    I played Quake1 for years on my P1-200mhz. I don't see how this is out of the question for your p4-1.7ghz and Nvidia video cards.

    Unless you are talking about Quake3 etc. Even then, I play Q3 all the time on a Tbird 800mhz w/GF2. Your machines are far better than this comp.

    I guess you just have something against Quake. In that case, my suggestion would be Half Life or UT.

    I have a Magnia SG20 (refurb direct from Tosh) with a wireless card in it and a Netwinder. I definitely prefer the Magnia because its x86-based (NW is ARM, kind of a hassle) and the Magnia has other plusses. But either device is cool. For $399 its an OK price, I paid more like $200, but mine did not come with NetMax just the basic Toshiba admin panel stuff...

    For more info on the Magnia line (SG10, 20, etc) there are a couple fairly active YahooGroups that are worth checking out...

    I tried posting this on their site but it requires username, and I am not registering to post a single comment:

    I think if you do a little testing you will discover that your home broadband connection will be swamped well before the IT100 will be overloaded with web server traffic. Especially if it is all static content. "Hundreds of requests per day"?? More like thousands, easily.

    As much as I agree with you, I would not buy a product like this unless the firmware was "easily" upgradeable and the company supported Linux/hackers to a certain degree.

    Otherwise I gain nothing buying your as-yet-announced product over the Slimp3.

    Well really I just saw an article with no posts and posted something quick and dirty to get FP. :)

    But obviously (size of USA) >> (size of SK) so its not a fair comparison.

    If we "shit $87bn in social programs" why is there all this debate over $600mil to keep Hubble in the sky until Hubble2 is sent up? Crap like this is annoying to me. To say nothing about the $87bn in Iraq.

    It is much cheaper. You can buy a good quality HDTV tv tuner for $200 today. Add a decent computer for $500 with a big hard drive and you are done. Many people are doing this already.

    Set up a Samba or NFS or whatnot mount point directly into Mandrake and burn direct. That would be awesome. Waste of bandwith if you didn't just duplicate that CD from then on, or if the file was corrupted halfway, through...

    But then in the middle of the article theres this: DP Let's talk about the higher-level storage layers. How did you get started in databases? You were at IBM when the late Ted Codd formulated the relational database model. What was that like?

    So which is it? Did he die AFTER the interview or BEFORE it??

    We had a pair of these running together in the NOC of the dot-com I worked at for a year until they went under. Very nice stuff though they took up tons of space & were heavy as crap. Not something a reasonable person would have running in their house. But I think you could probably run your whole house off of it as long as you didn't run the dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer, 10 servers etc all while on battery power...

    If a business provides (sells) this information, its legal and considered "good business".

    If an individual does the same thing, he's a criminal.

    Glad we cleared that one up. Hacking is illegal, but we definitely need better laws that protect our private information here in the USA!

    I did have to buy an external modem for my home box because it apparently came with a Winmodem.

    Is it not strange to you that you bought a computer with peripherals that would not function with the software you paid for?? I would demand that the Winmodem be exchanged at no extra cost for an equivalent Linux-friendly modem.

    next time perhaps just say the cd doesnt work in your machine, and you need another? surely they take back faulty software when the media is bad.

    explaining the situation (well its got an online key that is unique, and i have to activate it online, and its already been used) is just going to get you dumb stares from most store employees ime...

    i sit on my pc pissed when my cable modem goes out or i have an electricity surge/brownout, and it takes me 20mins to decide what to eat for lunch/dinner etc

    and all the slashdot articles are talking about SCO and Intellectual Property and the last episode of Futurama and filtering spam emails

    and then i run across a /. post talking about the people in the Congo who have "recently been slaughtering one another with pretty much anything at hand"

    when i moved a couple months ago, my connection to the net was on my neighbors wifi until i finally broke down and got my own cable modem. but i definitely had zero complaints about the speed when i was not paying for it...

    never found out who it is/was, apt complex is too large. laptop + orinoco + cantenna would probably point me in the right direction, but i don't think i could conclusively decide which unit had the signal without knocking on some doors...

    no shit, i've seen people open their browser which has its home page of Yahoo and type in www.cnn.com in the search box and then click on the first site link that comes up... they dont know that you can type that address directly into the URL bar!! f'ing amazing!

    The worst is my most recent Xtend PowerXtender, which is rated 12-16V and often refuses to work unless the engine is running - very annoying when I'm waiting in the car and want to use my laptop.

    No offense but doesn't your LAPTOP have a battery in it, such that the adapter would not be required the entire time you are using the computer? Run it off the laptop battery while the car is not running, and then plug it in to charge/run the laptop while driving around. Doesn't seem too hard to me.

    I have Magnia SG20 and its fantastic. I have recommended it to many of my friends. And I paid quite a bit less than Tiger wants. You can find them refurb on ebay or just join the Yahoo group and wait for people to sell theirs on the list for prices under $200...

    And source code for p2p is available from a number of open source software projects, so adding in the p2p network would be relatively trivial.

    How about you build in a p2p network that communicates the "Sites of the Day" rather than depending on a single webserver somewhere?

    As we all know, destroying a network (kazaa) is much harder than taking down a single server (napster).
