I just filled up yesterday, $2.43/gal Toledo, Ohio...
I could of used my "Kroger" card (Grocery Store that offers "Fuel Perks") and got $.20/gal off! (I forgot I had it still to use... DAH!)
But, before we start a gas price thread, just remember how much of that is Federal and State taxes.
For Ohio, out of the $2.439/gal, $0.464/gal is taxes. So REAL gas is $1.975/Gal Of that $0.464, 0.28/gal is STATE tax, and $0.184/gal is federal taxes
California is $0.650 total tax for the state, so if federal is $0.184/gal, then you state of California is getting $0.466/gal taxes... Your in the red on the following map:
" and they took twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us."
This is particularly good news in the wake of another report that food-based biofuels could cause hunger."
They JUST figured this out!!!????
This is the problem with the green lords... they don't think ahead of the unintended consequences!
I've HATED Corn based ethanol for YEARS... Everyone would point to some country in South America (Brazil?) about how good Ethanol was and the amount of fuel created etc... But that was end of process SUGAR CANE! NOT a major food source!
I think the problem is mental capacity... If sex is acceptable if consensual, at what age is the consensual sex approved with full knowledge of the act, consequences, ect. Is there a mental capacity at 11 to consent? No
There are many legal precedents that set the age of consent for various legal items, contracts, military service, voting, drinking, driving, etc... These are the basis of some of our societial norms. Without them, we would break down (and I say we are already with the blurring of many lines, but I digress...)
SEX is also unofficially there in the list, by punishing those that would take advantage of someone who does not quite have the assumed mental capacity you should have at a certain age. (Varies by state I believe) But I feel that the physical act can over come the emotional stops that society may place on the act. therefore it is easy to manipulate someone that cannot distinguish between something that is "wrong" verses it feels good, so it must be good.
So, just because it is consensual doesn't mean the child had all the tools to make a decision based on anything other than it felt good and the person is nice to me. That is just plain wrong no matter how you may try to argue it.
Sounds like the 'Patriot Act' is due to be renewed. Or parts of it.. I guess they are gonna cram it into the "jobs" bill along with a lot of other payoffs. If you don't like this invation of our privacy, and you blamed Bush for the patriot act, etc, this is your chance to call Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office or your local senator. We expected change, not pushing the same-ol'-same-ol'. KILL THE PATRIOT ACT NOW! We CAN do this.
Oops.. wrong Emanual, it was his brother. My bad. Google the "Complete lives system"
What the heck is "similar" to trisomy 21? Down's syndrome is not a subtle genetic alteration, it's a whole extra copy of a chromosome.
They don't know what it is. It is related to the Trisomy 21 gene. They had similar facial features, both have the simian crease extended across the palm. Genetic testing didn't match known patterns at this time. Thanks for your concern.
"Lots of people probably don't mind "the government" keeping their DNA on file....
I mind... The last grovernment that tried to use genetics to modify it's society of illness didn't have the technology, so they just resorted to gassing millions of the "unfit" to protect the chosen.
If you kill the baby before birth because of a genetic code defect, it is the same result. Just less gas and mass of bodies, but the results are the same. Case in point, both my children had Downs Syndrome like symptoms. If the "lives" program were implemented as suggested by Rahm Emanuel then I would not have two wonderful children. Did they have downs? Nope, just similar gene issues, but mentally they are higher than their peers.
Now granted, the PDF references the DBS (Dried Blood Spot) test, but the in womb testing was also pushed by the gyny before the children were born along with "Counseling"... Pretty "standard" test from talking to other parents. You have the option to opt-out, but one could easily see that option being eliminated if the "cost" could be justified by the long term health care savings of the terminated "unfit" pregnancies.
Even our current president stated:
I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby.
But I guess he wouldn't want to teach them to take responsiblities for their actions... no reason to teach that anymore.
Am I the only one that feels that this is backwards?
...don't worry, the free market will save the universe (by making it so damned expensive to live here that corporations will arise and find us other universes to exploit, naturally...)
Way I see it is that proposed cap and trade taxes will make it too expensive to live in this universe... Sure, they want to start out here at home, then a global treaty, next will be the universal treaty for taxing energy use. I'd hate to see what the tax rate is on all that "FREE" sunshine from our local star. Once the Intersteller cap and trade program goes into effect, I think we are all better off with a towel.
This is why the federal goverment should control the salery structure of all lawyers. Obviously they used the over-priced lawyer to type the letter.
If they CAP Lawyer saleries at somewhere in the $200K/Year range, then they would not have generated a $400,000 letter. At most they would generate a $68.50 for an hour of letter writing, and maybe 1 hour for research (gotta wait for the computer to boot, etc..) So the total lawyer fee under the new plan would be around $136, plus postage. That is assuming that the lawyer would work 365 days a year/ 8hrs a day, to give the hourerly salery of $68.50.
With the $400,000 current rate, the lawyer that wrote the letter should be earning $584,000,000/Yr. YES, that is 584MILLION to write letters 8 hours a day, 365 days. Sounds just as bad as those banks CEO's... Hmm...
Of course they have to pay their taxes still... Who asked that? Tim, is that you?
But now if I hunt someone down and murder them and get diagnosed as a schizo, then I can blame it on the virus in my head that controlled me. Instant "Get-out-of-Jail-Free" card for 1000's of individuals... I wondered how Arnold was gonna cut costs on prisons and focus on Education.... Now it is starting to become clear.

It was too small to see in the article, but I didn't see Braille on the buttons to tell a (True) visually impared person where to touch... Also, If they can't see to read, etc, how can they read the instructions that are on the screen?
