Just because you're flooded with brighter and better minds, doesn't mean that the rest of the world is experiencing any drain. It's just that they're relatively so much brighter and better than you.
It really cracks me up that the US would sooner send their young ones to die in pointless wars than let them have a beer.
Guess it really sucks to be you. Here you can buy beer from the age of 16, and you're not sent into imperialistic wars, only to die in a cold trench, long from home and without any beer.
.. and with the release of a Nmap version that performs version detection on services.. hm.
That's the fundamental problem with tools like, Nmap. While they might be good tools for the good guys, they're also terrible tools in the wrong hands.
Anybody else heard rumours of this exploit a couple of months ago? Seems like somebody have tried to keep the lid on this.
Nmap is a superb tool for scanning large networks. Could that be abused? Yes, but so what? Should we banish cars, since they can be used in bank heists? Should LSD be illegal, just because a large percentage of the population is retarded?
Want a list of machines that's infected with msblast? Nmap your network.
Want a list of machine that are vulnerable to the latest rdp hole in Windows? Nmap your network.
Want a list of servers running an exploitable ssh version? Nmap your network.
Any good administrator of any reasonably sized network, should know and use nmap.
However, I don't think that Darl McBride needs to be stupid (maybe even the opposite). That he is greedy and egoistic (or maybe he is doing this for his fellow shareholders, maybe he's trying to compensate them for their losses from SCO) is another thing entirely.
Venturing even further off topic.. it ticks me off that the number one criticism of GWB is that he is stupid. It does not matter how smart or stupid he is. People must realise that. If he is genuinely stupid, then he is a puppet. If he's not stupid, his agendas are just very different from the rest of world.
And then they don't get a work visa if you don't want them to get one?
What on earth are you on about?
My point was this; almost all countries are very liberal in their student visa policies. Students usually generate a lot of revenue, whilst not being a great source of expenditure.
Visas with work permits are something entirely different.
Do you seriously think that any of this research really would make a difference to a terrorist or not?
How much high tech did it take to fly two planes into two buildings? The planes, that's it. And it's not like they even built the planes themselves.
Security by obscurity is not the way to go. Anybody who has any experience in real life with security (be it physical security, or more abstract as in network security) knows that security by obscurity is nothing more than a pillow to sleep on for those who are trying to protect themselves.
And when that "security" measure is hindering science.. I don't think I have to spell it out for you.
I don't see all the open authoring tools, or even fully working plugins for other browsers than IE though. Not very good, considering how much flash is in use, and how long it has been open.
SVG is XML which means that you only need nano or edlin to author it.
Binary formats for something like vector graphics, might have been smart eight years ago, when most users were on 9600 dialup, and computers were very short on memory.
Not saying that everything should bloat, but for things like svg, xml is the way to go.
Like some famous guy said when ActiveX was first released (quoted in Wired I think): "The only active supporters of ActiveX, are active criminals".
This will actually be very good for competing browsers, as Microsoft will lose one one stranglehold. Things like Windowsupdate will probably work in Mozilla and Opera too.
Or maybe they will just invent another proprietary protocol..
Over here we have debit cards (with almost unlimited credit, which is interest free for two months). If you overshoot your credit and don't pay, you will get a textual remark that must be removed after two years. No points or anything.
They have begun keeping seperate databases with late payers though. Or rather, they register people who don't have money problems, but still don't pay their bills.
Not even are they missing a graphical installer, they don't even have any ridiculous slogans or meaningless pr mumbo jumbo while installing.
So fucking pre 95.

Stupid troll

Aremcinas are the sukcs.
Finally the US government has unveiled some dangerous chemical WMD.
Too bad it's produced in the US, by a US citizen and for recreational purposes.
Go USA.
I agree with what a lot of what you say.

Ahh.. comp.sys.amiga.games..
Not that I ever read it, but the comp.sys.amiga hierarchy brings back some nice memories.
Why on earth are you brining it up here, and in this context? Surely it's off topic?
The result justify the mean?

Hehe..
Or try telling a country of Britney worshippers..
Or what about a country of Dr.Phil fans..
We're all fucked. People are stupid. Politicians most of all.

Might you be confusing visas for work and visas for studying?
There's quite a difference you stupid fuck.
because it's also true.
You deserve the -1 though. After all, this is a US centric messageboard, and you are offending your hosts.
It didn't hurt to point it out either.
Most people here probably automatically assumed that Dali was American anyway.
Just like they assume that Fermi, Bell, Tesla, Salk, Bohr, Flemming, Stroustrup, Shockley, Szilard, Einstein, Feynman and Salk were all Americans.
Yet Another War Nut
Mozilla has got native SVG support
Remember the Total Infomation Awareness project?
Don't you think they read Slashdot?
And what about your neighbours or the mail guy, have you already forgotten about the Terrorism Information and Prevention System?
Better be a good citizen and get that SUV.
Yeah..

And since it isn't a proprietary standard, they don't need to latch it on through a plugin.
Everybody should take a look at SVG, it's really nice, and Mozilla already got some (basic) support.
Opera is based on Mozilla
Actually, Opera is a cross between the Mosaic and Konqueror codebases.
Our immigration laws are so lax, I can't really tell you.
Like some famous guy said when ActiveX was first released (quoted in Wired I think): "The only active supporters of ActiveX, are active criminals".

What a weird system..
Points? Sounds kinda like a game.
