    I just graduated last year from Umich, and hands down, Leith was by far the greatest prof I had. He will be greatly missed.

    They [HP] are charging the same price for the laptop loaded with MS XP (not Pro) and Suse 9.1. I was kinda hoping that it'd actually be cheaper.

    Yes, very true, I understand. If you are moving in the real world, you have momentum becuase you have a velocity realive to the ground. In the VR world, you are not moving - the ground is, so you still have momentum becuase you have a velocity relative to the ground. Momentum is what, mass * velocity? Velocity is relative. So, either you are moving wrt the ground, or the ground is moving wrt you.

    I think that you could simulate momenutm, after all momentum is relative. If you are moving, or the floor is moving, whats the difference? Just counter-propagate the floor to match the required force of stopping yourself using your weight and speed. Doesnt that seem like it'd work?

    I RTFA, whats the point in making it capable of addressing 2TB is its not physically possible to stuff 2TB of bits into the space taken up by the card??

    Yea, by my numbers, youhave 2^41 bits within 768*10^12 square nanometers. Assuming that its a planer technology, i.e. they dont stack bits on top of eachother, each bit cell is smaller than 0.0029 sqaure *nm*. Which is about the size of one atom.

    Now, I'm giving them lots of credit, they are filling the entire interior with bits, no room for packaging and no room for drivers/decoders/internal logic.

    I call bullshit :-)

    Hey, any one else get the feeling that all these remote exploits could be related to the leak of windows source some time back? Just a thought, but this is a lot of critical updates.

    Well, if what this turkey says is true, then; 1) sign up for the card, get 10% off whatever. 2) buy the iPod online using the card for a total of 20% off. Now, I dont pretend to know the details of this 10%-10% new card thing...but its an idea :-)

    No, not exactly. The interconnect wiring on IBM chips is done in copper, however, the vias - the posts (or plugs) that connect different layers of metal in the chip - are not copper, I'm thinking they are tungsten or aluminum. I know the vias that connect the first layer of metal to the silicon transistors is a different metal than used to connect between layers of copper. Copper "plugs" tend to pop off too easy, so they use a different metal for the vias.

    Good point. IBM is, has been, and probably will continue to be the #1 company for granted patents in the US. #2 isn't even close. It would be interesting to see how many IBM patents SCO is violating.