The thought is nice, but I don't think well thought out... Kinda like Braille on the ATM in the drive through lane at the bank, WTF?
Idiots.. This is already a pandemic! H1N1 (or "hini" as I like to call it.. (c) 2009) is ALREADY a PANDEMIC. There has been cases of the H1N1 on every contentent except for Antartica...
"A pandemic (from Greek pan "all" + demos "people") is an epidemic of infectious disease that is spreading through human populations across a large region; for instance a continent, or even worldwide"
HIV is a pandemic, the internet didn't crash because of that. Hini won't crash it either... people get sick all the time and some will die, an equal # will get well and have to go back to work.
This whole hini thing reminds me more of chicken little than anything else. Life happens and people die. sometimes the people that die are not just old people. Get over it and move on with your life, stop feeling guilty for being alive in a country that even during a depression is richer than most 3rd world countries that are ruled by dictators and theocrats.
My son and daughter both had skull surgeries... while not replacement parts, they used a "sugar based polymer" screw to hold the bone plates together while the skull was healing. The cool part of that was that eventually they were absorbed into the same plates that they anchored. Pretty cool tech. Now, I'm assuming there is a strengh issue that would eliminate that polymer combo from use in broken bones, but a skull doesn't do any work or scaffolding of the body, so I guess the screw would him limited strengh compared to this glass? Neat stuff.
Now, $71,428.58 Per home / 20 years = $3,741.43 PER YEAR COST OF SPACE ENERGY!
YIKES! REALLY!! PASS...
20 Years life expectancy of solar cells guessed at because of various googles and the chance of an astroid taking the whole thing out... and then you'd have to reinvest the next $21Billion for the next batch..
If it went longer than 20 years, it would lower costs, but not it is really too much of an outlay for 294,000 homes. quick lookup gives me around $600-700/yr... So that is like 5 times what I pay for normal ohio electric (mostly coal...)
Don't know how much to build Nuclear and how many homes... Anyone? We could burn the waste in the next generation reactors if we get a bunch up and running now...
It's really amazing what those muggles will come up with trying to duplicate wizarding technology... I just hope they can't duplicate flue powder or the Five Elves delivery and expiditing CO would be done out for sure.
"He says that when we get thrilled about the world of ideas, about making intellectual connections, about divining meaning, it is the seeking circuits that are firing"
Hmmm... Intellectual Connections, Nope, That doesn't explain facebook or twitter... NEXT!
Hmm... It looks like the cost is mainly contributable to the appeals system. I've seen video of exicutions in China where they don't cost too much for a gun, a bullet, a soldier. (No, I'm not advicating a military takeover of our justice system. Just an example of followthrough.) So I don't believe you can honestly say the Death Row inmates cost more as apposed to life in prison, but I think you could state that the apeal system is seriously flawed. Where an inmate can continually taunt the family of the dead victim by makeing them relive the details of the murder of their family member year after year. etc...
Seriously, it only costs soo much more because of the appeals. We've lost the "Justice should be swift" that our criminal prosicution system was built on. We no longer have a deterant for murder. (Or most crimes, for that matter...)
WHERE in your calculations do you account for cost of installation?
Where is your cost of batteries for non-sunny days?
Where is your ongoing maintenance costs? (Someone has to climb up and clean the panels occasionally!)
What if you live in a valley?
Solar may be nice in certain areas, but it is not as efficient as you portray it to be. You state 18 years of free energy over a 30 year life span... Where are your facts to back this up? I want to see some REAL figures! Oh, and don't even bother to include government incentives! That's not fair math, that's fuzzy math!
This does not have to be a "No Nukes", solar and wind only argument, but if you are presenting it like that, then bring the facts to the table. ALL energy sources are needed, not one size fits all.
Is wind really "free"? If we install enough wind turbines, wouldn't we slow the spin of the earth because of the collective resistance of the turbines?
Personally, I look forward to loosing the extra weight when we hit zero-G because of the spin stopping, but thats just me.;)
There is also the "Size" issue... I think I read on Marcy Kaptur's(D-Oh) website the Lake Erie is the "Saudia Arabia" of wind power. It's gonna look kinda funny when ships can't get around and recreational boating is stopped because of people running into big turbines out in the lake... Not to mention the issues of building it in the lake, carbon created in the build process and installation process, etc..
BTW, they are going to announce tomorrow a "Temporary" moritorium on hardrock mining around the grandcanyon. What were they looking to mine? Uranium, the fuel needed by Nuclear reactors. *** Before you get upset, NO the mines were not staked right at the edge of the grandcanyon. (Which, surprisingly doesn't have a fence around it, talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen!)
"Are you worried about your excesive carbon footprint? Come look at the wonder of this nuclear plant near the great grandcanyon."
"And racist PEOPLE are news because??? Also, how is this tech news other than the fact that someone used the internet?"
There, I fixed that for you...
Really, Have you looked at the site? When I first heard about this, I went over and looked... It would be the same as saying Cowboy Neal is a racist because of the AC's that post racist coments on/. You cannot BAN a group of people from a website, it deliberatly flies in the face of free speech rulings. AND you cannot hold a site liable for the post of the people that may post there.
The worst alligation I saw was that the administrator of the site may be an officer and supposedly (although he denies it) there was site administration done on office computers. (But was it on his own time? Lunch, breaks??) The closest they got is mis-use of work resource. that does not make a hostile work environment, The comments by someone @ work are the hostile people, IF they exist.
