I guess in any mob you'll have some individuals who partake more, some who partake less. In Anonymous's case I think it's more that someone thought "an IRC channel? Lulz!" and then it *evolved* from there. I don't think there's much more to it than that.
"Police interested in Anonymous", is what it boils down to. Shows no sign of a clue that Anonymous isn't an organisation as opposed to the section of the geeky general public who are pissed off with current state of affairs/doing it for the lulz.
TL:DR - Scotland Yard can't Triforce.
Q: Has anyone actually *used* this. I'm as skeptical as the next guy, but it does seem they have a product that kind of works. They're even advertising ability to "play" Windows 7 on Android Tablets etc as well. Anyone got real world experience?
...maybe no. Surely the point is that Chrome OS allows Google and other devs to push the boundaries of what functionality can be contained within a web browser i.e. Chrome. If they can demonstrate that hey, you can do facetube/music/pics etc quite happily within a browser then a Google user could get a very similar experience across multiple devices with the same access to their data.
I'd see the natural home of Chrome OS as more on embedded devices - TVs, etc - rather than anything else.
Don't you just need to certify the kit once, and then ammortise the cost over multiple vehicle conversions? Or does it need to be done each and every time?
It's a stupid decision for a variety of reasons, not least that it hurst consumer, CostCo adn even Omega.
Omega want to protect their brand image - they don't want people to buy an Omega watch from anywhere other than an authorised dealer. This is why you can't generally buy them over the internet - dealers get their official accreditation taken away if they do this, so the only people I've seen doing it are either used watch specialists who don't care, or fakes. This is in theory to protect agaisnt counterfeits (of which there are some excellent ones - I have a gen Seamaster Professional and a high quality rep Planet Ocean and you have to try very very hard to tell which is which), but is really to allow them to rtain what is a very high margin on manufacturing something comparitively cheaply and selling it at a higher price.
However, if no-one can resell Omega watches - BANG - the bottom drops out of their market. People buy high end Rolex/Omega/Patek Philipe etc in part because they're a relatively solid investment - the 2nd hand value is predictable, the depreciation small and in some cases they appreciate significantly. If it gets to the stage that you buy it and it's illegal to resell it, it's not goign to be a very attractive purchase in the first place.
I know I like knowing that if the worst comes to the worst, I've got a couple of mortgage payments on my wrist.
No, your post mentioned ability to design, and ability to print. I was addressing the latter. I would imagine novices will trade designs, lowering the entry bar.
You may have been thinking something else, but that's what your post says.
I know Android well, and have always run a huge hosts file on that platform, primarily to avoid ads.
You can do the same on a (Jailbroken) iPhone.
I don't know about Blackberry - I assumed they got around the problems of web-based exploits by making the browser so appalling to use!
P.S. If you have a rooted phone then you might find "Root Explorer" or "E-Strong File Manager" (with root options enabled)useful. They let you mount the system filesystem as r/w and browse/edit it from the handset itself. Can be useful if you don't have a PC or a microUSB cable to hand.
I'm very familiar with ADB. Problem is a lot of handsets default ROMs will NOT let you mount system r/w. HTC Sense ROMs don't, for example, and it's only in the last few months that it's been acheived by the hacking community via a number of exploits.
That's the thing with Android - it's open and anyone can customise it, including handset manufacturers who want to restrict access!
what happens if you lose access to your google account? good luck getting a human at Google to help you out with it. Expect multiple days of no access...
You're completely right, although it should be pointed out that FASTBOOT/OEM on a Nexus One also displays the message that your warranty's void from that point on if you continue...
ADB won't give you root though. Try this trick on an HTC handset running Sense and you won't have R/W access to the system directory. I do on mine, but I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get there. A lot of vendors deliberately make it very hard to root their handsets. XDA-Developers usually comes through, but it can take a while.
I remember when I had to print essays using a 9-pin dot matrix printer. When I got a Star LC-24 (weird! I think I can remember the name because it was such a big deal at the time) I thought the print quality was the ultimate home setup. Fast forward a couple of years and we have £35 laser printers and photo printers.
When I last bought some carpet the invoice said "5m x 20 feet". The roll comes from the manufacturer in 5m widths, the carpet fitter works in feet and inches...!
blacklisting blocks in increasing size if the host doesn't fix spammers is how SPEWS/SORBS etc spam blocklists work. You'd be amazed how many people don't get this, and think that the blocklist cabals are the devil
I copy stuff via E Strong File manager. It can browse local network shares wirelessly. For big files, a USB cable speeds things up but I can't remember the last time I connected my phone with a cable...
Google "induced traffic".
There's a lot of transport research that goes on on academia, and its been shown that building more roads increases traffic exponentially.
Obviously this applies to areas with high current concentrations of cars. If someone wants to build a 4 lane freeway in the middle of Hicksville for a kickback this may not apply, obviously...
E.g. http://www.walkablestreets.com/wide.htm
too complex. Just use a (GSM) cell phone's unique IMEI number and take the data from local cell towers to triangulate the approximate position and speed of all cell phone users on that network. Vodafone do this in the UK and it's pretty effecient.
except if you build more roads...you get more congestion. Honestly. Demand expands at a faster rate. What's needed is a way of optimising what we *have* and encouraging car sharing/alternative forms of transport and ways of encouragign the above such as congestion charging, time-based road tolls etc.
Instead I'm going to offer to pay them an unlimited amount of money for their phone service, up to an acceptable-use policy limit of $5/month.

Citation needed! I've not seen any evidence of this. The IRC channel for Anon Ops certainly doesn't display any such qualities...

Yes, if every fax machine started spewing out this cable... http://www.buzzfeed.com/awesomer/the-single-most-damning-wikileaks-cable

because Google != the Open Handset Alliance

Doesn't this (more or less) just move the means of production to suppilers of raw materials such as alloy blocks and thermoplastic resin?
