Admittedly Aluminum production is one of the most energy intense industries but the common factor is large scale consumption of power and the need for reliable power. You really don't want to expose a steel mill to a brownout.
Yeah, but the penalty for a brownout when refining bauxite electrolytically is a lot lower than the penalty for a cooldown at a steel mill.
Yes, I was trying to convey the point that any large scale continuous material processor is going to be very averse to random power outages, and using particular instances to illustrate.
How Much Does it Cost to Produce One Ton of Aluminum?
Although the newest smelters can be closer to 12,500 kWh per ton, let’s say most smelters are consuming electricity at 14,500-15,000 kWh/ton of ingot produced.

Wind is both more expensive and less reliable than conventional sources which is why Germany still operates brown coal power plants for it's steel industry. The more wind you have the more expensive your overall power costs.
because those are protected classes. You can't choose to be gay or a women. You _can_ choose your political beliefs. Hence we protect those classes and not political beliefs.
Really ? Need to talk to Bruce Jenner, he's so heroic / sarcasm Or Richard Raskin nee Renee Richards (who in his autobiography said growing a beard suppressed his transgenderism)
For the foreseeable future, NASA isn't even planning to go to the moon. They're planning to be a space station in cislunar orbit. It will be mad expensive, will not help in any way with actually getting to the Moon or Mars, isn't even really all that close to the Moon at all, and is generally going to be a huge waste of money. Between the Lunar Gateway and the Space Launch System, NASA won't have any money left over to go to the Moon's surface itself.
Man you should of posted that with a log in. Just from an orbital mechanics standpoint having the way station in earth orbit always was just as good as in lunar orbit and considerably cheaper as well. This goes back to Von Braun's original plans for lunar exploration. Anyway I would be willing to bet the team in Huntsville manages to suck enough money from the NASA budget that even the Lunar Gateway never happens.
I dunno. Is lying a concept you aren't familiar with ?
You know things like "Do no evil and hello mr Jinping" Or "We welcome diverse viewpoints Mr. Damore" or "We don't track where you are via your phone or what you do when not using our services"
Somebody at Google said "hey, we could abuse our power for good!" and management came back saying "it's still abuse, so we're not doing it", and that was the end of it.
Now that's funny.
This would be the same Google that plans to closely track users of it's search services for the Chinese government and silenced people talking about it ?
I’m sure they’ll be tweaking results this upcoming election.
Pretty much a given. Facebook opened a war room to deal with "Election Interference" (Yeah other than their own), Google has also been on that bandwagon, and has long been putting it's thumb on the scales with Youtube.
What's really funny though is you manage to torque some twit who thinks people won't be able to figure this out if they don't see your post.
china already makes their own chips (memory, cpu) and has their own os (kylin). that's not the issue here. AI on a chip is.
And China has been pursuing it's own AI strategy all along. Given its military and economic importance (scale of 1 to 10 it's about a 90) is there a chance in hell they will willingly be dependent on any outside nation for the tech ?
So knowledgeable. Except as reported right here on Slashdot numerous times this year, China has already licensed x86 from AMD and are in fact producing their own chips which are almost identical to Epyc.
Yeah what's your point ? That just reinforces what I said an you were too dense to understand. China is doing things that make sense for China, when they make sense for China displacing dependence on western IP by hook or by crook has always been their game.
It's only dimwits like you that believe it when they say things like "Oh we wouldn't of done this really we wouldn't but you forced our hand, how bout kissing our ass to make it right"
That use them for GPS/Speedometer/Odometer or the control system for any kind of E-Bike.
Because Europe is not going to take any measures to keep their grid stable?
Because that is magically free and granted by renewable power fairy ?

Actually some heavy industries love wind power-- they get paid to use energy at times.
That reads more like other users are forced to subsidize them.
That's a good question lets look.

I have always been impressed by the nimble intellects possessed by the left.
Good luck running heavy industry on wind.

Oh I thought you were talking about CNN
Fox is actually pretty fair and balanced by comparison but feel free rave on.
Why should they?
If I buy a piece of land on the coastline it's mine.
I can use it once a year put a lawn chair on it and watch the fireworks.
Just picked up some Casino comes in and wants to use my land, doesn't give them the right to do it.
If the government wants to use eminent domain, they can do that for their own purposes, but I don't think they can do it for corporate purposes.
A domain is just online real estate.

lol
Nooo you have just invent the Jumping Jack Attack, and we have a Jumping Jack Gap. This will require a large increase in the defense budget to fix.
95% chance you won't die from alcohol.

Or is this a different China that has a "What's mine is mine, what's yours we'll talk about, and do you dare complain" policy.

Obviously my point was that it's already happened. Yeah, I feel so stupid.
Yeah seeing as you can't distinguish an ongoing process from one time events.
