    It is however Apple's right to shoot themselves in the foot by becoming an even more closed juggernaut like Microsoft. These companies can literally have no long term future if they keep it up.

    I tend to think this was meant as a joke but with so many slashdotters prideful for possessing superior business acumen than Steve Jobs, I'm not so sure.

    I RTFA, and I think it's the most well-thought-out criticism of Jobs' anti-Flash editorial I've seen so far The author maintains "the way out of the Adobe vs. Apple cage match is straightforward, and exists already: free software operating systems like GNU/Linux with free software Web browsers, supporting free media formats like Ogg Theora" and later concludes, "So, the correct decision in the dispute between Apple and Adobe is "none of the above." The past we need to leave behind is not just Flash, it's Apple's proprietary software as well." I agree with that in principle.

    I too RTFA, and am now convinced of superiority and holiness of free software. I'm going to ditch my iPhone for Openmoko, pronto.

    Why do people keep citing Apple TV as an example of failed Apple product? I know it hasn't been a runaway success like iPod and iPhone but Apple TV is estimated to have sold 8 million units since its launch in March 2007. Compare that to a "successful" product like Kindle which have sold an estimated 3 million units since its launch in November 2007. What am I missing?

    Perhaps because it is the only digital distribution platforms for mobile devices that is named "App Store".

    Ummm, well, yes. Only problem is that they teach in Japanese - so they can't really be teaching anything important, could they?

    Ummm, well, universities in Japan do have courses taught in English. Only problem is that they generally suck. Of the world top 20 universities, 13 are from US and none are from Japan.

    Do they have cutting edge biotech, nano or healthcare facilities ?

    Don't you keep up with tech news?

    If you did, you will realize US leads the world (linked PDF is in Japanese but you being such a cosmopolitan I'm sure you won't have a problem with it).

    Well, yes actually, they do have quite a significant space presence.

    Are you seriously suggesting JAXA is somehow on par with NASA? If presence of Wikipedia article makes it true: Bangladesh has a significant space presence.

    Just look at Japan. A very large percentage of the Japanese population uses their cell phones in ways that would put iPhone users to shame. That is not even mentioning that Japanese cities have much higher population densities than American cities, and you don't hear stories of how the Japanese phone network is falling apart.

    14th century Europeans fantasizing about Japan as "land of gold" was cute, but these rampant portrayal of Japan as something of technical nirvana is, I dare say, borderline pathetic. The supposed 22nd century phones that "puts iPhone users to shame" exists only in Japanophile's head. In reality iPhone is vastly superior to anything Japan has made thus far. And those super cool and infallible Japanese phone network? Oh, they just throttle their network.

    I was under the impression that Obama is not perfect but that he would always admit if he was wrong and quickly qork towards the right direction. I think this will be a big test of him in my eyes. If he never turns around on this issue it means he is clearly as stubborn as the rest. If he can admit he is wrong then hes better than someone who started out agreeing with me more.

    Wow. I guess John Kerry would be your dream politician. He's a master at changing his position. He'll 'work towards the right direction' multiple times ... on single issue!

    According to BCN, boxed OS sales doubled in October.

    Microsoft and Apple's market shares in Japan on typical month is around 8 to 2. Microsoft jumped to 91.2% share when Vista came out and Apple had 51.2% share when Tiger came out. Apple just had 65.2% market share month with Leopard, that is nearly a 15% jump compared to the last OS update.

    If that scenario happened I'm pretty confident people would be smart enough to direct their anger towards 1) local laws for requiring it 2) suppliers for insisting upon it. Why would they go after a company that is in no position to change any of it?

    Japan's so called "self defense force" has a bigger budget than a military for UK, France or Germany. Only US and Russia spend more than Japan (China may have passed them recently as well).

    I'm not sure about Japan's quality. Without US's help, they'll probably be bitch slapped by N.Korea's military (1/20th of Japans military budget).

    - The faq has another picture including something that looks more like an ordinary glider. To answer the question "What kind of project is this?" he writes, "The final goal of the 'Open Sky Project' is to produce a 'personal jet glider' that can be ridden by a single person (a girl up to 50kg)." Phase 2 which he is working on now includes consideration of ideas like those in the photo.

    They decided simply making a 1/1 version of Moewe1/2 was dangerous so M-01, the craft in phase 2, is completely redesigned.

    - He is being assisted in phase 2 by Aircraft OLYMPOS, looks like this guy (Mr. Shibe? Yobe? The name reads like "four doors"..heh) knows his planes.. and he says he thinks it is possible.

    That's "Mr. Shinohe" just like Hachinohe, Aomori.

    The design of Moewe in next phase, which test pilot will ride on, doesn't have winglets and looks to be much more faithful to the original design in the movie.

    It's not "can move", the guy is actually jumping backwards as the other guy is swinging the sword. The point of the act is to move backwards enough to not get killed but close enough for apple to be chopped in half. Crazy!
