Not really. In my family we have about 4 digital cameras. We take ALOT of photos. Most of those then get dumped onto the drives of my fileserver. The drive is currently storing about 90 Gig of Photos (none of which are p0rn) and it's only got ~12 months worth of pictures. It won't take me lone to fill the 120 GIG disk (and the second disk that it mirrors to weekly with an rsync type application). I could see some people (like pro photographers, amature film makers, and others like them) needed 1 TB of storage and not wanting to use CD/DVD/Tape.

    Really? Look here

My reciever supports Pro Logic IIx.

Pro Logic IIx is the first and only technology to process any native stereo or 5.1 signal into a 6.1- or 7.1- channel output, creating a seamless, natural surround soundfield that immerses you in the entertainment experience..

So what point, precisely, do I stop taking you seriously?

  18. Re:Interesting - 5.1 the magic version number? on Microsoft Word 5.1: The Apex of Word Processing · · Score: 2, Informative

That's only 1/2 the story. The sound is also diectional, meaning that a sound from the FL can "immitate" a sound from the RL, but not as well as if you have a RL speaker, and while it's doing the job of 2 speakers (a RL and a FL) it has some intereaction of those signals (which can lead to destructive interference). If you want to see want I mean get rid of 3 of you speakers and let your bose system "reset" using the mic. Then watch T3. You will see that the rear sounds arn't as good as with the 5 speaker set up. Adding 7 gives you that much more distinction between the side and rear signals.

Yeah, but if you have a reciever with a good DSP it can "fill in" and you can hear Trinity run from the FR speaker to the F to the FL to the L to the RL. It's also amazing how even w/ 2 channel input (radio) a good DSP can move the singer to 70% the center/F speakers and 30% everywhere else and do the inverse on the "music" and give you a very emersive enviroment from 2 channel. That's why many of the 7.1 recievers are $$ more then the 5.1, they have DSPs to do cool things and acutally use all 7 of the speakers.

I had a friend who got around this with a Copy Protected CD. He took it back, said "Hey this won't play correctly in my Car's mp3-cd player" they exchanded if for the same title. Is still wouldn't play (because of the copy protection) so he once again exchanged it. After the 4th exchanges they just gave him store credit for the original product because he kept exchainging it. In his veiw it was "defective" if it would not play in his player and therefor was excersizing his rights under the terms of the sale to exchange it for one that was hopefully not defective. I'm not sure that this tactic would work on the CDs that play fine but just can't be copied (because that's not defective) but it was entertaining to see how many times best buy would give him new copies of that CD, each time passing the cost of the "defective" disk onto the manufacturer.

Yeah but if it's copy protected the DMCA makes it illegal to circumvent the copy protection to make your back up. The two laws, which not directly contradicting each other, make it illegal for you to make the backup that would be legal for you to have. This is just one of the ways that "Fair Use" has been erroded in recent years. This is why DVDXCOPY, which is supposed to make it possible for you to use your fair use rights, was ruled illegal.

Sometimes it can be difficult (and take a day or two) to get a new raid card and durring that time your data is not avaliable. I use the multi-PC approach with scripts that keep them up-to-date (no one of the 3 drives is ever more then 24 hours out of date and I can force a sync sooner if I need to). The only down side is that if there is a significat amout of changes then the network get get a little bogged down durining the moves.
