Which is why the smarter ones amongst us mapped it (and numerous others) to 0.0.0.0 instead. I've yet to find a single IP stack where that isn't the network equivalent of/dev/null.
Except for a tcp stack derived from an ancient BSD that instead uses 0.0.0.0 as the broadcast address.
I remember a cover story in the late, great BYTE magazine (back when it was still in dead tree format) touting Netscape as the browser becoming the platform and making OSen essentially irrelevant. That was just a little before ms squished Netscape like a bug.
True, good point. But for IANAL folks, such as myself, the Groklaw analysis is a big value add to the raw filings. Without that, many of the court documents may as well be written in sanskrit.
Not to dis the Register, with their brief writeup dated today, but Groklaw had the story yesterday morning, including comprehensive analysis. To write that Groklaw "also has the story" is off the mark. Groklaw is, as usual, the preeminent primary source.
Probably not. Don't know what your frame relay connects to, other than various telco COs. Frame relay circuits can have several or even many endpoints, distinguished by their DCLIs (Data Link Connection Identifiers). One or more of those endpoints may be an ISP, but not necessarily.
Right. And the primary stations had a sealed envelope (I believe sent out monthly) with authenticator words for each date to validate the TTY messages. My recollection on specifics is fuzzy beyond that. I remember later when I worked at a secondary station our EBS box had a hair trigger - sometimes kicking on and putting Pittsburgh Pirates baseball broadcasts from KDKA, a primary in our area, onto our airwaves (until we quickly reset it).
...of the Emergency Broadcast System. Had this been an actual emergency, you would all be dead now. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System
More on topic though, it seems almost like they send the states whatever they have sitting in a warehouse without any rhyme or reason. A lot of those CDs *shouldn't* be in libraries imho.
Exactly. The record companies got over nicely with this so-called settlement. From the titles and quanitities cited in earlier articles, they basically shipped to the libraries crap they couldn't sell and would have been otherwise shipping to landfills.
I've noticed several high traffic Yahoo finance boards haven't seen any new posts since 1:13pm EDT. That's 5 hours now - no posts on msft, ibm, scox, to name a few (where normally there would be at least several dozens of posts on each of those boards in that span).
You say you had the surgery today and "I can already read things at distances that my parents and brother cannot, and my vision hasn't even cleared up yet, the way that it is supposed to." That's not exactly a helpful testimonial.
a.) your vision hasn't cleared up yet - well I sure hope it does.
b.) keep in mind that many people who encounter serious vision problems after laser surgery, report improved vision at first, followed days, weeks or months later by extreme, possibly uncorrectable, vision problems.
I do hope you'll be one of the lucky majority, but please don't "highly recommend" this procedure based on your same day excitement.
That's what they make UPSen and generators for. But seriously, while it's a given that the Olympics data centers and IT infrastructure would be backed by a fleet of trailer-mounted gennies, I wonder if they do have enough backup power in place at each venue to fully power lighting and such. That'll be a lot of of generators.
The mind boggles at what it is all going to cost - but I'm sure their advertising revenue will make it worth their while.
The networks generally lose millions on the olympic broadcasts - it's a prestige thing for them. Maybe they gain some small advantage in viewership for subsequent sports programming.
Oh, you for mean for programming projects only

I was hoping it was a project management system, not a programming project management tool, not a java thing. Nothing to see here for me; I'll move along now.
...laws prohibiting the use of those words in publicly broadcasted TV have been on the books for god knows how long.Incorrect. The law and FCC regulations have always been vague regarding what consitutes obscenity (not to be confused with mere indecency, which is permissable). Several court cases and FCC administrative proceedings over the years have done little to clarify.
Many, many tech companies don't pay dividends on stock (albeit in a liot of cases because they've yet to see their first thin dime of profit), however MS *does* pay dividends. Their first dividend was 8 cents in early 2003 and more recently they paid 16 cents.
Anytime the software detects motion other than just grass growing, crotch scratching and tobacco spitting - that's a highlight. This will still make for a very brief highlight reel for any given game.

Getting a server error message in place of the login box. It is going to be a long night at the 'plex as you say.

You posted AC just in case there is a god and he reads slashdot?
Is this a dup? I dunno, but Green Hills FUD was discussed on groklaw at great length over 3-1/2 months ago.

Down, not across. (motto of alt.sysadmin.recovery referring to best method of slashing one's wrists).
Uh, when you're out in public everything you do is subject to observation by the public. That's why it's called public.

Public Interest Registry has been doing this since last September. Less than 5 minutes, according to their announcement.
