  1. Re:More half ass BS from 1up on Nintendo Quarterly Profits Down 80% · · Score: 1

I don't know why everyone bashes double dash, apparently, me and my friends are the only people that love it (and I would be willing to accept that). Maybe it helps that I'm a college student and live with 3 of my friends, so we can pick up and go with it. My Cube also sees more play than any of my other systems, Paper Mario, Windwaker, Resident Evil 4, and the Primes are great single player games, and offline multi player is the best, with great games like Zelda 4 swords, crystal chronicals, and my favorite multiplayer of the year X-men ledgends was even ported. Heck, even the cracked out WarioWare is fun. Maybe I'm getting old, but beating hookers doesn't do it for me.

  2. No mention of lan parties... on State of the U.S. Arcade Industry 2004 · · Score: 2, Insightful

First off the article did an amazing job of pointing out the situation of the arcades right now. But one thing that I personally feel affects the US arcade situation is lan parties and/or the reason American gamers enjoy them so much. The lan parties occur in largely suburban/small city/ college campus locations, where people in the US tend to live. Lan parties allow users to us exactly the same hardware/software/ect that they practice on, something I know many gamers enjoy, however this requires you to haul your gear blocks, or miles. additionally lan parties consist of mostly friends and friends of friends, making the odds of hard feelings over a loss alot lower. Arcades on the other hand offer a large number of multiplayer games in a small space, something of value in japan, they work well in a more urban environment, and they offer a chance to compete against strangers, and build rivalries. And then dont require you to move your own gear, something thats pretty hard to do via train/foot. Does this mean I think that arcades are doomed? Hell no. But I do believe there is partial overlap in there potential participants. I love arcades, I love lan parties, but I do think that the arcade is much more at home in Japan than the US, and vice versa with lan parties.

  3. Interesting, but maybe too gimmicky on Nintendo's Mystery DS Portable Revealed · · Score: 1

One thing about Nintendo as of late is they've done some interesting things in terms of innovative hardware. At first when i heard about linking gamecube and and GBA, I thought it was the most idiodic idea ever, however; after Playing windwaker Coopratively i think its a fun and innovative idea.

I think at first we might see a lot of one screen being your perspective, and the second being your map, but I'm sure there will be some truely interesting games for it.

It does worry me that the ds is being marketed seperatly from the gba ... Im getting these funny VirtualBoy flashbacks. In my experience, no portable counsole stands up to the Gameboy... no matter how superior it may (NeoGeoPocket) or maynot(the aformentiong VB) be.

However that said, and my condolences to his lost PCs, if he is resposible for stealing the HL2 code, he kinda did deserve it, because I for one am a little pissed about the delay, and if he's guilty I guess karma(and not the /. kind) is biting him in the ass. I don't really care if Valve was using Outlook, If i hang a bed sheet over my door, and you walk in and take my stuff, you're still breaking and entering, even if the bedsheet wasn't the most secure door I could have used.

"The really funny part is that Saddam was fighting those shiites leader. For our safety, it would have been better to keep Saddam or at least keep the old regime." So what you're saying is you would rather have a leader that attacks his nieghbors and commits genocide on his own people, that risk having a religious man at the helm of a country? Well, if thats your opinion, lets ship Saddam here, that way he can run against Bush, and beat back our oppresive Christian regime.

  6. Its an all around failure ok? on Kids Kill, Victim Sues Game Maker · · Score: 3, Interesting

This is my opinion, so to put that into context, this is me. I hunt, i own guns, i played video games since i was little, violent ones since they existed, I was of medium popularity in highschool, although we wore metal band t-shirts and baggy pants. Did any of those things make me want to shoot at traffic? No. The fact is that even though i personally have no problems with guns, I feel that these children obviously should not have had access to them. The same goes for GTA, as great a game as it is for most, its now painfully clear that access should have been denied. If, while i was a teenager, I ran around mimicing video games, My parents probable would not have allowed me to use firearms. If I began to act out oddly because of video games, they probably would have taken them away. And if i showed signs of depression, They probably would have gotten me counsoling. Did any of that happen? No. The parents failed. The M rating on a game is desinged to preven people who might be negativly affected by a game from getting it. Did that happen? No. ESRB Failed. The legal age for purchasing guns, and the mandatory inclusion of gun locks with firearms is designed to prevent kids from shooting things. Did that happen? No. Gun control failed too. I dont believe that this happend because video games brain wash our kids. I dont believe this happend because we need stricter gun controll laws. And i dont think this is because the parents neglected they're kids 24/7. what happened is the parents DID neglect the game rateing when the game was purchased, they DID neglect to lock guns and amunition and make the keys inacceable to the children, and they did Neglect to see what their kids were doing at the time that this occured. Why doesnt this happen in other countries? I dont know maybe we have too much freedom here, but i doubt that. Why didnt the kids have enough common sense not to do this? i dont know, maybe they have a learning disability. The Bottom line is this, EVERY ONE FAILED. The system is full of precautions and gaurds agaist things like this, but they're all too often neglected. Had the parents or the store heeded the rating, had the parents locked the guns, had the parents been there, perhaps this all could have been prevented. WE FAILED, I FAILED, YOU FAILED, THE ESRB FAILED, THE PARENTS FAILED. Now everyone buck up and take some resposibility.

If I recall correctly, didn't they either trademark, or patent the label on the icon already. Which is why windows says "recycle bin" instead, and why it is locked as recycle bin and to change it you need to edit the registry. I might be wrong on that one, since the source was my highschool computers teacher, but it seems plausible, especially now.

  8. Arcade Dead? on Sega Merges With Pachinko Company Sammy · · Score: 5, Interesting

From what I've been hearing the past couple of years, arcades are about dead(true from what I've seen too). I really don't think it would make sence for Sammy to push Sega tward the Arcade again. Especially when Sega is establishing itself as a third party developer for counsels. On the other hand, Sega does make a few games that would be cool in arcades(Panzer Dragoon, anyone?). Just curious if anyone else thinks arcade develpment is dead (whimpers, remembering "killer instinct" machines)

Actually Deep Junior would probably wipe the floor with the people who programed it. I believe the team consisted of 2-4 programmers, and a Grandmaster. So the Grandmaster(or is is supposed to be Grand Master?) shows the programers the possible moves from a situation and the possible outcomes, seems like a ton of information right? thats why it takes a "deep" class computer time to think about it, it has litterally millions of options which it has to weigh depending on what must be a very coplicated ranking system. However the person programming it(or the grandmaster for that matter) are limited to only the moves that they can imagine, and they're judgement. Since the machine they programed is likely to have been tweaked in matches against the grandmaster from the design team, it most likely going to be at a level far above his by the time it is "completed". Thats what makes these matches interesting, a group of men create a machine that would most likely woop all of them combined, and pit it against the number one human player.

From the pics I've seen I must say that, yes their version is infact red.

But my question is can the consumer really sue over this? We all know you can be sold crippled cds without warning(a whole nother argument). So my question is, what are the grounds of the lawsuit? Since they purchased the DVD for their region, one could say they knew it wouldn't neccisarily be identical to the US one. And the artists haven't spoken out to my knowlege(correct me if im wrong). So that leaves me to believe that the Disney machine will monkey stop them in court. Of course why not sue a large company like disney if you have a slight chance?

Anyway for the record: I agree it sucks that their version is a little red. I Would like to know if they can/should really sue over this.
