I took quite a bit of Physics courses in high school and college in the 70's, and most of the 'work' was done in metrics, but some in the English, so I have a good feel for both without resorting to conversions. This seems to be atypical though for most people.
This happened 50 years ago in the US with the 'reporting' done by Americans. They used the measurements of the place and time. There is no need to go back and convert everything to metric.
From the pictures the scouring of land up to 1720 ft was inconsistent over the entire bay. Only the one section right by Gilbert Inlet, just across from the rock slide seemed to be scoured that high. The 'largest tsunami' claim sounded more impressive until you read the article and see it was a fairly enclosed small area. Still pretty complete devastation for anything near the water's edge.
Yes I agree on the 'savings' since he's selling it for less.
My thinking was a little more along the lines of -- if he can make the Vetroleum for fifty cents a gallon, for example, but still sells it for $9.00 a gallon (to keep his promise) then he is really gouging the public, and not giving the public as good a deal as his promise would lead you to believe.
"to one day sell his gasoline for $1 less than the pump price for regular fuel, no matter what the cost. 'Even if it's $2 per gallon, I'll sell mine for $1,"
If gas is $10 a gallon he is promising to sell his for $9 a gallon (no matter how little it costs to produce). Not such a good deal now huh?
Of course the claim of near 100% burn efficiency raises a lot of red flags as to the veracity of the claims.
The Xanth series really got my daughter hooked on reading. I'd read 10-12 of the series when I was in College (all that were available at that time) and she's blown through the 30+ books that are now part of the series.

"Upon completion and settlement I will walk out of my home for the last time in just the clothes I am wearing, and carrying only my wallet and passport."
...and presumbly whatever money is paid for his life. Oh wait a minute, if you bought his life you get the money back because its now yours. Sounds almost like playing a country song backwards.
If its a crime of theft it would be against the ISP, by leaching off someone else you are depriving them of their revenue. Probably a moot point as its a crime either way.
A better analogy is sharing cake with well nourished and less-well or even undernourished students.
Both types are hungry, and in many cases the well nourished ones are even hungrier.
apparently the car was braking and trying to impede the pickup that was going too fast. The pickup swerved, clipping the car anyway, and ran into an oncoming school bus (with no students on board.) Alcohol was found not to be a factor.
1. I did not say the person saw something and applied the brakes, causing the accident.
2. Seeing something and applying the brakes is a valid reason to brake.
3. Saying you saw something and braking only to teach the person behind you a lesson, is road rage, and is not a valid reason to brake.
4. By witness accounts the car intentionally applied the brakes to disrupt weaving in and out of traffic that the pickup was doing (I did say the pickup was driving irresponsibly).
5. Alcohol as not a factor.
6. The driver of the car has been charged (I believe a man in this case)
I was tempted to brake hard. My car has fouur very large disks and stops in half the distance of any other car I've owned.
Someone just did that here in Michigan a couple of months ago. The moron in the car intentionally braking hard caused an accident with a pickup and a school bus, killing three of the four teenagers in the pickup. The pickup was being driven irresponsibly as well. I believe the car driver has been charged with man-slaughter.

This presumes that people in the future will be stupider than we are now...
Which is really quite a stretch.

The driver did survive and I believe is being charged as well.
