    Seems to be the new Buzz word of Patentology.

    Patentology - The process of putting patents on everyday common tasks.

    Who would consider adding on "Over the ineternet" onto a common task and call it "Technology". Not I, Thats for sure. Then tossing a patent on it. This is totally out of hand.. This needs to stop sooner rather than later.

    Don't sweat.. Because according to MS .. Everyone one will have firewalls to make thier systems secure :) Boy if MS ever gets into the firewall business :)

    That just doesn't work... If you have poorly written insecure Code running any service that you wish to make available to the public all the firewalls in the world arn't gonna make that system secure... the second that service is exposed its suceptable to exploit.

    Do you actually think they make the Cool Mice Joysticks and Keyboards? no they are all made for MS.. thats why they work and don't need to restart windows when you reprogram any of the programmable keys :)

    No they will "bundle it" with other offerings to get it out in mass then use thier domination of the market place to eliminate competeion :)

    But seriously... Its seems to be a product built to please everyone but the consumer... Unless you live in redmond and have one of the "testing" models where the DRM is broken :)

    I hate to point out Prior Art for your Patent.. But At nearly the exact same second light was "invented" it was put to use "doing stuff". Its inital use was to Light up all the darkness :)

    Also there are alot of prior art examples for using it to calculate stuff too :)

    I predict the outcome from thier study will be Windows is drastically cheaper..

    I don't know why anyone puts any ammount of weight on these types of studies.. They are allways in favor of who is paying for them.

    I allways wondered who paid for the study that came to the conclusion that Research causes cancer in rats :)

    I hate to say it.. but since the common public and the press continue to slaughter the term Hacker... Maybe its time to come up with a new terminology.... After all.. Listing Hacking as a hobby on a resume is not good these days... But its one thing that should be able to be listed with no negitive connotations.

    Well.. They didn't say they were paying for a unbiased study :) Since they are paying for it.. I am sure they chose someone who has vested interest in the MS platform in some manner :)

    There will allways be a abuse problem reguardless if its legal or not... and legalizing drugs may make some sence... But not totally... How can extreamly addictive be allowed to be taken without supervision or control?

    And once the illegal drug trade has been cut out.. what will happen to all those people that depend on it for their income (Sure this a bad statement but still needs to be addressed.. What % of the population is "employed" by the drug trade and what will happen when they lose thier "jobs"... what will they take up next to make thier "income" thats quick as easy like the drug trade?... solutions to this could be as if not more damaging as the drug trade itself).

    Still there will be massive problems even with legal drug trade... It will allways continue to be a problem untill a perfect "happy" pill is created that can satisfy the urges of those apt to end up in a drug enduced life while not creating problems within society from its use..

    Legal drug trade without boundries is a pipedream.. and once boundries are put in it will fail as it still gives room for a illegal drug trade.

    Thats what needs to be done.. Once it has been decided what code is in violation, depending on the quantity and its complexity (which sounds extreamly minimal at best).. It can be recoded/worked around and a a SCO IP free Kernel can be put out and all this can goto rest and SCO falls flat on its face and dies its hopefully quick and painful death.

    With all the ruckus SCO is making in the linux comunity I am sure it would take a matter for days/weeks of a collabertive effort to rid the kernel of all offending code and end this madness..

    They are very hard to track for starters.. secondly from what i have seen and read the ultimate majority of these writes that are in North America are underage teens... So what would you proposed would be a harsh example for a underage teen that would get parents enmasse to speak up and block these measures to protect thier intelligent kids?

    Also the mentallity of this group of youngersters is usally that they are indistructable and cannot be caught cause they know more than the next guy :) So the people that got caught are stupid unlike them :)

    But its the end users 90% of the time that don't path thier systems or have thier systems configured insecurly.

    So going back to what you said... End users should have to pay? or just uneducated people that lack the understanding to secure thier home PC? if its just the people getting infect how would to qualify people that should pay for these solutions?

    You have a sniff of an idea.... have isp's working together and add a prhrase in thier EULA to authorize patching of thier systems to stop worm attacks.

    There would have to be a opt out for people that wouldn't trust others messing with thier machines... but then they could be in a 24 hour notice to clean and remedy or lose connection untill it has been delt with... 24 hours should be enough to remedy .. if not maybe some other time frame might be approprate.

    Well I think they should finish thier current product line before taking on a new project... They have made huge leaps and bound towards a more stable OS... but its is still plauged with secruity flaws and problems..

    Most companies get thier software project into a sable scenario before taking on the next huge project... But i guess thats part of MS's business plan... Toss in alot of Hot hype Phat software that is in a some type of useable state and work out kinks in future upgrades and releases.

    Look at .NET... its been upgraed to what WinFX now? wasn't .net complete? or was .net origonally planned to be a partial release or just rushed to market?

    It would be better to do with optical sensors and smart traffic management systems that have a large area of awareness... Independant close proximity systems are are unaware of each other actions and the affects they will have on thier traffic lights are just as evil.

    Hmm... Sounds like a good place for a Open source solution to take place... Cheap common hardware thats not vendor specific to keep cost down.. Should be fairly easy to fund once you have a few major cities that are wanting to upgrade/replace thier traffic management systems...

    I am sure something like this coudl easily be assembled for 20% or less teh cost of a ineffective solution that is allready on the market.

    Actually the greater extent is Windows Default settings...

    Hide filetype extentions... Thats BAD... when most people see .JPG some will think its safe to open even though it has a hidden executable extension behind it... This is how JPG virii misnomers come around and the like.

    There are Many many other examples of Default Windows settings that make virii more successful in infection.

    Other good paths are unused services on by default. As well as the many features that make Windows so easy to use also help Virii propagate.

    Actually It shouldn't take too long for anti-blog-spam guards to be implimented... Force Spell checks so that Spammers can't misspell things to pass a filter.. Also a good CAPTCHA before submit would also help... But with blogging being as popular as it is.. if CAPTCHA systems were starting to be deployed in mass I would hope to see many improvements in that style of systems to keep spammers out...

    For the Edmonton Problem... People in mass need to aproach canidates during a election for mayor about traffic light issues and make it a topic so something will be done about the pathetic traffic system Edmonton has... Mind you its not as bad as Montreals Stop signs :)...

    Heard a funny saying while I was there for a visit... Everyone runs red lights so they put stop signs in instead because people seems to stop for them.

    I usually wait a reasonable ammount of time then run the red light on my bike... I have been pulled over a few times for running the light but after a quick talk with the cops I never got a ticket... I had to show a few of them my bike wouldn't set off the censor.... If you make the effort to wait a reasonable ammount of time and ensure the area is clear of cars you won't get a ticket.. and if you ever do... Its too easy to challenge..
