considering Im writing this with a LCD monitor, yes I have. LCDs still suck for graphics and can not reproduce color properly or have as wide a range of resolutions a CRT has.
Sorry thems the breaks, they are great for most general stuff, but someone in the buisness of graphic design wouldnt be using on unless they where forced to for one reason or another.
and is managing to piss off 3/4th of them every single update and is one of the few games to get awards taken AWAY from them for their poor service and support.
Like the WoW crack, but the fact is it will always be known as MMO lite and not a true MMORPG. And honestly before WoW, FFXI WAS the best non-korean MMO out there, with player figures twice as high as the closest rival at its peak(EQ). Despite the "onslaught" of WoW not only did FFXI pretty much keep its playerbase, but now has had the great advantage of sucking off those WoWers who either got so fed up with Blizzard they left, or found that they missed FFXI and came back and got their accounts back from SE.
So joke all you want, but FFXI is doing well, so well infact that they are opening it up to another plaform with the chance it might go to all three next gen systems, and getting a third expansion out as well as boosting SEs profits by 50% last year.
Honestly I hate LCDs. Their color reproduction on all but the most expensive monitors sucks. The push really seems to be a industry one and totally profit related. But until certain new technologys mature, CRTs will still be the best monitors out there for a lot of things, especially graphics.
or much like the Virtual Gameboy, people are simply not interested in what either have to offer, especially since one has NO games, and the other shuns a lot of the backwards compatablilty that the advannce had.
Honestly while I love my DS, im playing more Advance games on it, and I am not happy that unless I hack my system, my much larger library of gameboy/color games is SOL. Thats just me, Im one of those gamers who looks at a good game not having to have the best graphics.
A lot of the new crop of gamers would play Shit Tosser 3000 as long as it had good graphics despite the gameplay being so buggy that pressing the right button may not give you the same result every time o_O. There are a lot of us those who would shun these games in favore of our older Gameboy greats, and you cant play those on a DS.
Nintendo has hung into the lead, we are only counting DS here, Nintendo still sells the Advance, SP, and now a new mini one based on the Advanced platform is comming out. Likewise while games sales between the two have been neck and neck, advance game sales are well past either system.
Thats a very poor comparison to make though. Saying Nintendo dropped the ball on the DS simply because some geeks dont find it nearly as hackable as they expected, while others have found it to be greatly hackable and (gasp) unlike the PSP have actually managed to DO things with it like hack the 802.11 on it in the US since both the JP and US versions are the same.
So if we are going to say that anyone dropped the ball, its sony by making the US version different than the Japanese version.

