    I was getting at Hyper Threading on the new intels... Its the way to go... and Its going to be the future for gaming machines... But the OS dectects 2 CPU's for every 1 your have... So far all Cheapo NT licences are for 1-2 CPU's.. not the 4 it would detect if you have 2 Hyper threading CPU's plugged in.

    Hmm.. Lazt .. I think not.... Took alot more than no effort to write the program... So lazy is out... Efficient is alot more toward the right light to put it under... Now we need a RFC to send to all Pizza joints so they can be added with ease :)

    Boxen like those... Should be opn thier own network with restricted access.. Heavily restricted access.. Earn your money the easy way.. Put your foot down and say NO.. That will just cause problems... and when it does and your on lunch.. Tell em.. I told you so... I'll get up from my lunch to fix it... But Its gonna get fixed properly or I am gonna finish eating my lunch and get to it later. :)

    Well youshould be running your own caching DNS server anyway.. Just start to add in black holes for sites that push Spyware/Adware.. That helps soo much in the long run... and if you keep your eyes on what your doing there is near 0 impact on net access.. and if you do your list right and include alot of banner sites you will drop your over all bandwidth useage/cost if your metered.

    Their licencing Practices cause priacy aswell... EG.. you spend the money on 2 P4HT CPU's and MB... Next MS wants you to lay out 1200$ for a OS licence for home use so you can have spanky Frame rates and multi task.. No MS Licencing states that anything more than a 2 CPU equiv doesn't need to be in the home there for its a business application and you need to pay the fees.. You will see alot of business Apps being priated for home use because they do not offer a product for the home user.. I want to a bit of Cad schetching for some mods to my car.. do I need to shell out 4-5K for an app I am gonna use once or twice and never make money off of... No.. (thats just an example... because if the big software companies have their way there would be no free software... and as it is with software patents.. soon there will not be free versions of commercial software for teh home user)

    But I think there is a good %age of people looking for exploitable bugs in linux aswell as windows and the linux ones are getting patched as they are found... Overall... LInux is easier to setup in a "Secure" Fashion than Windows is to make it more of a unlikely target for a worm.. So if the roles were reversed Linux having 90% of the marketshare there would be alot of us geeks that would feel safer running out linux boxen over a windows boxen just for the simple fact you can set it up in a higher state of "Secureness" :) after all most worms take advantage of MS's turn everything on by default mindset.

    LongHorn is a ways away yet... Linux has enough of a market share now and its growing. There is a market for Linux based hardware... Locking everything thing else out is not a way to go... Look at all the businesses that are still Holding their mega-legacy systems close to thier heart... This will Push them away from MS and towards Linux as MS will not Talk to the legacy systems because they are untrusted... If MS allows interconnectivity to these legacy devices that can be used to connect to Linux aswell.. They can't have thier cake and eat it too in this case... With what they are doing they could very well be Building thier own coffin... But in their patent frenzy this could be a good case to show how bad software patents are and how much of a monopoly MS has and the DOJ will be back at their heels and hopefuly next time they will deal the blows that are needed to MS to get them to change their Practices.

    Umm DuctTape is as the top of the tool chain... It builds just about anything :) Not only is it a tool.. But its considered to be a basic building staple for making stuff :)

    Wont be able to dodge? Hosts files work pretty good... But thats Getting really redundant... Its not going to be much longer before this is how the new wave of pop-up blockers will work and there is no way around it... and with our current IP shortage its not easy to change your IP range at regular intervals... These annoy ads are near death... Its time for them to let them die... The nice thing about host files.. even Flash Ads are gone along with any would be replacement... But Host files aren't for everyone.

    What should be done is a mandatory list of software that gets installed on your system when you install an app... and It must be in a neat easy to read fashion.. and It should strech past just Adware/Spyware... should list drivers ect also... Companies should not be able to hide what they are tossing on your system in EULA's... There should be a Software Manifest if you would like that you can look at thats easy to read and not all unreadable legal speak ect..

    you live in alberta? even so.. at a tax rate of 26% you must be making less than 35K a year.. I was in the 60K+ range and was getting dinged 47%(at the end of the year averaged out) just on income.. then theres PST+GST and all the hidden taxes...

    When I heard they were breaking into the search business I was not interested at all because I knew damn well Amazon of all companies will install spyware on your machine... Its Amazon! What good have they done the on-line community.. Virtually none.. Other than make it through the dotcom bust....

    With the vast ammount of spyware out there... I am becomming more and more catuous to change my surfing habbits... I don't know what % of people are out there like me.. but thats one thing google will have over its new "Competition".. They don't do spyware.. and they better not start or I am sure they will be dropped like a bad habbit (well anyone that reads here would be dropping them)

    Welll Pretty much every ISP has no spamming in their AUP... so alot of people will be talking to their ISp support when their accounts gets turned off for spamming.

    Honestly Its has been nearly 20 years since I saw a Powersupply that that wasn't switchable between the 2 standard AC voltages that was worth more than 9.95$... so Powersupplies can practically be tossed from your Requirement list...

    Have you even looked for comparable software? The app you use now on windows might not be available on linux.. But have you looked for apps that do the same job? it doesn't sound like it... App wise there is very little that linux doesn't have a similiar app... but games.. thats another story..

    Ok they need to be able to send spam... Make them pay for it... fire up a mail hub that spammers user to relay mail from... charge them for bandwidth and "remote" storage of their mail to be givin to ISP's that do not reject spam in general (Wanting it to stop because it takes up significant resources rather than for customer service reasons)... Right now its a Screw the ISP deal for sending Spam... ISP's loose out in the spam war from costs to "deal" with it.. Would he object to this rational? Probably because it may be enough of a burden to ruin profits... but it could slow the spam down... Its very common to see the same spam mail in the junk box 5-10 times a day... what need is there for this? None!

    I am sure moments after the person who decided to make the username static if finished being flogged and sacked there will be a firmware update.. The only problem is Its likely they a vast majority of these devices will not get the firmware update. But to good to see Cisco get some bad press from time to time.. need to keep competition fired up :)

    That seems to be a huge problem in the industry... "Sysadmins" that are lost and clueless... They are killing salaries and what not because they just don't have what it takes to do the job correctly... Atleast this one has a enough braincells to post on here... But still is lazy not to google and try free software to find something that meet the needs.
