I mentioned unix to one new computer user over AIM, and his response was "Oh yea, ive played that game". Then when i told him it was an operation system, and after explaining what an operating system is for about an hour. I explained that unix/linux was an operation system sometimes used by more advanced users and he went "Oh so thell send it to me in a few months" basicly it was the AIM conversation from hell. And the reson he first IMed me was he was trying to buy my AIM screenname off of me for 7 Deutschmarks (a little under $5).
I didnt say it bounced all over all over your body, though I probably should have been a bit more discriptive in my wording. Anyway the old advice about coving yourself in wet newspaper, and even the old "duck and cover" is all designed to block the alpha particles, as they are the esiest to block. to block the beta particles you need to be in a bomb shelter, and to block the gamma rays, you need a very thick bomb shelter.
Alpha particles are easy to block, but once they are inside you, how do they get out? They dont. They bounce around inside you causing a lot of damage. Beta particles and Gamma rays on the other hand are much more difficult to block, but they do less damage than an alpha particle would.
I used windows ME for a little while. Kept 4 backups. Amount of time for all 4 backups to fail: 10 days. Interestingly 3 of those 4 wernt caused by windows itself. (1 hard drive failure, 1 caused by Norton system works, 1 caused by my college's "protection and update" disk, and the final one the OS just corrupted to the point of not being usable. However No actual data was lost ofther than some of the Operation system files, wich I replaced with windows 98SE and XP. (Used Linux to recover all files from the drives, wich I also had on that computer)
I herby volenter to run all the top level domans! I will also mak the intrenet more user frindly to those pople who cant spel by allowing peeple who want somethin like sitefinder to download a small client program to redirect them instead of causing problems on the net.
Today terrorist blew up part of the golden gate bridge. Since then 1,000,000 people have driven off the edge of the bridge and plunged into the water. The terrorists state that because there are so many people driving off the edge of the bridge it must be what the people want, so they are planning to keep it that way.
Oldest I use: Commadore Vic 20. I still use it once in a while to play text based adventures.
Oldest I use on a daily basis: Pentuim 90. picked it up for 20 bucks two years ago. Turned it into a web server. I use it for just about everything from taking notes (Remotely log in from classrooms equiped with computers, then run a script that puts my notes on the web so i can see them anywhere)to doing networking assignments. Its been running almost 24/7 for 2 years except for power outages and physicly being moved, and havent EVER had it crash.
At work we have a 5 meg drive, with 7 platters. The drive weighs 90 Lbs. it measures about 26" by 19" by 17". We dont know where it came from, but its there, and none of us want to move it.
The 160 GB drives performance should be simaler to what you get with the 300GB drive. Not as fast as the 7200 8MB cashe's but still fast enough for mostly whatever you need.
Why would the government tax the rich when the rich peoples money gets them into office? They would do more of what they do now, tax the poor and middle class.
Dear customer,
We traced your credit card that you used to pay for an illegal download of music, and have sued you for $3000. You dont need to do anything though, because we have allready charged that $3000 to your cradit card. Have a nice day!

Apparently mostly old people die from preventable causes, and younger people die from unpreventable ones.
Solution to end preventable deaths: Put everyone in a pod as soon as they are born. They will have all their needs (food, water, etc...) taken care of my machines, who are in turn powered by the humans. And lets have a virtual world for the humans to live in!
Mine was a commadore Vic 20. Its two years older than I am. I still have it infact and it works just as good as the day it was purchased. Even the tape drive and modem for it still work perfectly.
I can imagine it now. Practical jokes by roommates or co-workers against people with voice synthisized rings, resetting ring announcements to something like "Phone has finished downloading pornographic images, whould you like to view them now?" then calling it when the owner is in a public place.

Thats why you get a backup computer and save frequently to a network drive!

Ive toyed with the idea of pizza bread though. Never actually did it, but might be fun to try.

I have 2 maxtor drives. Here are the results of my benchmarks done on them (Both are secondary drives at the time of the benchmarking)
200GB 7200 RPM 8MB cache
34.8 Mbps read 34.6Mbps Write
160GB 5400 RPM 2MB cache
24.9MBps read 23.8MBps Write

I actually still play it on occasion. Now if you excuse me I got to go blow up hitler who is walking around in a mech suit in the next room.

Only some of the redundancies worked. There were scattered pieces all over the blackout area that still had power.

So THATS where the RIAA is from! Somehow I suspected they were soviets......
