SCO is publicly traded under the symbol SCOX, of course it's a company. IDK about Debian, but have you ever heard of Gentoo Technologies, Inc? And of course Mandrake is a company, they recently filed bankruptcy, did they not?

Think back to the days when Microsoft was starting with Win3.1. At the same time, Novell was after the same market share. Novell's marketing strategy was to meet with all of the CTOs and low-level IT guys and get them sold on Novell. This worked. Microsoft then had to come up with a way of getting those corporations to use Win3.1, instead. Microsoft, instead of talking to the IT guys, went straight to the CFOs and CEOs. Microsoft was able to sell them, and Win3.1 became the work force's de facto. People generally want to keep things simple with their computer, so obviously the people who knew nothing of computers would want Microsoft Windows on their home computers, too. Thus began the Microsoft Empire.

I hope this helps your over-rated comments.

Maybe it's the fact that I am reading this at 0330 (MST). However, I think a lot of the /.ers commenting on this article are reading into the potential just a little bit too far. People are talking about stuff anywhere from losing their jobs to nanotechnology all the way to robots taking over the world. This article is about a nano-scale being able to weigh ~122 atoms of gold. This article is not talking about a nano-scale that was able sense the weight, then reflect about it in its /. journal or develop a mastermind scheme on how it will take over the world.

And unless this ity-bity scale was merely crafted by engineers and never programmed (thus being able to program itself), then I think the human race has nothing to worry about. That's right, /.ers, save your conspiracy theories; they have no weight in comments about being able to measure gold.
