love a good conspiracy theory....but seriously, this blows for us down here...grrrr
Hmm..does the new version require spinner hubcabs, and 3x subs so you can annoy your neighbors with the thump, thump, thump of the bass droning on and on and on...

Most recently...Oracle..I'm looking at YOU.
"Fuck you...come again!!"
Well, I don't keep'em around long enough to bother me with the nagging, etc...
I dunno what else really a girlfriend is for...someone to run around with, boink...etc. But if she stops being fun, well, there are plenty more of them out there.

Just another view on it..sad but true.
All the physical needs met...who needs a real one that nags you in between laying you?
And yet no mention of tuna taco???
Sounds like an incomplete menu to me....
And, IMHO..you are making the classic mistake that TOO many men these days are doing....and taking crap and being too submissive to their women. I've heard it called part of the 'pussification of America'.

Mind if I have a few drinks before we get the saw out?!?!?
You're not doing it right!!
"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day."
