This isonly the tip of the iceberg on this issue and it runs as deep as a vein found in the motherlode lol.

.. Apparently not disgusted he had been taking money from the Swift Boat veterans because they are righteous, honest, hard-working American ::eye roll::

All you're arguing about is the steps the Democrats have had to take openly to counter the back door politics the Republicans have used for at least a decade to try and boost their winfall. It's simply part of politics, albeit reprehensible by both sides. I don't think in issues like this you could take a side because both sides do just as much as the other, some things get press ... some don't .... which then falls to the organization you're reading. The NY Times, sponsoring Kerry officially, obviously would take a different stance than if they supported Bush officially. It's all common sense.

the better message to send to people is READ, STUDY, INGEST, DISCUSS as much of the political goings-ons that you can. Read cnn, slashdot, foxnews... get perspectives from 1000 sides then form you're own edicated decision, don't just take the talking points you saw on foxnews.com as the bible and come here preaching as though you have all the facts. It's silly.

  3. review on my Karma on Rio Karma User Review · · Score: 1

well I've owned a Karma for a little bit now and here are my impressions.

I have never had any lockups at all but I am really careful with the Karma and I've never dropped it or put it through any rough stuff, just have it on my desk at work and with me in the car, and when I go other places. Nothing out of the ordinary.

    DOCKING STATION
the docking station is a definite selling point. USB 2.0, ethernet, and stereo inputs AND it glows a crystal blue when plugged in..... AND you can adjust the intensity of the gloe slightly OR have it pulsate with your music. The ethernet cable is obviously a bonus for the Linux users.

    INTERFACE
I like the thumbstick and the wheel and using both in unison I can do most functions quickly and with one hand. I can see how some people wouldnt like the laptop like nub but you can use the wheel almost wholly in its place or use them in unison for a quicker experience.

    DESIGN
it is a little bulkier than it's counterparts but all in all I prefer it to the IPod (I owned a 3rd gen). I think stylistically it's a bit better and has some indivduality.... because I don't consider a boring white rectangle to be stylish personally.

    SOFTWARE
the rio software is pretty good. Lets you rip, transfer and synch your tunes like any good one should. You can creat playlists on your computer to transfer to the Karma and vice versa (the downside to this is a playlist on my puter has songs not available on my karma whihc is weird)

    PLAYLIST
I dig the Rio DJ. Crossfading is built in and the user can choose from 1- 6 seconds of crossfade between songs. Playlist generation can be made by artist, song, album, or genre.... all based on ID3 tag. You can also generate from the least played, most played, of all of the above as well.... etc etc etc

    OTHER FEATURES
    - Rio Taxi for file xfer support. nothing exciting but function and useful.
    - Web Interface. same thing basically but for Linux users I would imagine its more important.
    - OGG, MP3, FLAC support. can you say ogg ? :)
    - Equalizer. Your basic stuff here. From all accounts the Karma's audio quality surpassed my 3rd gen ipod to my ear. Without seeing technical jargon and crap it's hard to say.
    - comes with earbuds.
    - replacement docking stations are about $35 bucks.
    - Left or Right Hand orientation setting in the menu. Haven't played much with this one but it sounds useful lol.

I think it's great the p2p community can stand with each other and donate to help those who are targeted but that's not what it's going to take in the end.

Given that most of our political leaders will not stand up to any of the privacy issues or heavy handed tactice given that most are bankrolled by entertainment and media companies it comes down to the end user being the empowered one to stop this nonsense. Is copyright infringement illegal? Yes. Does the resolutions need to be carried out this way in a 'I have more money than you so I will squash you over time in a legal system so you may as well just give me your life savings now' method ?? NO.

Unfortunately until consumers cease buying CD's completely to send a message - the RIAA will use file sharing as the cop out everytime for CD sales declining. The reality is if they updated their 10yr old business model they know full and well their usefullness would be at an end in the digital age. they are nothing more than a middle man and a bankroll sometimes and direct distribution would make them cease to exist

  7. Re:Even the labels themselves will become useless on Kazaa CEO vs. Hilary Rosen · · Score: 1

the bulk of artists on mp3.com aren't under the umbrella of the RIAA and the artists and their independant labels allow those songs to be put up there for copyright release. If they don't allow a realease but want them up there - they offer the streaming alternative only.

There are major label artists on mp3.com but they are sanctioned by their labels. A prime example would be the band Flickerstick. they had an mp3.com site before they got signed - once they were signed all the songs were removed and only 1-3 were put up as teasers to buy their album off Epic [note: I'm not saying I'm a flickerstick fan - it was just a good example =X ]

You are right tho - eventually the artists will not need the labels since they will have direct distribution once they pry those rights from the clutching, cold ,death grasp of the labels. The first to go however will be the RIAA since their job will be ousted by the the direct marketing that digital distribution will bring about. The second to go later on [imho much later on] will be the labels. Most bands still need the labels now to front studio time etc.

Take a look through their dev notes and archived forums posts and see them all - I never played the game and I can point out a handful from 4 minutes of surfing.

it boils down to whatever makes you happy. 15/mo for SWG is more than other MMORPG's but consider this UO bumped to 13/month and those are 5-6 year old graphics and gameplay issues. I'd take my wookiee over that any day ;)

now the game is indeed full of bugs - and IMHO the most annoying features of the game are it's upto5minute bootup time and it's 3 minute log off time. If you're graphics are bad or your town lagging add more ram or get a better video card. I have 1GB of ram and an FX5900 and everything looks great to me on
