It worked with DivX. The reason that failed was that MOST people avoided it. If you ever see a product you want that is only available in this new EZ-D format, contact the company and tell them that you are not only not buying it, but that you will not buy any of their other products either, until they stop using that system. When enough of us do that, they will have a simple choice; stop using the system and have out money, or continue to use that system and NOT have our money. I believe that like DivX, they will choose our money...
Are you kidding me! If I paid for a server with a 900 Mhz or 1 Ghz processor, and the company that produced the processor said that I had to underclock the chip for it to work properly I'd ask for a refund. And it one wasn't forthcoming...
Actually, there is no enumerated right to privacy. We all have things that are private, and hope to keep them that way. Do you have a Social(ist) Security card? Mine says "For Social Security [sic] and Tax Purposes - NOT for Identification" right on it. How many times have you been forced to provide that number for identification in your life? It is on my driver's license (also no right to drive), my doctor and dentist have it, my credit card companies all have it, my bank has it, and several other places required it as well. So how much privacy do you really have?
[Of course, if you are not American, you won't have a SS number/card]
Sure, you only give up about half of your income to Federal, State, County, City and Social(ist) Security taxes combined. So just how much do you consider "too much taxes"? 60%? 70%? 80%? 90%?
Sir, a lot of people went to school before there were ANY computers, and they turned out okay. Who are you to judge how they spend THEIR money anyway? What are you, a Democrat!?!
Seriously, I hit 10th grade right when the local high school upgraded their computer room to 7 Apple II+ systems (up from 1 Apple and a Wang). I consider myself lucky to have just moved to that area. I did my time as a programmer, but gave that up long ago. But I built most of the systems in the house right now on our 5 PC Network (and got that running too). Without the early time spent with Apples, I wouldn't have had the motivation.
But the truth still remains, most people don't need a top end computer to do what they need to do.
The reviewer said: "But if you're looking for something a little more than crash, bang, wallop then this second instalment will leave you cold. Reloaded is crammed full of the cod philosophy that fans of the original loved but which left me distinctly unimpressed.
The plot is even more convoluted than before and flits between everything from religion to quantum physics and mathematics."
They didn't care for the first movie, so why would anyone expect that they would like the sequels...
I'm in Ohio. A lawyer in Florida who bid the $3.00 Buy It Now price on one of my items in December, 2002, is trying to extort $500.00 from be by threatening to sue for $100,000.00 in Florida unless I pay him the $500.00. He violated my listed TOS several times, and then threatened me, so when he sent a PayPal I refunded it right away and we exchanged Negative feedback. Mine was "he violated my TOS" type comments, and his was "this guy is whacko" and he also implied that I kept his money (a flat out LIE).
He claims I damaged his on-line reputation. His overall rating is up 97 since, with no Negs. Mine is up 103, with 10 Negs (I leave feedback for all high bidders, especially deadbeat bidders). He also has 5 bid retractions in the last 6 months. If his rep is damaged, maybe he should consider honoring his bids...
Of course, I am not paying him a penny. My attorney is working on the matter right now. If he follows through, I will sue him here. I am also considering ethics and criminal charges against him. This could (could, I'm not a lawyer) become a federal matter, as he used the USPS to deliver his extortion threat (ala The Firm).
Once, a buyer left me a Positive feedback and used my REAL first name in the 80 character comment. The next thing I knew, eBay removed it and would not let them leave another comment!
"Nope, it didn't have a ready made fan base but it does now."
I agree! Just think of this, X-Men 2 did $33 Million opening day, compared to X-Men 1 with $21 Million on its opening day. And X-Men HAD a built in audience for its first movie due to 35 or so years of comic-books (and two different cartoon shows too).
The Matrix did $4.8 Million on its opening day in 1999 (a Wednesday, and went on to do $4.8, $9.6 and $10.7 to close out that week).