Nintendo dropped the ball??? Last I looked except for 2 weeks the DS has outsold the PSP every week since release, not to mention Nintendo has more games comming out for the DS than Sony has for the PSP.
FFXI has always seemed to be a lot more fun to me than EQ ever was, yet still manages to be 100 times more challenging. I figure a lot of people agree, which is why aside from Korean MMORPGS and WoW FFXI is one of the most popular games out there, with a userbase far ahead of EQ when it was in its prime.
No, they are not.
Gone was trash, the book was much better than the movie and even THATS not saying much because the book was pretty bad too. It gets a lot of praise thats very undeserving of a lot of movies in that timeperiod simply cause a lot of people loved it. It does NOT mean it was a GOOD movie. A LOT of people love the Star Wars movies, but they ARNT good movies, they are fun movies and I love them, but none of them could hold a candle to Brazil, or Blade Runner.
yeah only a couple hundred left in the US its back to being novel here too cause no one has them anymore.
I saw so many movies though at a drivein in NY. 7 bucks a person 2 first run movies, was a lot of fun and with a good car audio system rocked hard core.
I agree with you, I have not at all found a lot of the problems people complain about and those I know who do seem to have strange setups that I personally would find less than optimal a setup for their systems.
Well since your not technically capable to figure it out yourself.
Botting programs are seperate programs running under the client, SE DID figure out a way to prevent you from botting, you just cant run other programs while you play. Windower allows you to though by being able to minimize and launch a program.
Botting programs typically cant be launched before you log in, you usually have to launch them after your already in the game by tabbing out and launching the program.
Course a simple search would have given you this information.
and well what is SE to do about the fact that 90% of the world is stupid enough to be running a virus filled OS that would have a anti-virus program warn you every hour.
I get a message from my program maybe one a week.... but then again I'm smart, I run OS X.
Well the windower thing will never be fixed they would rather a few people not play then lay the relm open to easily be botted. As it is now they constantly update the PC client to stop windower from working since its against the TOS.
honestly I continue to not see the point in it, maybe its because I grew up in a time where you couldnt have other programs running on a PC and play a graphics heavy game, but I see no point in leaving a chat program or my email when I am playing a game.
It wont be a graphical update of the PC version, but it WILL be graphically better than the PS2 version. Realistically though anyone who buys a MMORPG or any game based on graphics alone is a moron.
And the reason behind it is that they do not want to lose the PS2 fanbase which while smaller in America is well over 50% of the Japanese users.
Why would EQ2 come out for the PS3? EQ never came out for the PS2, only a bastardized version of it called EQ Online Adventures which pretty much dissapeared as fast as the Mac version which also was different did.
They have never been about the smash bang first number one system EVER. They where number one because of content, and they still do content better than everyone because for ever re-release they put out there is some new inovative game that actually IS inovative like Donkey Konga. Nintendo now though has decided that being the second system people buy for their home is just as good as being the first. They still have a big fanbase who will buy Nintendo underwear iif it came out and they still have games that even being "kiddy" manage to get people to go out and BUY the system (case in point, Animal Crossing got my GF to buy hers, I still am questioning buying a Cube for Zelda since I loved playing hers so much)
Nintendo has become the Apple of the gamming world, just look at the Revolution its self, almost exactly like a gaming version of the Mac mini. I think they are very happy being #2.
Now I got to wash my brain out for EVER agreeing with anything G4 has ever said.
Actually I have played WoW. I started from the Mac beta. I came back to WoW after 2 months realizing WoW was just a grown up diablo II with Blizzard still having the same ISSUES they had with Diablo II.
They ment well, but WoW missed thw whole aspect of challenge... there are no real challenging missions, and killing people just isnt fun in a MMORPG, thats FPS BS. At least FFXI makes for a challenging game. Try the Zilart of even better the CoP missions sometime. There is a reason only roughly 1--2 thousand people out ofthe whole game have gotten to sea.
Um not really. My LS lost 9 members to WoW, they all came back after a month tired of how easy WoW was. We only lost 2 to guildwars (both during beta) and both stopped playing MMORPGs later.
Anyone whos been playing FFXI can tell you the servers are overcrouded again even after adding 2 thus I doubt they are hurting for anyone. What they most likely ARE doing is preping themselves for the eventual migration away from WoW since the biggest problem with it is no content still. Even FFXI had major content upgrades 6 months after release in Japan, WoW has had only stuff that pissed off more people like the moronic honor points system. EQII despite having only 300,000 has also preped a major content update. WoW..... making battlegrounds, a blatent FFXI Ballista ripoff with less people per a team (20 vs the 72 people cap of Ballista) And now the developers plan on adding another version of the PvP sytem outside of ballista as well as solo content.
Lets face it, yeah FFXI might have hurt for a little bit, but WoW just cant keep their users and the other MMORPGs including FFXI, EQII, SWG and others know it. WoW has become the baby step for those people who are not into these games but want to try it out. Anyone who thinks that real gamers would play a game where even the biggest dolt can get endgame with excellent equips is shitting themselves.
Since when did playing a game mean everything had to be handed to you on a silver spoon? Where is the challenge in that? WoW is just a grown up Diablo II with Guildwars being even MORE so a ripoff of Diablo II Those arent MMORPGs, especially guildwars where there isnt even other people in the dungeon WITH you. Those are multiplayer games, there is nothing massive about it.
seems to me based on your comment at the end your just a teeniebopper who couldnt hack it so feel the need to make themselves feel better they went to a poor mans MMO. Good luck to you on that.
Sorry thems the breaks, they are great for most general stuff, but someone in the buisness of graphic design wouldnt be using on unless they where forced to for one reason or another.

Worldwide sales put the PSP way behind.

The DS has sold twice as many as the PSP has even shipped.
So if we are going to say that anyone dropped the ball, its sony by making the US version different than the Japanese version.
Nintendo hardly dropped the ball on the DS.

Just seems the author just doesnt like MMO's.

nah If it can handle the much more graphically heavy FFXI it can handle the original EQ. SOE just doesnt see the reason to go to their systems.
And the reason behind it is that they do not want to lose the PS2 fanbase which while smaller in America is well over 50% of the Japanese users.

hehe looks like the WoW fanboys are out and about it seems,
If ANYONE was looking for subscribers its EQII, not FFXI.
