Yes, I'm familiar with the noise regulations, and the large market for the louder more 'real' pipes. They bring out the sound I like;)
Most bikes sound rather good with good after-market pipes. One of my friends has a Suzuki Marauder which sound almost like a Harley, and it's much, much cheaper.
But there is still no sound comparable to the sound of a good old Harley engine going from "chuck-chuck-chuck" to an ear-splitting explosion of a roar.
Yes, you could probably call me a sound fetichist. I'm the kinda guy who likes standing outside in a thunderstorm just to really hear the thunder:)
Power Metal is a melodic style of metal, sometimes crossing into speed metal. Some of the more significant power metal bands are Blind Guardian, Rhapsody and Iced Earth.
You don't need the manager to use the iRiver. It can be used as a USB Mass Storage device. I just think you need some program to update the DB on the player. There are a couple of open source programs, and I believe they could work on OS X.
There might even be an official manager program for OS X somewhere.
Honestly, I don't really care if Linux (or BSD or whatever) takes over the desktops. It doesn't matter for me.
What matters for is that it stays a viable alternative. That means that I will fight against closed "standards" and DRM etc. etc..
The one thing I fight for is interoperability. Every computer user should use what he is most comfortable with, and if we can all interoperate across different operating systems, I consider the fight for open standards a success. People seem to forget that Windows is also a choice when they rap on about "The Freedom To Choose"...
I won't push Linux to everyone I meet. But if someone asks me about it, I will gladly recommend it, and discuss it's advantages and drawbacks. I figure, if people know enough about it to ask someone about it, they probably want to hear what all the 'buzz' is about. I use Linux because I like it, and because it feels right to me. I don't want anyone to destroy that by making everything "Aunt Tilly Compatible".
Please consider this a +1 insightful mod, even though I have no mod points.
I really don't know, but perhaps it was done that way so people who weren't really that good at using two controls for movement could play the game anyway?
They would be a bit handicapped, but I believe you could play through the whole game without even touching the C-buttons.
Keep in mind, though, that this was the default setup. There were 4 different setups, and I think one of them was just the way you describe.
Personally, I can't stand the Halo controls. In fact, I think the controls for Goldeneye 64 were the best console FPS controls ever.
Analogue stick for moving forwards/backwards and turning, yellow C-buttons for looking up/down and strafing, A-button for activating stuff, B-button for switching weapons, R-button for precise aiming and Z-button for firing. It made sense, even though you were squeezing the trigger with your left hand.
Man... I gotta play that game again... My hands are twitching just thinking about it:)
That depends on your definition of "better sounding".
If better sounding is a 100% perfect reproduction of sound, digital is "better".
If better sounding is a warmer, more alive sound (with a dramatically higher noise floor), then records are "better".
Just as a solid-state amp is best for playing music and a tube amp is best for creating music. Jon Lord's magnificent playing just wouldn't sound as good if it was originally created with a solid-state amp and some digital effects, would it? But on the other hand, why introduce even more distortion by playing it back through a tube amp?
In short:
Digital for reproduction, analogue for athmosphere:)
I just read the page you linked to, and I couldn't believe my own eyes.
Are people really that neurotic?
Washing your hands as often as is recommended on that page is a sure-fire way to either get a rash, or develop an allergy.
There is no reason for being freaked out about being 'unclean', and unless you're a doctor, there is absolutely no reason for washing your hands every 30 minutes.
Hell, some of the features that are supposedly going to be in Longhorn were supposed to have been in "Chicago", meaning Win95, almost 10 years ago!
Microsoft are truly the masters of vapourware.
For the more mature gamers who remember the good old days with Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 3 will be the best.
For the kids (for whom Half-Life was their first real FPS), Half-Life 2 will probably be the best.
I'm rooting for Doom 3.
Well, I think she's beautiful :)
And she's a hell of a lot more attractive than some silicone-pumped anorexic "super"-model.
Fat???
What have you been drinking?
She's a beautiful healthy looking young woman, that's what she is.

Nice troll.
What you're talking about is 80es metal.
Power Metal is a melodic style of metal, sometimes crossing into speed metal. Some of the more significant power metal bands are Blind Guardian, Rhapsody and Iced Earth.
You lose, but thank you for playing.
Sure, some people like to be loud to try and be rebellious.
I just happen to like the sound. It's a nice sound. It's a beautiful sound (well, to me it is!).
There are few things in this world which will put a big fat grin of sheer bliss on my face, and the sound of a Harley is one of them.
Hmmm... from looking at that page, I am pretty certain it should rather be called "Why Windows PCs Crash, and Mainframes Don't"...
Or perhaps the quite talented power metal group Stratovarius?

Heh...
:P
If I were to ever buy a Harley, it would be purely because of the sound.
Nothing turns on girls like the roar of a classic Harley engine
AGREED!

I second that.
AdBlock is probably the single most useful Mozilla extension.

There is one big flaw with ROX.
It only supports unicode, and since I use ISO-8859-15, the filenames are a mess.
If ROX would just support other charsets than UTF-8, I (and many others) would be very happy.
Have you tried the Bitstream Vera fonts?
Example 1
Example 2
The font is Bitstream Vera Sans with Xft.
(Bear in mind that these screenshots are taken on a computer with an LCD monitor... They may look a bit 'off' on a CRT)

I believe it was a floppy bomb, not a CD bomb.
You would peel the disk apart, cover the black disc inside, varnish and reassemble.
The friction from the read/write head would set it off...
Not that I have any experience in this field, mind you...
I have about 60 of my CDs encoded in Ogg... I think that's reason enough for me to want Ogg support in a portable player ;)
(I'm not really keen on ripping all those CDs again...)
Exactly.
The 'missing' Ogg Vorbis support and low battery life on the iPods were the two main things that made me buy an iRiver player instead.
Must be the Model M version, then...
Agreed. F-Zero GX is absolutely awesome.
:(
But I still can't beat that goddamn Casino level on Story Mode