X-Men 2 will probably remain #1 until May 14th. The Matrix Reloaded opens May 15th...:^) I have no heard any estimates, but personally I think that $50 Million might be possible.
I know you were commenting on PCI vs AGP, since your computers didn't have an AGP slot (and I still have a few old ones that don't either), but I just want to say that PNY makes really great graphics cards and has great customer service! I tried an off-brand, and found that in two identical systems, the off-brand version of the same PNY card in the other system performed like CRAP. I returned it, ate the 15% restocking fee, and bought another PNY. PNY makes memory, and so they don't use cheap memory to make their boards. The only problem I've had with 3 PNY boards was one new OEM had those plastic arrow style hooks that hold the fan on the heatsink that arrived broken (they still held, but they weren't going to hold for long). PNY refused to give or sell me some new plastic arrows, but they sent me a NEW board to replace my almost new board (had used it for a few days before contacting them). When I balked at paying return shipping, they authorized me to use their FedEx account for the return and cross-shipped. Once I got the card and made sure it worked, I sent the first one back. You can't beat that!
Uhm, just because you use a thermal product and better (ie, 3rd party) heatsink/fan combo does NOT mean you are overclocking. I used those things with my boxed Athlons, and I've never overclocked. I just want a cool (temperature wise) system.
I agree on having at least as many fans blowing out as in. I have one intake on the front, the power supply fan blowing out and two slot fans also blowing out (one right next to the graphics card and the other, with the metal slot part removed, attached right above the power supply, thanks to the design of my case).
Getting air into your system is important, but getting the warm air out is just as, if not more important. Good luck!
Uhm, boxes of latex gloves are dirt cheap and you can also use them for refilling ink cartridges, or committing crimes (I guess).:^)
Seriously, after the research I did when building some Athlon systems last fall, the wax pads are NOT the way to go. Weighing all the options I went with Arctic Alumina (ceramic material) from Artic Silver. Dirt cheap (shop around), and no regrets.
Well, I can tell you for a fact that the heatsink/fan combo that came with the boxed Athlon's I used to build some systems last fall looked cheap. I don't overclock, but I bought an overclocker's style heatsink/fan combo, and combined it with Artic Alumina from Arctic Silver and everything works very well.
Avon Skin-So-Soft removes grease (and also gummy label residue and even permanent marker off of certain surfaces) very well. It contains Eucalyptus oil. Once it "cuts" the grease, you can use a light soap to remove the trace of oil. This stuff also repels mosquitoes. Stock up, it is a great product, and it smells nice too! And no, I don't work for Avon!:^)
When I built my Athlon systems, AMD supplied some kind of thermal grease with the boxed CPUs! I chose to use Arctic Alumina instead, which is ceramic. No problems, so far (about a year).

As does Micro$oft! And yes, I still use Windows, but its 98se as I won't upgrade past 2000 (bought but not installed yet) since starting with XP they want me to ask them for permission to makes changes to my own system! Screw them and screw Intuit (writing to the MBR was the end for them with me)!
Cox Cable HSI (high speed internet) here in the Cleveland, Ohio, area is uncapped on download amount and they also don't care how many computers you have on your LAN. I currently have two on standard Ethernet, and 3 more via Phoneline network connected to my router (the last three via a phoneline/Ethernet router/bridge with the router feature turned off). I'll be dumping the phoneline part soon (due to limitations of the technology) and running Ethernet Cat5e cable to the upstairs area of the house. In fact, the networking kit from ComputerGeeks is due to be here tomorrow. I can't wait!!!
The last time I downloaded a Linux distro (I believe Mandrake 9.1, 3 CDs) it took about 1.5 hours via FTP and I was hitting between 340 and 400 KBps on my cable modem. I'm more than happy to pay $34.95 a month for that ($44.95 per month without another cable service).
On-line gaming is good, when I've had the time, and depending on the server I usually get between 40-100 ms ping, but even 100-200 is playable.
