What's crazy to me is that they use this expensive technology to just crudely burn weed. For less than $500 you can get a good vaporizer that's still expensive, but is less wasteful and healthier. It also allows everyone to share fresh greens... or so I've heard. Less mess and cleanup too.
Full disclosure: I'm a big gamer and I do play proprietary games on Windows.
His philosophy brushing aside your argument that it's hard for game devs to make money selling Free software games is a feature, not a bug. His goal is for software *users* to have total control and freedom over the software that they choose to run. If a proprietary game studio shutters for whatever reason, that's a good thing thing in his eyes because that means there's one less group of people out there trying to restrict the freedom of software users.
Just because doing the right thing is hard doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.
I am reading some of the silliest excuses in this thread. That VR has to be perfect, there's no porn in VR, there's no haptic feedback, it's not dirt cheap, it can't be developed incrementally.
VR doesn't have to be perfect, it has to be good enough which it is. The resolution is starting a bit slow but there is more than one serious product on the market in competition with each other. Higher resolution VR headsets are being developed, and incremental VR development is underway which someone else here said was impossible.
There are a good amount of games for VR, especially considering how new the platform is.
The manufacturers won't allow porn? Do you really think they can keep porn off their headsets? My dick is virtually raw (see what I did there?)
"VR isn't easy to do unlike watching TV". OK, nothing else on a computer or game console is. When I play VR, here's what I do: Start the game, turn on each controller, put on the headset. That's it, it's easy.
"There's no haptic feedback" that's a lie, there is haptic feedback. You have a crappy system if you don't have that.
"VR isn't cheap" it's relatively cheap, especially for what's basically 1st gen new technology.
"You can't see the controllers" what?! Firstly, yes you can sometimes. Secondly, a well-designed controller doesn't need to be seen. Do you look at your keyboard while you type? Do console gamers look to make sure they're hitting the right button?
There are however 2 points that I'll concede: Some people to get motion sickness and that's a serious problem that devs and engineers can only do so much to fix. Hopefully there will be better drugs developed to combat this so we can move into a badass cyberpunk reality. The other one is that (sometimes) people play games to chill and don't want to be active. That's fair enough, I'm even too lazy for VR sometimes even though it's rarely a real workout.
You know, I've thought a bit about the argument "we can't bring everyone here, those people need to fix things at HOME and stay there....."
Why can't we? Let's say your worst fear is realized and we allow mass immigration from these countries. These people would be here and not there, participating in our economy and not the economy of a corrupt and/or incompetent leader. Isn't that a good thing? Maybe America could buy the land or make them a territory ala Puerto Rico down the road.
Why is your solution to this problem the only valid one?
While I do understand and appreciate that point of view, there's one little thing that pushes me over the edge from agnosticism to atheism that I think is worth considering: the source of the belief in gods.
Put another way, say I insist that The Matrix is literally the true and the reality that we live in. You might say that it's a possibility that we're all living in a simulation and The Matrix could be true as we've seen no evidence to suggest one way or the other. The reason one should doubt The Matrix is literally true is because we know it's a Hollywood movie with writers, directors, and actors telling a story.
Full disclosure: I used to work for a Southern California limo company that occasionally contracted with Diva.
I think it's good that Diva is doing this as they're really sticking up for the whole industry (hence the class action including several companies). To be a chauffeur and to run a transportation company, there are laws, regulations, and yes bureaucracy involved. The company I worked for and any other non-fly-by-night company follows these laws and pays the fees and get all kinds of licenses and insurance. It's not fair that Uber can show up to the scene and ignore the laws and play dumb while competing with existing companies that follow the rules.
That being said, I don't think Uber really affected our business as the company I worked for was more high-end. We wouldn't pick up drunk people at a moment's notice or do school dances and such.
I've used both and I'm a big fan of VLC and recommend it to people. That being said I use mpv on Linux and Windows because it's good and minimal which is similar to MXplayer. I seem to remember VLC playing certain videos badly and MXplayer played it smooth so I bought it with my free google play credit. MXplayer is minimal with no bullshit (yet) and easy to use. That being said, I haven't really used it in a year or two as I don't really watch videos on my phone anymore. I'm obviously not happy about this news and of course this is risk you take with proprietary software. If they pushed a change like this onto me I'd uninstall it and not miss it at this point.
You said that these older conflicts were all out war, and that the more recent ones were regular war. How does this excuse the bad things that happened more recently?
You're comparing apples and oranges. Why should we compare the Dresden bombing and the Battle of Verdun to something that was not war? Yes, bad shit happens in war, but we've never been at war with Iraq. That makes the bad shit that happened even worse!
I did a spit take when I read "Dota 2 is a complicated game". Starcraft is a complex game. Sure there are 100 heroes in Dota, but only 10 of them can be on the field at once (I think, I don't play it so please correct me if I'm wrong). In Starcraft you can have more than 400 units on the field at once, all doing different directed actions.

Kids are dumb as hell, who cares what they think?

"Sure he beats me sometimes, but I know he does it because he loves me!"
Surfaces are great... for the first 3 months until some of the hardware randomly decides to stop working.

Or at least delete MY shadow profile! Forget everyone else's!
Is that even necessary? Isn't it obvious that they're nuts and not the majority?
This is great! I've had way too much control for years at this point!
How will you defeat hard disk encryption?
That's great but you won't renew me as a customer ever since you put rootkits in music CDs.
You said that these older conflicts were all out war, and that the more recent ones were regular war. How does this excuse the bad things that happened more recently?
Fox News is the RNC's propaganda arm. MSNBC is the DNC's propaganda arm. CNN is the CIA's propaganda arm.
You're comparing apples and oranges. Why should we compare the Dresden bombing and the Battle of Verdun to something that was not war? Yes, bad shit happens in war, but we've never been at war with Iraq. That makes the bad shit that happened even worse!
It's not so much laughing at geeks, it's laughing at science. Wisecrack did an excellent breakdown on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxFPmF1puW4
"as specifically required by ... any applicable third party license terms accompanying the Software"
Debian packages the software and redistributes it with the GPL, Intel now has to has to abide by the GPL!
I didn't RTFA until I posted like a newb, the first compatible game they list is BeatSaber!
This is exciting news! Any word on VR games?
"One of the things that happens when you're super successful is you sort of sometimes lose touch with what made you successful in the first place,"
Great, does this means their getting back in touch with their origins and using illegal tactics to hurt competitors?
