People are thinking about this the wrong way, do not think of it as a oversized DVD, think of it as a write once hdd. You put a 1.6TiB hdd in and send journaling/logging data to it, or dump backups or static files. When its full swap it out, putting it in a zip disk type casing to protect the TiBs of data might be a good idea in this case. Or if they are cheap enough just swap out the entire holohdd. Finaly all the /.ers will have an easy way to access all their pr0n. But seriously thats exactly what this is good for, keeping vast ammounts of static media/data accessable.

Nothing stoped me, and nothing is stoping you from living with those principles. Do anything you want as long as it does not harm(adversely affect would be a better more general term) anyone else. Simple and it works, like all the best solutions. It also works wonderfully recursively, anyone trying to harm you by controling you or limiting what you can do is going against it.

What a waste of time, now we have 3 projects doing the same thing, can they not think of something origional to do? Now effectivly we have 1 foss collection of books, and 2 redundant proprietary collections because they could not work together, oh no then we might have all this scanning done 3 times faster, someone needs to scan them a book to teach them cooperation.
No amount of computer resources can make up for human inefficiency.

Welcome to Japan. Anime mostly, but movies/tv/media as well are commonly released strait to video and have been for decades. OVA(origional video appearence) releases are, as is the case here, usualy bad, but when they are good they put full length tv series anime to shame. All the story of a full 26ep season packed into 3-4 episodes, movie length, and without having to change the artistic vision at all to be tv safe or fit the marketing angle the station is using, they can get into every niche in the market, which probably contributes to the enourmous media market there. The industry here could do this, but none of the media companies want to change.

What is making you charge more? are the people sneaking in taking up photons that would otherwise be used by paying customers?
Maybe if there was limited space, but that is not an issue with computers.

Are the art critics sneaking in the back? couples out on a date? want to be art snobs? general public, maybe.
Most likely the people sneaking in are the same kids downloading warez and mp3z, the kind that travel the back alleys behind museums in the big city.

Is it a lost sale if they get a look for free? Is it worth it to ruin their life and/or passion for art over that look.
Who knows how many artists were inspired because of a work they were not supposed to see, or hear.
If the art in the museum is not the usual crap maybe they will even like it and come visit as paying customers later on(unless it is crap, then I guess this is your one chance to sucker them in), once they have a job(maybe they will be critics, with a colorfull history and interesting viewpoint), or maybe once they have a partner and can go as a couple, then they will have to pay for two.
Maybe they will, despite the overpriced admission.
Or maybe they will go back to walking the street and getting a free look at all the great local art on display.
Who can say, and what does it matter so long as you are making money, unless all you care about is money, and you are only in it for the greed, then I guess it all makes perfect sense to go to such extreme lengths.

A better plan in that case would be to charge a hundred thousand or so per person, and give them a guided tour, unlocking the artwork only when absolutely nessesary. Then you could be sure no one could sneak in and view it. One person is as good as 2000 as long as the same ammount of money is made. Locking art up is better than letting it be free anyways, its not like it was ment to be seen.
