You will need mass scale to help pay for the equipment that is needed to connect to and the infastructure to get it to that last mile...
Customer owned fiber would still need to terminate On his property and in a fixed manner that would reduce/eliminate the possibility for that fiber to be damaged.
So fiber will still need to be run past customer premise for connection.. so there could still be 1+ miles of infastructure that needs to be rolled out still.
Problems? Splicing a Fiber cable a Problem? Its about as much of a problem as electricity.. They both have possible dangers but that didn't stop electricity from catching on...
As far as looking into a lit fiber... Umm... Why would you do that... Only multi mode fiber uses a wavelength that is visible. But still who in their right mind would run the risk of permanently damaging their eye by looking into a fiber when you have tools made to do with out risk to your self. Thats like a electrician using his tounge to test for voltage instead of a proper meter...
When you look around a Fiber Termination Panel you see all sorts of warning about looking into the end of the fiber with/without magnifying lenses...
No I think adding a clause exempting spammers of being able to prosicute peoiple that utter/send death threats Would be one of the best anti-spam laws that could be put in place.. after all it would be the easiest and cheapest to "Enforce":)
This person was obviously provoked to this extreme level of rage... The company that did it should also go through the legal wringer for all of the injustaces they have done to him...
When taunted enough most people will eventually respond with a life threat... This could have all been avoided if they would have removed him from thier lists... While he did goto an extreme he should get some mental counciling to help him deal with his rage.. the company which he was threatening should Also be brought to some justice by ignoring his requsts for removal.. From reading the article he did make a number of polite attempts to get them to stop bothering him. But they made no effort to accomodate him. So they are more at fault then he is as he is a victim of humanity for the most part:)
Its not like to flew off the handle at 1 single case of spam comming on his computer.. if that were the case I am sure his head would would have exploded by now:)
He should have a Civil Suit to combat this as well he should be able to sue for Mental Dammages:) Because thier Ads Abviously drove him partly insane:) and as long as all of the jury owns a computer and uses the internet he should easily win his case:)
Well Porn Spammers should be prosicuted for providing adult orientated materials to minors. After all 99% of Porn Spam has pictures of nudity and sexual orientation.
Yeah but the price diffrence between the two is also preventing a turn.. but in most cases copper will suffice short range transmission needs so optics will remain pricey...
Optic terminators are still Quite costly when Copper solutions can do the same job for Way cheaper.. And to extend that "little strand of glass|plastic" to your home would be of astronomical cost.. for a fairly small city it would be in the billions... construction to lay/hang fiber/cable is about 30-70+$ a foot... If there was fiber runing down ever allyway that would be atleast 50-90 feet on avg to every house... then fiber concerntrators would be needed as fiber counts of 100,000 or more running everywhere would be way crazy and costly... Where you can easily concentrate 10,000 100Mbit into a gig-e for fairly cheap compared to any fiber only solution.
Well.. I do Trust MS's software.... I Trust it to be insecure:) Thats Trustworthy Computing! I am sure MS will Never Fail the level of trust I have in them:)
Part of the problem is Tracking down spammers:) There are far topo many open proxy's and relays still on the net which makes tracking the actual offender virtually impossible.
Yeah wasn't that last one that Big the one that wiped out the dinosaurs a few million years ago? That would make us Well overdue! That is not good news:)
Sorry... I must say thats just a bad idea... No-one will want to invest any more time in spam even to undo the business model.
Spam takes away too much of my day as it is... unless I know there are atleast 1 million people doing this to disuade spammers from their practices.. There is no point.. not to mention possibility of fraud charges.
Its fairly difficult with options like "only accept messages from those on my contact list"..
This should be a default setting on IM clients... Also adding in restrictions like limiting the number of requests to be added to contact lists per IP and new screen names per IP a day with scanning origonating IP for a open proxy could make it inconvient enough to prevent spammers of utilizing IM as the next Spam medium.
Well on one note... Failure to fix SMTP so it can't be so easily used as a spam mechanism is forcing people away from email to IM... Thats not that bad.. IM systems can take more measures to prevent spam than traditional email can..
Since there is a "centralized" body that writes and maintains IM systems that is not dependant on RFC standards set well over 2 decades ago before spam was rampant.. They can adapt more agressively to spammers.. Email is dying a fast death due to email... and its because no-one can update SMTP (effectivly breaking it) and forcing everyone to upgrade. Where in the IM world.. they do not have those restrictions..
Hopefully soon we will see a IM system take the lead to comepletely replace the need for Email with proper safeguards to prevent spam from forcing death apon it.
I am very familiar with the US spectrum and licencing... But what they really need to do is dedicate a portion of the spectrum for these type of applications.. Not make it Unlicenced... Unlicenced specrum is not the best for a commercial application..
Also.. Just on a note... The whole Spectrum is wireless:) they can't broaden it anymore:)
You need toolz to hack... if you are smart you want to leave as much behind to obsecure your idenity... wouldn't be smart to leave tools/logs intact on comprimised systems to throw off investigators.
Using Script kiddies as an example.. It does not take anyone with any inteligence to commit crimes using computers. They only need enough intelligence to commit the crimes and the ability to use a search engine.
But there would be alot of offences that would be difficult to apply this example to.. but not impossible.
Hmm... I would find it hard to belive you have never ran a Windows 9x system.... The only logs it has are of it crashing during boot up or during install.

One day maybe someone will finally completely lose it and go and kill a spammer... If it does ever happen I wonder if it would have any effect at all.

Only cost a half a billion dollars for 270,000 people... and it hasn't been finished yet to see cost overruns and what not...

Just wait.. one of these days you will Fire up your IM to see 99,000 requests for authorization from spammers.
They just have no fear...

It some extent... You are not responcible for murders done with our car... While you are responcible for tickets.. Criminal activity is another case.
