Article quote : Although damage inside Atlantis' left wing was detected post-flight, NASA worried about the shuttle's return even before the discovery.
If NASA knew about that shuttles could be damaged by debris on take off before the columbia disaster, why didn't they take sufficient steps to prevent it? It seems like too much was a stake for this not to be fixed but I guess that's my opinion.
While this action can be seen as a good thing, i think that it won't necessarily result in much more sales for Unreal 2. If the developers at Legend had released it with the game it could have made a difference.
>Supporting Trans Gaming is supporting Linux gaming.
Again I think that this is only a partial solution because using wineX to play your favorite game (ie Warcraft III) is akin to running it on a windows emulator (I know wine is not an emulator). For Linux gaming to really shine, there need to be honest to god ports of the games we play, not hacks. But still I think that supporting Trans Gaming is a good thing, so I will probably end up doing that.
Yea, a renewed space race could be a good thing, but I think it would be better if we collaborated instead of competed. NASA needs more partners in space not competitors.
> You can actually say that about pretty much any distribution.
Amen to that, i think that that's what makes linux great! you can configure pretty any much distro to be what you need it to be. However certain distros make life easier for you such as Debian with its apt-get and Redhat/Mandrake with its rpm system. I don't understand why people still use slackware because there isn't any package management built in... does it offer any advantages to the other more recent distros? (out of curiosity)
I think it stems from the fact that people like to fee l like they're being sucessful without putting in the time to actually be good at the game. This is why cheats exist in the first place, as a shortcut to victory.
In this world there will always be people who seek to take the easy way out, and those people are the ones that make online game playing such a crappy experience right now...
> Maybe it's news because Mandrake is seen as more of a desktop distro than RedHat (though it also forms a very capable server)
I disagree, I use Redhat 9 every day as my primary workstation and I have to say that its quite capable as a desktop as well. Granted you have to re-enable mp3 playback and install a few applications, but when its all setup and ready to go I'd rank it up there with Mandrake. And when you take the fact that its not a French product, you have a winner!
> I've just been playing in Linux, thank you very much.
Yea, I do know about Transgaming, but its only a partial solution.
> It runs just as smoothly and reliably in Linux as Windows.
I hear its about 90% of the time.
>They'd also start paying attention if TransGaming start posting profits of hundreds of thousands of dollars (so go pay them).
Good Point, I do however dislike paying for a game and then having to pay additional money to play it on my system of choice, especially when an equally popular system (Mac) is fully supported.
Of course there are other radio shows with a technical perspective! Just take a look at Coast to Coast with Art Bell (sometimes). The technical parts come in to play when UFO's are mentioned....
Good point, I think that we don't know enough about the ocean to be using such high powered sonar. For all we know, we could end up killing off an entire new species...
In the spirit of recreating an xbox, why don't we also recreate a Dreamcast-like PC setup. Its development community was just about as active as the xbox's is today, plus it ran windows CE..
Its hardware specs were:
- 128 Bit custom hitachi cpu (equivalent of Pentium II?)
- NEC PowerVR2 Graphics card (I'm sure you can an equivalent at a used computer parts store)
- 16 megs of ram
- 12x cdrom
- no harddrive
- add on modem/network card.
IMHO I think all would cost about 20 bucks, but getting it to run would suck... i guess you could use Knoppix!
Personally I would
leave my lights on all the time.
Run my all the computers i own 24 hours a day (i already do...)
Keep all my old appliances and use them for pointless tasks. (wait, i do that too.)
Surround myself with energy inefficient fans...(i did that yesterday!)
Buy a fuel inefficient car. (my car gets 15 mpg.) :)
On second thought, i don't think my life would change at all

That was a good one :) But not as good as the soundtrack to Vanilla's debut Cool as Ice
Qcad is a good program, at least on linux. It doesn't do 3D but then again, for simple drawings 2D works just fine.

I guess this would be a good distro if you like to "get under the hood" of the os. Good points though, they make me want to give slack a try :)

They even ruined yahoo chess for me!

I'm still waiting on the Linux version... hello blizzard!! Linux has almost equal desktop share to the Mac and we still get no official support :(
Fine, add 50 cents to the above price

Nice Page, hopefully more and more vendors will offer linux pre-installed. Here's hoping that IBM/Dell/HP will see that there is finally a demand.
I don't use microsoft, my debian updates are free.
maybe he doesn't want to pay 99-199 dollars every time apple decides to make an incremental release?
I think that would be too expensive an option, but maybe an used one with yellowdog will do...
Is there a debian based distro that does gnome right?
anything that works :) mpeg-4 sounds good.
