Honest gamers like me have securom installed by their purchased games because people like you will pirate them at the first opportunity....
I bought Bioshock, it installed securom, it works fine, I wouldn't even know or care that it was there. Anything that stops leechers pirating games is fine with me. Except copy protection DOESN'T stop people from pirating games, that's the whole point. If you didn't pay for the DRM it wouldn't exist either.
If you follow this legal saga at all, you know that the RIAA members have lately been fighting primarily to avoid paying the defendants' legal fees -- and losing. Instead of a quick and easy cash machine, the labels' lawsuit machine has become a costly public relations disaster, and it seems unlikely that any sane and responsible manager would order the madness to continue much longer.
Somehow it's fitting that the RIAA is getting sucked dry by the laywers...
well if you were paying the least bit of attention you'd realize it wasn't JUST 8 oz bottles they drank; there were larger bottles given as well and as far as I know it's not been reported exactly how big they were, so both you and I and everyone else here have no idea how much water she drank so why don't you stop judging until you find out?
Yes, it does, Dutch and English are definitely similar. As for whether English or German is closer, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's right in the middle, except with pronunciation rather unlike either one. I'd also say that Dutch is becoming MORE like English because of vocabulary assimilation. Pronunciation is the biggest challenge, but I don't think any major language is much closer in that either. Again maybe German, but there are big differences between German and Dutch pronunciation too, and I think the Dutch are likely to be more friendly to someone with an English accent than a German one.;p
Well, I agree we need to help our people, but I don't think we are unnecessarily helping immigrants at the expense of citizens. Immigrants are not coming here to sit around and be lazy and let the government support them; they are coming here with the specific intent of finding work, and without people to do that work society can't function. Now there's another huge debate about whether they are taking work away from willing citizens, and I'd rather not get into that one, but with the resources this country has I see no reason why a certain amount of immigration can be not only tolerated but just as beneficial to the country as past immigration has been, even if in no other way than preventing the demographic decline currently faced by Western Europe and Japan as birthrates plummet far below replacement.
I never said hispanics were responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime: only that poor people are. Bring in more poor people, then you get more crime. Is that too difficult for you to understand?
What I understand is that you have significant bias. With the complete lack of evidence you offer, I refuse to accept that Hispanic immigrants, or any immigrants for that matter, are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime compared to US citizens, regardless of the classes considered. That's what people said about the natives, that's what people said about africans, that's what people said about the Irish, that's what people said about the Italians, that's what people said about the poor Chinese who came to work on the railroads, that's what people have said and continue to say about Spanish and Mexicans. Which of those groups should we have not allowed in the country and which ones should we kick out now? Heck, if poor people are responsible for so much crime, why don't we just outlaw being poor? Put them all in prison, or kick them all out, then our crime problem will be solved for good. Do you not see what ridiculous conclusions your line of reasoning lead to? It's exactly this attitude that causes cretins like Bush to be elected and re-elected by promising to make white people, and especially white peoples' children, safe while they do nothing about real issues.
You're ignorant because you refuse to acknowledge that other countries' "trash" is what made this country what it is. (and if you don't like what it is, what are you still doing here? If you're as great as you think you are I'm sure Australia or New Zealand would be glad to have you.) Do YOU really think that Hispanic immigrants are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime? I think it's YOU who owes ME statistics since you're the one who went off making that assumption in the first place.
In case you didn't notice, the US has been "import[ing] the trash from other countries" as long as there has been European settlement on North America, for varying definitions of trash as religious, racial, ethnic, and class biases change over time. Your post smacks of ignorance, class bias, and, yes, racism. (You can't be seriously suggesting that hating one ethnic group in particular is not racism if you like all the others.) I guess it's the immigration policies of Australia and New Zealand that have allowed those countries to become superpowers with the most dynamic population and greatest technological advances, while the United States remains some backwater flooded by Spanish-speaking, Catholic, generally uncivilized Mexicans? Do you see anything wrong with that sentence? Get off your high horse.
but if Nvidia doesn't allow derivative works of (2), distributing (3) would be infringement of Nvidia's copyright anyway...
but if I was wrong and the project is only distributing the same source (2) which is later compiled on the user's computer, I think they are not infringing anything... so these little details are important and they are easy to miss...
this is my understanding; correct me where I'm wrong as I have not dealt with any of this software personally, this just comes from what I've picked up by reading about it.
The drivers you get from Nvidia/ATI (for simplicity I'll just consider the Nvidia case and assume the ATI case is legally identical) consist of (1) the actual binary driver and (2) the source code to a kernel module that you need to build/link with the kernel, BOTH distributed under the same non-GPL-compatible license seen here http://www.nvidia.com/object/nv_swlicense.html
Kororaa (henceforth "the project") is distributing (1) the same binary driver and (3) a COMPILED binary of the kernel module
Nvidia is the sole copyright holder for (1). The project needs Nvidia's permission to distribute it, which is granted in section 2.1.2 of the previously linked license.
(3) is a derivative work of both the Linux kernel (because of included headers) and (2). The project needs permission from Nvidia and the copyright holders of the Linux kernel of them in order to distribute it.
If (3) is distributed under a GPL-compatible license, the copyright holders of the Linux kernel grant their permission via the GPL.
In order for (3) to be distributed under a GPL-compatible license, Nvidia's license for (2) needs to be GPL compatible for the project to avoid infringing Nvidia's copyright for (2).
Nvidia's license for (2) is NOT GPL-compatible because it does not allow for the preparation of derivative works among other reasons.
Therefore (3) may not be distributed under a GPL-compatible license.
Therefore permission is not granted by the copyright holders of the Linux kernel to prepare a derivative work and the project's distribution of such a work (3) is copyright infringement.
Nvidia's distribution of ONLY (1) and (2) is not copyright infringement because they are the sole copyright holders of (1) and (2).
Slashdotters' poor knowledge of copyright law strikes again. Actually, it makes no difference who owns the copyright to any SONG that has had a recording published because any artist who wants to record it themselves and publish their version may do so with a compulsory license. This obviously includes the artist who published the first recording, so in fact they CAN re-record their songs regardless of what the song copyright owner or anyone else thinks.
Oh God that's what I get for not refreshing the page...but hey I probably would have been modded troll anyway like my sibling poster who is also correct while the guy responding to him incorrectly gets modded informative. Go figure.
Well, I'm not really sure, but I think they can. At least, I had an old 16:9 Toshiba TV that could (or fill the screen in the wrong aspect ratio or letterbox the original). This TV was made before DVD, for 16:9 Laserdiscs, must have been one of the first, so I figure newer ones would also be able to do it. I think it's just that most people don't know or don't care about the wrong aspect ratio and they prefer that to cropping.
Don't play PC games. Save your time and money and get some fresh air. Let's see how the publishers like THAT model.

or Cartoon Network? oops, what was I thinking?
I want one.
+1! That would look great on my wall. This is a great merchandising opportunity for Comedy Central.

best argument yet in favor of abortion.
Game magazines died with PC Accelerator...

If that's the case, then I would stand corrected regarding artists being able to re-record. Fortunately it's still true for everyone else.
We must be speaking different Englishes because nor can I understand what exactly you're asking about..

This isn't 1400 when everyone has to slave away in the fields all day to survive, you know.

You're both wrong. It should be Gates's.
Wait a minute, you're saying our House of Representatives is beneficial and informative?
