I was once a WebTV user, before and through the time that Bill Gates bought it (he gave us copy and paste). It was one of my first internet experiences and I genuinely enjoyed it, I even used irc heavily at that time without knowing it. This was probably 10 years ago though.
Anyway, the point I want to make is that you can't do much security-wise with WebTV. There is no third party software. Period. You dial up, it downloads updates every now and then, and you use their browser, their mail client, their everything with no choice (except for web-based stuff). The only thing to watch out for is phishing scams.
Who would have thought that a WebTV user would mature to a Linux addict?
You gotta play the Devil's advocate: Doesn't FireFox do the same thing when it comes across a plugin that it doesn't have? It takes you to Java or Flash or whoever's site to download the plugin to display the content. It's all about making smart choices and knowing what to accept and what to deny, which is still hard for the average user.
P.S. I hate Windows Media Player so much that I use mplayer on my one windows box:)
Remember when the United States Computer Emergency Response Team (US CERT) recommended using against using Internet Explorer? When that happened Secunia issued a statement essentially defending IE, saying it's problems aren't that bad. I promptly fired off an email (mainly an angry rant) about "How can you say that? You of all people should know that using a different browser is a good idea! It's in your interest that your customers use IE and have troubles!"
I got an email back saying that there are always vulnerabilities in everything, CERT went over the top with their advisory.
We aren't talking about desktop computers, we're talking about computers, period, namely those connected to the internet. Why should all the Apache servers on the net not count?
Todd: You know, there were some small things that I really took to heart during SP2. I hated the fact that Internet Explorer didn't have a pop-up blocker. To me, it made pre-SP2 browsing on the Web just a nuisance.
Internet Explorer makes post-SP2 browsing on the web much more than a nuisance!
The Times Person of the Year is not necessarilly a person who has been benevolent to society. He/She is simply the person that got the most press and is the most talked about and controversial person.
As a Bush hater, I think he fully deserves that title.
I hear they call it a "chercher with cheese".
At least he's not a moran.
I can't understand...
Why you can't speaking fucking English! Fuck!

Teach kids a lesson: don't touch other people's shit!
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/galaxy
It'll stop being reported when Microsoft isn't a huge player in the game, when we don't have to worry about it anymore.
Our world becomes darker, as we now have to start much more heavily policing outgoing mail.
Who would have thought that outgoing mail restrictions would have to be put into place to stop spam?
If this ever happens, maybe the public will realize how desperate celebrities are.
Wouldn't you question a person running from the paparazzi and talking about how much of a nuisance they are when they could just blur their own faces?
Until Netcraft confirms it, I won't believe it.
Don't have kids. They're expensive.
For fuck's sake, The Gimp isn't supposed to be on par with Photoshop. It's almost like comparing mspaint to Photoshop.
as someone who just fixed a computer with AOL on it,
me too!
Sorry for being a poon-tard, I found the good stuff here.
Does anyone have a link or a torrent for the XenDemoCD referenced on their main page? It's not on their downloads page like the link implies.
Does anyone else think that they achieve their amazing speed from secret system calls?

Are you suggesting that we all use Linux because it is simple to use and makes our lives easier?
Are there any slashdotters willing to join my class action suit? We'll sue becuase Microsoft Admits XP Media Player Spies on Users.

Internet Explorer makes post-SP2 browsing on the web much more than a nuisance!SCO is saying that they own the code that the independent programmers are distributing, effectively calling the authors of Linux thieves.
