  1. Re:Almost competing on Windows 7 Upgrade Can Take Nearly a Day · · Score: 1

Tochè. I'll admit, I never tried installing 95 via floppy disk. I think I only installed it from a MSDN cd once. My first computer came with it preloaded. Only thing close to that, is when I did boot windows xp from the emergency floppy boot disks (6 required to do the trick). And that was mainly because it was so absurd.

So yes. Windows 7 is easier to install than windows 95 via floppy disk. That is a valid point,I guess.

Was it a real windows 2000 cd, or just a pirated cd?

I installed win 2000 maybe ten times, never had an issue with needing a boot disk, or having it take any longer than a win 98 install. On the other hand Slackware was asking me questions about the type of mouse I used ,what kind of port it was connected to, and the horizontal frequency of my monitor (ok that was x86config, but still).

They hired a stupid guy to install some adbanner to their site. His windows based computer was infected by several viruses. It was still infected, but Windows was the primary infection vector combined with the stupidity of the computer owner.

A good point. Anyone is free to do what ever they like with the gpl donated code that doesn't violate the gpl. That includes not including it in a future official Linus sanctioned Linux kernel. But, I think GKH is trying to get companies to stay active in development of their own donated code, using the carrot of inclusion in the Official Linus Kernel. That's not a bad idea. Someone has to fund the ongoing maintenance costs of the drivers.

As the drivers usage primarily benefits Microsoft, why not them?

XP SP2 was a huge change that included a built in firewall, and a complete new compile after the introduction of several code analysis tools to specifically seek out and destroy buffer overflows. Xp still has security issues, but its so incredibly better than SP1. Original vista wouldn't have been derided so much if it had been compared to XP SP1, in fact I think it would have been hailed as Microsoft finally getting it right.
