I live in the chicagoland area, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is the mass transit for chicago and 40 surrounding suburbs. Buses provide about 1 million passenger trips a day and the elevated trains 'L' serve 500,000 passengers a day. this is just within the Chicago system. We also have a Metra rail system that runs out of 2 different stations in Chicago that bring commuting riders in from as far away af 50 miles everyday on 9 different tracks. They are forcasting about 78,437,000 passenger rides in 2005 with passengers riding over 1.7 billion miles total. On my own experience, when I took the metra before moving to chicago, i spent 47 minutes each way if i was lucky enough to be traveling on an express train. If i did not get an express the 27 stops it made took over an hour and a half. Would I use one? Hell yes. and i imagine there are hundreds of thousands in just chicago who would. Imagine New York Atlanta, ect and all of their public transit riders. Just my thoughts though.
Also known as the uberman sleep cycle. I tried it for a few months one summer. It really works, but you cant do it with an 8 hour a day job where your not guaranteed a break at a certain time. also, if you don't have a group of people your doing it with, all those hours awake and alone can get taxing on your mental state. here look at this site, sorry I'm not geek enough to actually place a link in so cut and paste.
So they donate some of their profits in turn have an endless number of slasdot readers see their name, we buy a bag, i think they are banking on the number of bags sold making up for the lost profits. then they get great publicity on slashdot. somebody in their marketing will either get a fat bonus if it works or a boot to the curb if it flops
You would then have to seperate administrations governing the same territory, they need authorization to use the airspace already being regulated. adding a second administration would just be a setback.
During My flight training we always had out cell phones on and in the cabin, I never had a problem unless we received a call, the 1970 electronics would crackle and pop when a phone would begin ringing. Also, with nextel phones, the disturbance was magnified by at least 5. I have no idea what would cause these problems, but it never affected any approach or nav instruments during my instrument training. My instructor used to call his next student while we were on final approach. The poping and fizzing wasent unbareable so i never thought anything of it.
Yes there are only 50 strikes a year, but of that 50 roughly 3 cause property damage, there was more than double that from this single strike. It is getting this publicity because this explosion caused the sky to light up similar to a lightening strike for nearly ten seconds, thus seen by thousands of people. Sad for me i live in a basement, and didnt get to see anything.
