I don't believe there's any "right to evict" people who were already living in an area. Being a programmer doesn't give you the right to seize people's homes because you feel more deserving of the weather or the landscape - regardless of how big your ego is, regardless of whether you do it personally or through a multitude of proxies, regardless of the current legality of those processes.

Besides that, rents are increasing vs. wages all across the United States. Considering that you can't make your employer move with you... this is a problem from which you can run, but you can't hide.

Err...where is it that anyone is coming in there, seeing a house they want and confiscating it from the current tenant or owner?

I've heard of no programmers coming into the area, seeing a house they want and somehow "evicting" the person within...?

However, a landlord has the right (depending on current in-force lease) to raise rents as they wish, and if current tenant doesn't have the ability to pay increased rent, then they have to move on to other places to live that are more affordable.

Are you saying a landlord has NO right to rent his property out for whatever price he wishes?

I don't hear of people owning their homes having them "seized" by private individuals, nor even with govt eminent domain from them...if this is happening, please link to it, I'd be VERY interested in reading on that. I would definitely protest that myself.

But you seem to be arguing against the free market and what people that own property can do as far as rental rates or what they wish to sell them for to other people.

I mean, that's as American as apple pie....if you own property, you should be able to do as you wish with it and set your own prices as the market will bear.

Who are you to tell the property owners what they can and cannot rent/sell for?

Are you upset about the Reagan-era law that says we can't have an automatic weapon manufactured after 1986?

Actually, yes, I am upset about the Huges Amendment which did say that the public could not possess machine guns made after 1986...essentially making so that ONLY the very wealthy could afford to buy the limited number of machine guns left.

The NRA and republicans really fscked us on that...the accepted the Hughes amendment as part of a deal for the larger Firearms Owners Protection Act. This did *nothing* to curb crime. Machine guns weren't being used in crime and there was no blood in the streets prior to that law.

Frankly, I don't think that law should be legal really. I don't know if it was ever challenged in court.

But that law, I believe, should not be constitutional...in that what part of "shall not be infringed." do they not understand? That's also why I'm against moves to ban bump stocks and binary triggers, especially since the language is so broad that it could very well be interpreted to just remove the right to own ANY semi-automatic weapon.

    But I digress.

It isn't the majority of people that own guns we have to worry about, otherwise with so many guns out there, we'd have literal bloodbaths in the streets. No, it is the few whacko's and criminals that are the problem, and if you look at gun death stats removing the suicides from those numbers....you see your chances of being shot by a criminal are about the same as getting killed in a car wreck.

But yes, I"d love to have a new machine gun. I could easily apply and qualify to buy a pre 1986 machine gun, but I don't have a spare $30K laying around to get one of the cheaper made ones. But I do believe it should be my right to be able to buy, own an legally use a machine gun, and prior to 1986, there was no problem with anyone doing just that, and we didn't have any problems.

It is the Bill of Rights...not the Bill of Needs.

Is it so hard to understand? Most people live their lives without needing a gun, and the primary experience is hearing about what harm somebody did with a gun.

Well, sure, there's always nuts somewhere, but hell, gun accidents claim more lives than criminal gun deaths, and considering how many guns are IN the US, that is a minuscule number statistically.

And I don't understand the use of the word "NEED".....I buy a LOT of things I don't "need"...you don't need a motorcycle, you don't need a good stereo and tv, you don't need nice hunting knives, you don't need a crossbow or archery set, you don't "need" a lot of things, but they are fun to buy and use legally.

Your chances of getting hurt or killed in the US by something other than a gun is very high, guns aren't the riskiest things you will face on your normal day in the US.

I'm sure glad that we have the Bill of Rights instead of the Bill of "Needs"....you know?

  12. $99 is just the base cost, you then have at add up all the extra you pay for over priced items that qualify for Prime.

Maybe it's better in the US, but I couldn't live off the selection available at Amazon UK.

Hmm...yeah, it must be MUCH different outside the US then.

I mean, pretty much *everything* find qualifies for Prime shipment, except some 3rd party items...and I don't find that Amazon is overpriced compared to other online retailers, if they even have what I want in stock at other online retailers.

And...I'm still able to get many things from Amazon without having sales tax added, although that is getting a bit tougher to find.

But being that Amazon is a US company, it is likely we get the best deals and selection. I'm guessing as they grow and expand, they will get better overseas too...but then again, ya'll have weird stuff like VAT taxes and other rules which don't apply here, so, who knows?

  13. I almost hate to say this, but walmart.com is coming on strong on a lot of common, and not so common items, it is price competitive with amazon, especially if you do the ship-to-store option

But UGH the thought of actually having to go to, park and go inside a Walmart....I just can't stand going into that place.

I rarely go to a Wally-world...usually only to get a really good deal on ammo (bird shot 100 packs for $19.99), and at times, oil or washing/waxing products for the car. But other than that, just can't stand the place and the food, ugh...their meat still has marks where the jockey was hitting it.

And well, amazon still has a LOT of 3rd party sellers, and from them, no sales tax is charged, which makes that still an attractive option.

Wally-world also needs to get their website looking and operating in a bit better, user friendly manner.

If Wally-world can match or beat the Amazon price, and do shipping in same 2 day manner and have the selection and not force me to go to a store, I'll give them heavy consideration.

But I like my life being made easier by improvements to content aware stuff, and all of the other improvements they have made over the years. I could do everything I do these days with PS7.0, but it would take me significantly more steps and longer. I like the software being smart enough to automate large chunks of the boring shit for me.

    I see your point...up to a point.

But with Adobe, and let's just take Photoshop as the example here....I look at today's PS CC, and honestly, while there are some updates and new things, there is nothing earthshaking with the current CC version that I can't really easily do in CS6....or with Affinity Photo.

Sure, they have made some changes, and some improvements, but nothing done so far, is so groundbreaking or new, that is can't easily be done already or replicated with CS6 or other products. In fact, Affinity Photo in so many cases, does the same thing and FASTER due to a better and newer engine.

I think my argument for things like PS is..the technology is largely mature and I don't there there are likely to be many things going forward that ARE earthshaking and will change anyones modern workflow.

Right now, I still play with PS CS6 and LR5. I'm toying with going ahead and buying LR6 while I still can....and from here, I'm looking elsewhere.

Right now I"m playing with On1 RAW as a LR replacement. Right now, I really love it except I do miss the cataloging and all from LR. A lot of people don't like the LR cataloging, but I do.

But so far, On1 is working great as a LR substitute.

I'd mentioned Affinity Photo...aside from a couple of things (I miss the ability to use the option key with a brush to quickly sample color in the work space)...I find it works great.

I find that both of them work just as well when it comes to content aware functionality. I've not seen any amazing strides with content aware from CS6 to current CC. Again, nothing earth shaking.

but hey, it works for some people and more power to them.

But even with as many people that migrated to Adobe CC's rental model...more and more I'm hearing grumblings about it and folks are looking for an alternative.
