I'm pretty sure I dont need the bird & bees talk with my 14 year old daughter. They have sex-ed at school and she told be about it. All I need to impress on her is that boys will say and do almost anything to get their end away. "I love you" is not some un-utterable incantation as perceived by Hollywood, but trips off the tongue of any hormonal teen boy. When the time comes, knowing which boys are more likely to be be respectful about it afterwards, as well as being "hot" is important. But right now, openDNS + Google safe search + AdBlock has been fine for me

This also isn't anything to do with any supposed race vs. culture distinction - it's still reasonable to stereotype in the way you describe based on race (or sex, come to that), but again crosses the line when you force others to do so.

I agree, Stereotying is an important behaviour *in the absence of other information*. Once we are in a situation long enough, we should be refining our initial assesment according to the situation. The line is crossed when people choose not to update/discard their stereotype assessment in a given situation, when it is warranted. (ie the stereotype is wrong)

The word 'Pedantic' does not imply negation nor disagreement.

So, to be pedantic, if you can't give me a definition from an RFC that states NAT shall not be used to describe PAT, then I will presume your correction to be in error.

To be *pedantic* at NO point did I say NAT was wrong.

Some may argue this is a good thing, but for the time being SMP is the way forward for faster processing as MHz has maxed out, in consumer PCS. So when they start buying octo-core CPUs they dont expect it to run at 1/8th speed by default.

I was also being a bit lazy. I could have checked up on each app in turn, but I asked /. instead.

There are times when discreet config files make sense and there are times when the registry makes sense.

The registry is good when programs need to find out what other programs do certain tasks. eg. A Mail Client wants to know what your web browser is, without your interaction. The Desktop Environments all have a registry of sorts to make this easier.

Discreet files are good when you want to run multiple versions or instances of the same or similar application without them interfering with one another. There are probably other pros and cons, but there are times when the registry idea is damn cool, but sometimes the implementation leaves a lot to be desired (eg class ids?)
