I am not sure about the example you picked.I have'nt done too much control systems, but AFAIK almost all the effects you can see in the the lab are the real part of the equation, right? All the equations might be of the form e^ik but what you see on the scope is only sin(k) or cos?(k). In this case I think you still have to get back to maths to explain the physics. Easiest way to teach somebody to learn imag. numbers is to ask him to code a Fast fourier transform, MHO only.
And he gives WinXP the highest for responsiveness.
Did he ever right click on a file icon and say properties?I bet it takes less time on Linux to open a shell, cd to the folder and do a ls -al and then search out the file you wanted.
Or did he ever try formatting a floppy while doing anything else?

Does the poster have something against IBM... to link an application to a slashdot post?
Even the guys who dont read the articles might be now tempted to try clicking to "enter text" link.
What has changed since this story is that an actual phone was displayed to the public. They still havent started selling them. And to be first released in Asia then Europe and then America
They claim a pixel by pixel copy
This must clearly be illegal since Microsft has patented the Start button. (their screenshots do have a start button though the Windows flag logo has been replaced.)
I bet if it gets pulled to court, even linking to XPDe site will be banned. CmdrTaco can go to jail
Fibre chanels I thought were used because
1) Huge expansivity.
2) Faster speeds, esp. over LAN (Storage area networks)
Why would one want to use it in a home setup?
You probably are not going to buy more than 3 or 4 Harddisks. I say if you want speed use more RAM(*though you wont get much for $250 * results might vary). If you want expansivity(not too much) and relatively fast (depends on a lot of stuff) access speeds and standards based setup, may I suggest iSCSI
The article says that if you can get close enough to zap a box with xrays and simultaneously get the box to let your Java code use 60% of the memory and if the machine does not hang then you have a 70% chance of getting root. And the RAM has to be non ECC RAM.
Looks like all xSeries servers from IBM and Dell(Power Edges) and HP ship only with ECC RAM , and ECC errors are actually logged by software.
So forget walking into Las Vegas Casinos with a Xray machine.
With smart-card readers integrated into your computers, will this be the solution to the great micropayment problem? (Similar things have appeared on prev./. stories, so idea not mine)
Or will somebody spam your computers with viruses to steal your money then?
Almost nothing new there which you couldnt have found by not sifting through earlier slashdot stories. What I would have really liked is something on the lines of "Here is patent number 1" and here is how linux is different/same.....
It is not as if SCO patent reads like "WE patent UNIX and everything that looks like it. And that is that. They have to patent some feature of the OS which they can accuse IBM of violating"
I think it is in reverse. WTC got bombed by terrorists. So A lot of US guys hate terrorists. So starting with Gorge Bush calling Saddam a terrorist everyone is trying to cash in on the anti-terrorist wave to get support.A classic case of giving a dog a bad name.
Basically M$ is trying to give it a terrorist angle in the hope that they will get more support from US government in forcing other nations into stricter copyrights
The WDA is a handheld device that contains the same components as an iDEN phone. This device does not use a numeric keypad. Instead, it contains voice recognition capabilities
Why did you say "halt"? Heck you rebooted the PDA in my shoes.
You are rational--(0)
Assume you are single.--(1)
Assume base Pi (From your post)--(2)
Since Pi is irrational in Base 1, 1 is irrational in Base Pi --(3)
Since you are single from eqn 3 and 1 it is clear that you are irrational.--(4)
Eqn 4 and 0 are contradictory, and Proof by contradiction sez your assumption must be wrong

From the article "GM said(in an ad):Electric cars are finally here" (apprximately)
Electric cars have come and gone through the decades, common in early 20th century. Went out with the Model T and made a comeback in WW2 time, along with wood burning cars, coal burners and the like.
Then GM introduces this one and then take it back out again
This sort of stuff has been going on for years. A new technology arrives, it has visible effects on society and then somebody commennts saying that the technology s bad
Very often, nothing is wrong with the technology, just with its implementation. Here the arguement seems to be that 1) people leave mail clients on all the time 2) Interactivity is lost by queing.
The first one clearly is easily solved. Dont leave your mail client on all the time if you have a problem. Part two: As long as both parties expect email to be non-interactive, again no problem. The probelm really is that we take the normal rules of conversation and apply it to emails
Anyday an email is better than your neighbour pooping in to your cubicle and questioning you at arbitrary moments as long as you are not a compulsive replier. And if you want interactivity use an IM client, since I can talk faster than i type, atleast I get time to think. Measured in terms of total gain/total loss I still think email is a good thing.
Similar arguements have been raised against TVs,phones, mobile phones, computers, etc. etc. None of them seemed to stop people from using it.
Is slashdot news for nerds or for technophobes?
1 Start a network for army
2 Open it to Universities
3 Open it to everyone
4 Watch while "terrorists" start to spread viruses on it
5 Start network for the Feds .....Rinse and repeat.
Yes, and may I add another one? In a lot of companies , there are "insider" pages which require authentication. The easiest solution from their point of view is to use NT Domain authentication. Opera just gives up saying invalid form of authentication And on top of that the page will have a lot of ActiveX/Some IE proprietary format
End result? You have a client/Server application with IE as the client, you no longer have a web application. Shady, I say.
That should be something, 'cause I can put a commie emulator on my box and run this code from there and I bet the footprint will still be smaller than Lynx.
Or I coud run an emulator from DOS to get multitasking maybe?
Quaoar apparently is a Native american force of creation. Link here. Ceres is a god of grains and stuff, if i remembere right ( Dunno roman or greek). Varuna is the (asian) Indian god of the sea and water.
So do these gods count?
And looks like quaoar is smaller than pluto. But it will be a planet since pluto is being demoted to an asteroid since it was named after a cartoon dog.
I dont know about the newer Nokia phones, but I did drop my Nokia 5510 while I was in a vehicle moving at around 40mph. The case came open, battery fell out, but then you put it back together and it actually worked! All it had was a scratch.
I also know of somebody who dropped his 3210 from the fourth floor of a building and still had it working.
But then both of these are of the "bigger" kind , wonder how a 7210 behaves.
Good
Unix,C,Java (desgned to run on small appliances),IBM PC,incandescent bulbs.....
A lot of military stuff, from ww2 times like

Bad
x86 instruction set, original code in dos that caused y2k problems,
Or GNU/T/Linux.
Certainly sounds better

I'll anyday take Fermat over Chaucer.
I agree I can't understand some of his theorems, but I can't understand poetry at all.
