The only thing google needs at this point is a gMail notifier, something which is in beta at the moment.
This whisper about the IM client was brought out in the comments here on slash, and probably echoed the meme going around.
Lots of people now have the google toolbar, they are starting to have google outside the usual search bounds. I don't see an IM client as a bad thing.
Having google searches on previous and current conversations would most likely scare people too much, but something like (pie in the sky) collaberative research - allow you and your friends to hunt for related information without having crossover of results and wasted searches, to pull the final details together in a shared results page.
The original story I linked to mentions that the one described is only one of 11 broken arrows.
Its absolutely shocking to think that these things can be left. Its bad enough they exist in the first place, but for them to be outside strict military control is the worst part of it.
I realise its "ecenomically unfeasible" to recover everything, but placing a dollar (or pound since I'm from England) value on life is just wrong.
Firstly, theres all the hackers using something called "Linux", the young Feds were trained on MS Windows, and then they have to rebuild their FBI hard coded network monitor to operate on a port other than 80.
Most of all, the retraining fees are needed because they are no longer using mice with balls, they have upgraded and now have mice with frikkin lazer beams attached to their underbelly.
I fail to see really how this can be implimented without actually allowing tapping the rest of the data stream, otherwise anybody could simply sign up to an offshore service using encryption and another port.
Isn't there a Nuke lying somewhere of the coast of America?
If I remember rightly, they have also left it there rather than disturb it and possibly set it off.
The thought of a huge mud flinging explosion is also somewhat reminiscant of the rotting whale carcass left on the beach. They decided to use 1/2 a tonne of dynamite, and in the reports words: "the blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds."
Something I expected is still missing, and an opportunity wasted on this initial version.
When I get a notification from other systems (MSN Messenger mainly), I can click on the popped up window and be taken directly to the email, this I can't.
I believe this is because of the integration that the online app has, with no directly linkable page for an individual email.
For a home system, it would be perfectly possible to have a "teach" mode where after the device is connected, there is a window of time when computers can be added.
Adding a computer is a matter of opening a browser window or something.
After this window is closed, only allow machines already registered.
It could even be done with a push button system, just like the RF keyboards and mice had, where you have to introduce the keyboard to the baseunit by a special button or key combination.
1) Power up the unit 2) Wait for the light to go green. 3) Press the "Setup AP" button once. 4) Open an internet window on each of your computers. 5) Once all machines have been identified, press the "Lock AP" button.
Your Access Point will then close off connections from any other machine.
This is no different to the training people do between RF Mouse/keyboard, and plenty of people handle them ok simply because those are the instructions they were given.
There is no instance where spam has caused a child to be orphaned, where a family has been ripped apart, where lives have been ruined.
An advertising campaign no matter how vigerously pushed is just that - advertising.
You yourself are advertising your own spamming campaign, the "savesamandmax" campaign is in your eyes commendable, but your just as guilty of mass mailing and telephoning to the same amount of individual recipient annoyance, should you be thrown on the pyre as well?
I can only imagine your campaign has not got the same level of support as others, but if it was, you could quite easily DOS their website, fry their mail servers, make the secretary pull her hair out cos the phone wont stop ringing, and you could even give the postman a hernia!
I'm not saying it isn't a problem, and I'm not happy to put up with it myself, but it does have to be put into perspective.
The problem with spam and the internet is one of volume, every advertiser does their own little part and we the consumers do suffer, but its a problem of software implimentation, not life sentencing.
I can cope with advertising as long as it is the same style as a newspaper or magazine.
Fixed, static (relivent?) adverts work.
Google has shown this.
My eyes go funny when things move around, and the recent trend towards making adverts expand (without flash or plugins) when you hover over them is just damn annoying.
If I am watching TV or a movie, I expect things to move, when I am reading a page I expect things to stay still.
If (xpLite) { //BUG: xplite app_limit=3, following was always false //if(spywareCount > 20) stupidUser = true; //FIX: not conclusive, but should catch 99.9% stupidUser = true; } else { if(spywareCount > 20) stupidUser = true; }
Mind you, if your runnin xpLite, you wont be running any other code.

I don't know about you, but just being Open Source fan unfortunately does not mean I can stay away from Windows.
In the real world, we have jobs and PHBs and spouses who don't want to disrupt things or break working apps (Sims for the missus, god help me if I break that one!).
I think the SP2 stories are required reading at the moment, and at the same time, I am glad the comments are littered with cynical remarks and questions. We need to question the motives of these companies, and we need to test SP2 to breaking point.
We want Linux to "take over the desktop", but at this point, as a compromise I am happy running Firefox and OO.org.
I won't try and say I dual boot, I find the thought of having to reboot an entire computer just to run one program absolutely stupendous, but when I get my linux bug I always have a knoppix disk lying around:)
A buglist is exactly that. A list of identified problems in the software.
Each problem may require many physical changes spanning multiple sub projects and be included in each individual changelog, most likely with a reference to the overall bug.

We become the pigeon.
I wouldn't mind a change in form factor for hard drives.
Having a drive looking like a 50cd spindle and containing many tb of data wouldn't be *that* bad would it?

Did I miss any out
Oh my no, its much more expensive than you think.

These tiny pieces of matter still have the possiblity of knocking some sense into Darl.
Besides, its not the size, its what you do with it that counts.
I think they should build it....
;)
oh, I don't know, maybe 40 or so km from SCO's headquarters?

It was a money making scam, the game is up.
If they want to keep mindshare now they have to change their product offering.
Why have a password?

They should also lose their lives
Rapists, molestorers and murderers are examples of people who need putting out of their misery.
Lets keep things in perspective, spam is an electronic message, if it bothers you that much, setup a whitelist.
By your reckoning, should I have my fingers chopped off for pinging you?
You just paid to advertise a competitor?
Thanks!
You would be pretty pissed off if your competitor actually gained loads of sales because of it!
