Those that do would rather now download losslessly encoded audio anyway. I didn't hear about lossless encoding being available—only 320kbps static bitrate in addition to 128kbps that is currently offered. Can you provide a link?
I think YouTube is probably covered by safe harbor clause in the DMCA that has been mentioned by others, but to a lesser extent they are probably going to be helped by the Betamax precedent which stated that video recorders offered substantial non-infringing uses and are therefore admissible. The difference was that Napster had almost zero non-infringing uses.
cut a[sic] my way through virgin jungle Who are you kidding? Nobody on/. is cutting their way through a vigin's jungle. Thanks, I'll be here all night.:P
The ads are also aimed less at the consumer and more at doctors; doctors are the ones that have to prescribe it, after all, so they have to learn about it before patients start asking about it. Otherwise the patients will think the doctor is uninformed. I disagree. I can't think of a single drug commercial that markets to doctors. Every single one narrates to the patient and vaguely alludes to what symptoms they can expect it to solve. Also of note is the fact that there is usually a 15-30 second disclaimer about side-effects at the end, which is not terribly necessary for a doctor to hear in the commercial if it is just trying to get them to go find out more about it in order to prescribe it to their patients. Even more damning of your claim is the fact that the commercials even specify to "talk to your doctor about this."
There are already laws that are intended to protect children from entering personal information into web sites. Have a look at COPPA. Whether or not you find these types of laws effective does not change the fact that new ones won't help the situation.
...ridiculous wireless service flame war. I totally understand the motivation of fanboy-ism, but I am just so tired of the console/wireless/editor/distro/OS flame wars. They always say the same things and nobody makes any progress. Can we give it a rest?
My experience matches exactly, except that at the time I was going through school everyone was in the process of upgrading from TI-82 to TI-83 and TI-85 to TI-86.
it's like a high performace, expensive engine in a pinto station wagon - what good is it? Your analogy would only work if you were trying to say that the design of the PS3 was chintzy.
No. The fact that much of the federal government is no longer directly responsible to its constituents is, in my opinion, the biggest issue facing our nation in the next century. What recourse is there for change? The options are growing smaller slowly and surely.
According to TFA, this does not yet support 16:9 aspect ratio. Presumably that also means it doesn't support HD content. I wasn't clear if this is supposed to be a new DVR solution, but if so, then it needs to support HD and 16:9 before I'd consider it.
LOL! I guarantee almost everything you said about consumers carries across all industries. You just happened to be in wireless. You should probably generalize your observations a little further, and then promise yourself you will never work in retail (especially technology) again. In all fairness though, for some people other factors do come into play of which 'teh hotness' is only one.:D
Why shouldn't people be free to set their page up how they like it? I think you are failing to understand the purpose/draw of the site to a certain degree. Don't get me wrong, I despise the piss poor design of MySpace and the ridiculous profile themes people set up there, but I am certainly glad they are free to express themselves.
I would rather keep things closed until they're necessary, thereby reducing the clutter of my workspace(s) and dedicating the maximum amount of resources to my active process(es). Less is more, IMHO.
Link? :P
I took their willingness to work with the Mozilla folks, and the already released Linux player as an indication that we may see a FreeBSD version. If not officially, perhaps some work by projects like this will suffice.
Maybe not at the moment, but it looks to be coming also.

I hope you were trying to be ironic with your comment title.

Maybe I missed something. Why is the Zune becoming more attractive?
You would be incorrect, haha. There are always a few lunatic zealots in every crowd.
In my opinion, there is a point at which complexity outstrips any gains from separation. Just keep it simple; dev, staging, production.

Welcome to the Libertarian point of view. :)
