SOME games pit you against the computer taking the PLACE of another player. Most notably, recently, FPS games, eg Unreal Tournament. You could play unreal tournament against people or the computer, and the game is the same, except for the tactics/AI.

The half that is wrong about grandparent poster is that the player is playing against a SYSTEM, and in two player (human + human) games, they are both playing against a system cooperatively, or within a system against each other. To extend this, you couldn't say two player games are really 3 player games because there is a computer involved. That would mean solitaire is a 2 player game because you are playing using the rules of the solitaire game. It just doesn't work. At some point you draw a line between the system and the player.

Sorry to rain on your rant parade, but whoever told you that is right, at least in that context. In that phrase, you are using the posessive form, so it should be "its". The way you used it, the sentence could be "that is not one of it is better qualities". The normal rules for possesive grammer are kind of reversed for it's. It's is a contraction of it is. Its is possesive.

I work in IT in the sub-prime financing industry. I don't make a boat-load of money, but I do get paid for training. I have been there just over 3 months, and I have already gone to Missouri for 3 days to learn more about our database, and to sarasota Fl (a 2 hour drive) for training on something we were taking over (which didn't pan out, but I still got paid for the time).

What is in your job description? Do you feel they pay you a competitive salary? I know I am making a little less than I should with a Comp Sci degree, but after doing 2.5 years of call center work, I'm happy to be where I am now.

My work has also stated that they will pay for some training if it is relevant to what we do, and depending on the cost. We are a fairly small operation, the whole company is probably less than 200 employees, spread across 5 different locations, with most of them at my PoE or down south at the headquarters.

Also, I'd like to point out that my company is trying to move AWAY from outsourcing and bring more things back into the company, for quality control and security reasons. Part of my job will be to implement some kind of interface to our database, I'm leaning toward PHP/Mysql at this point, but I think my boss wants a commercial solution, probably MSSQL. The normal reports are written in COBOL, and have some limitations, so with PHP/MYSQL it will give us more flexibility. I don't know how to use either of them. I, and my employer, have the understanding that this is a work in progress and I will learn as I go.

I'm so sick of hearing this argument. If Microsoft is so great, how come Microsoft Office crashes on Mac hardware? Microsoft wants you to believe it is bad drivers/hardware compatibility that causes instability, thus they added driver signing. Windows still has plenty of bugs and stability issues. My wife JUST got a mac laptop 2 months ago, it was running great, then we put MS office on it. It's the only things that actually locks up or hangs on the Mac. "and the techs I've spoken with are actually sharp enough to help you outside of a script"

I want to comment on this since I happen to be a tech for a major DSL provider. (COUGH! Shit Bell Corp) I know more than to speak off of a script. We are forced to read off scripts, and deviation is frowned upon. I actually work for an outsourcing company that contracts with SBC. We have agents in and outside of the US. There is much grumbling and consternation due to these scripts, much of the time we feel like our hands are tied on certain things. Legally, they are. If there is a problem with the OS (say, winME is hosed), they are referred to their manufacturer. If one of our techs tried to fix windows and hosed it up even worse, then we can be liable for it. Most people calling in to an ISP are too clueless to realize if the problem was caused by a tech, but it has happened. One customer was switching from a Siemens modem to a 2wire and the tech had them switch the power supplies, thus causing the magic smoke to escape. We had to eat the cost of the out-of-warranty equipment.

It's a great argument against outsourcing, actually. There is a huge ivory-tower syndrome issue, it pisses me off to no end. Our only recourse with bad policies and incorrect tech documentation or incorrect procedures is to fill out a web form that some dipshit reads, and half the time they don't understand you, so nothing ever gets changed. We are graded on how we answer a call, and if it is not done verbatim, or near verbatim, we fail the call if we are being monitored.

Anyway, rant off, Speakeasy is taking a risk in doing stuff that they do for their customers. From a tech support view anyway.

I wonder who initiated this FCC change? It seems like more of the same from the era of the Bush administration. Handouts to big business.

    2) Some places do not support networks, they will tell you it is unsupported. This depends highly on where you are calling. I suppose for the purpose of this article, we are talking about a router, so they will support it. Keep in mind that in general, wherever you call will only focus on what they offer, they have to stay inside their scope of support, or else they have an easy way to get you off the phone.
    3) WRONG! This will make them get you connected once and send you away! They will say they fixed it, with no regard to wether it is an ongoing, intermittent problem. If they try to tell you to just reset it all the time, tell them that is unacceptable, speak to a manager if you have to.

Fansubbing has been around for quite a while, and traditionally it was done using VHS equipment. My experience with the fansubbing community has vastly changed in the last few years due to changing video compression capabilities. VHS fansubbing usually was associated with poor quality, where you would be getting 2nd, 3rd, and even lower generation tapes. The first fansubbed anime I ever got on the internet was in the .VIV frmat (vivo). We will not further speak it's name here. Other formats have come and gone, most everything is done in divx or ogg/xvid format now. Quality is very high. I think this may have something to do with the crackdown.

The legality was questionable to begin with. You have a huge industry in japan, with a negligable market in the US. They used to overlook it because they do not sell in the US. Things have changed, and now more and more anime is making it's way over here. So now you have a situation where it isn't illegal to copy the anime and sub it for the US, it will be if the anime ever gets liscensed for distro in the US. It becomes more and more of a problem the more mainstream anime gets.

As always, wikipedia beats me to it. More or less what I have said above.
