Yes, Windows is the surest sign of an easy compromise. Even this virus was designed for Windows. Nearly all the virus on goods coming from China are for Windows. It will remain that way as long as Windows is easy to crack and dominant. The fact that a number of EU countries, Russia, and China are switching their govs to Linux (and some mac) should have generated LOADS of virus for these systems IF it were easy. Do you see them? NOPE. Get past your silly prejudice and bias and look at the facts. Virus are written for easy targets that yield information.
The number 1 spy in America IS Chinese. They are VERY active. Nearly all of the spies that we have caught over the last 20 years, have been Chinese that are working in DOD or intel jobs who then send back data to mainland. The same is true in Canada, Australia, EU, and I suspect, Russia. Any place that has more advanced military secrets is being actively infiltrated.
Worse, we are not just sending our goods over there and having them come back loaded with virus, we continue to do so even KNOWING this. You may not have liked the tone of the parent, but it was still accurate.
If real, then yes, it is known where it originates from. Of course, that calls into question who controls all the gateways that packets go through. Just because a packet claims to have originated at a certain box and traveled a certain path, does not mean that it has.

By having access to that info, somebody in CHina or Russia could narrow suspects down. In fact, China has been at this for over a decade. The heat pump that you are talking about has the condensor in the air. That is a horrible choice because yes, parts of the east (and midwest) can hit -40F (or C). If you are heating to say 70F, then you are looking at 110F difference (or ~50C). That IS inefficient and you are better off just doing straight heat from electricity.
But a geo-thermal HVAC is different. The condensor is piping that is 5-10' down in the ground. The temps are around 55-60F. IOW, you are pulling with maybe 18F/5C range. That is EXTREMELY efficient. In fact, if American were on these, our cooling in the summer would use something like 25% less electricity and our heat bill for the majority of the US would be a fraction of what it is. Even here in Colorado, a front range home who spends 150 for gas heating (a cold month) would expect to only pay about 50-60 for the heating.
One of the nice things about this, is most of the east coast's fuel oil actually comes from Venezula. If the east coaster would switch to this, we would see our imports from Venezuela drop to about 1/4 to 1/3 of the current amount (Venezuela oil is apparently low grade with lots of sulfur in it; pretty much used for diesel and home heating oil). BTW, EU makes heavy use of Russian natural gas for heating (which is why these games come into being during these times). The best thing that the west can do is move homes to geo-thermal and for American insulate better.
The money will likely be coming from China, and if these are driving clunkers due to lack of cash, they will have to buy the lowest end car; That is NOT big-3. It is Chinese or Korean. We are likely to see China (and maybe tata) rush in with cars. Since China and India have trade barriers in place (not 2 way trading), any sale of vehicles really does not help America, let alone jumpstart the global economy.

Look at the region where it is from and put the tax on according to the amount of pollution that is produced there. Again this MUST be time incremental. I would much rather see that and give up the kyoto and all that other silliness.

I am sure that it is different, but still. When I am coding in C, I want it at the OS. When doing an App, I prefer C++, Perl or Java. They are both taking different paths. Yeah, they have to come together on core things, but still, that is a different matter.
Configuration usage is a different issue from libraries. The libraries are SLOWLY coming together. It will take time to get both groups to agree which tech to share.
