They gave each address a "16-bit" number, which meant that the total number of available addresses worked out at about four billion (2 to the power of 32).
On what planet does this sentence even come close to making sense?
"Presuming that the latter have static IPs the former draw different IP from some pool each time they connect."
I have dsl and according to dyndns.org, my dynamic IP host, my ip was last updated on April 13. Just because someone is using PPPoE doesn't mean that each time they visit your site they will have a new ip.
As a recent CSE graduate of a prominent public university in the midwest, I can tell you that the CSE designation does not necessarily mean that the individual has a background in both hardware and software. In my case, it simply means that I graduated from the college of engineering's program in computer science as opposed to the liberal arts program in computer science. The technical component of each program is identical. The only difference is the general ed component. There is a big difference between "computer science and engineering" and "computer science and computer engineering."
Ever heard of movielink.com? I can rent a movie with decent picture quality and start playing it 5 minutes after I click download. And no, I don't have an ultra fast connection, just 1.5 Mb. Sure, it's not as good as DVD quality but its a heck of a lot better than vhs. Jobs seems to think that any movie worth watching is going to be 4 GB in size. With wmv video a 650 MB 2 hour movie is extremely watchable, and the ~1200 MB enhanced quality movies approach DVD-quality. The main thing that they lack is 5.1 sound. Just cause Jobs said it doesn't make it true.
People make deceisions based on emotion, not logic. Sure this might be win a convert here or there but what about evolution? Why isn't the the fact that evolution appears to be correct creating tons and tons of converts to atheism/agnosticism? It's because people want to remain religious so they make their decisions based on emotion (spirtuality) and relationalize back (intelligent design). I have no doubt that a discovery of life on mars would have a similar effect ("It must have come from earth!" or "God put it there, too").
I picked the name that looked the easiest to solve: the man's name with the apostrophe in the first column. After about 30 seconds of inspection I cam up with "Peter O'Toole." Your welcome.

Ok, I see your point about the population density but I don't really understand what you are saying about price competition. First you say "the telecoms monopoly is restricted from price gouging" then you say "Competition, who would have thought of it." Which is it? Is there a telco monopoly that is regulated by the government or is there many companies resulting in competition? I am not disagreeing with you I would just like a little clarification. In America, we are taught that competition always results in the best possible sitiuation for the consumer, but there are exceptions. Please clarify.
Smaller countries such as Japan and Korea can more easily change their network infrastructure (see cell phones, broadband, etc.) We should compare America's network infrastructure to Russia or China or heck even Australia. Comparing it to a much smaller country (in both square footage and population) will not lead to any meaningful conclusions.
The purpose of any company is to make a bunch of money. I'm not sure what your point is. I think it's great when a large company such as Cisco can bring a promising but under-utilized technology to market by acquiring a company. If this leads to fewer ddos's, great.
On another note, there's a great gem of market-speak in this pr:
"CleanMachines' turnkey approach directly complements Cisco NAC, which leverages a systems architecture approach that is more appropriate for Enterprise customers."
It has nothing to do with the computer! Have you ever noticed that people will go back to the same seat in a classroom, even if they know no one in the class and there is not assigned seating? Humans are creatures of habit, plain and simple.
That is a informative page with a good clear argument but it's not really what I had in mind. I would be willing to bet that he was not licensed to carry that gun. People who carry handguns illegally generally do so because they are committing some other crime which requires a hand gun, such as dealing drugs or robbing liquor stores or a similar occupation, which will get a person killed sooner or later.
Vader is shaking his fist and trying to convince Luke that he should join him and rule the galaxy...and Lucas says "I don't really remember what he's saying here, it's not really important."
Yeah its a Gibson Explorer, hence the controller name, X-Plorer
There's a difference though: people don't get to choose their cause of death.
...no need to reinvent the wheel.

I don't believe there is any power way to evaluate a linux distro than screenshots, except for maybe it's logo.

We have a winner! Great discussion.

uses electromagnetic radio frequency energy to knock out transmissions on a temporary and reversible basis, without frying components
Is it possible to knock out transmissions on a reversible basis while frying components?
I don't know why this was modded as troll, I guess I should be more careful when choosing my subject...

All the bandwidth in the world won't do you any good if your servers aren't up to snuff.

Why is "Enterprise" capitalized?
It has nothing to do with the computer! Have you ever noticed that people will go back to the same seat in a classroom, even if they know no one in the class and there is not assigned seating? Humans are creatures of habit, plain and simple.
Dear God I hope you're right. I'm hungry and my cardboard box is starting to leak.

Carrying a gun around in public is more likely to get you killed than it is to keep you alive.
