Surely this is just the manufacturer coming up with a good FUD-based advertising campaign? People have a vague memory that there were some issues with lots of dodgy Chinese capacitors a while back. Advertising that your product uses some new technique is just going to make people think "ooh, well these are definitely different to those iffy ones that no-one really owned up to. That manufacturer probably won't suffer from any problems".
They could just keep the same manufacturing technique but give it a different name and it'd work just as well...

are you trolling? what similarity there is between a magnet to clip two things together, and the (bloody obvious) use of a small airgap between two coils of a transformer to charge things by near contact, i really don't know. but no, all of your worries are groundless.
...they'd sell less. Make less profit. They don't spend money on advertising just for fun...Big pharma lives and dies by it's megabrands and these appear to need to be advertised in the US. I'm much more comfortable with *no* advertising of prescription medication, but I guess that's an issue to address the US TV networks with, rather than the companies that avail themselves of their advertising...
So go and market that drug in Africa - nothing's stopping you doing so. You can't sell in US or Europe without FDA/MHRA approval (which you wouldn't get in this example), but unless their's any African regulators you need to satisfy, sell away. This doesn't happen in practice because it's not economic for Pharma to generate drugs of different toxicity for different markets, and probably not ethical, either. I take your point, but there's nothing stopping anyone doing what you suggest and it isn't happening, due to fairly predictable economics...
The argument should, I think, be more around Pharma having incentives to allow licenced cheap production of patentable drugs locally...
in much the same way, UK businessmen (the NatWest 3, various online betting CEOs) have been extradited to the US for alleged financial crimes that are against US law. The fact the individuals haven't done anything *in the US* doesn't appear to matter...
missing the point. i want a 3.5mm jack that normal headphones will work in for stereo audio playback. i then want 3.5mm jacks for phone headsets that have an extra set of contacts for mic. much like the way most digi camcorders and cameras use a 3.5mm jack to get stereo audio and composite video out of them - result, everyone happy.
yes, we know *all* of this. the difference is that crappy drives like the matsushita in my macbook *can't* be regionfree-flashed. they are terrible drives: intolerent of blank media, can't deal with the slightest scratches, rip at a glacial speed. presume apple aren't stupid with hardware design (although you could differ with the MB i guess! mine's fine so far bar the dvd drive) so i'd guess there's a reason for this. personally i've just bought a usb 2.0 external enclosure into which will go a pioneer dvr-111 or similar with RPC-1 firmware...
agreed on the nokia stuff - there's been a couple of years where they've kind of standardised, but my first 5 nokia gsm phones *all* used different chargers. same charging voltage, too, just different connectors.
oh, and what's *standard* about a 2.5mm jack? what's wrong with a 3.5mm one you can plug decent headphones into, for god's sake?
"Ideally it'd be possible to create different profiles, ie standard locked-down user, developer, etc, and some companies do do this. Obviously, there is a cost associated with this."
Are you in charge of stating the completely obvious at your firm?
you need to have a policy where all departments, projects, etc *accept responsibility for keeping their documentation up to date*. have a standard document set/framework. use a standard template. standard naming convention. don't get too hung up on the technology - an excel spreadsheet and a load of text files will do the job, you don't have to use documentum or anything.
standardise as much as possible, ensure people have a backup in case they get hit by a bus, and store master passwords in the safe in a sealed, signed envelope...
No. You can make one call whilst another's on hold. The conference calling is initiated by the handset, but relies on the *network* joining the calls - it is not done within the handset. You can send *data* simultaneously to voice, but not make two calls.

Yes. They do.
During a recent rollout of some electronic data capture systems in a hospital, we put in Microtouch M150 15" LCD touchscreens. These were left displaying a fixed graphic combo box for 5 days mid rollout, and 5 of 30 suffered very noticeable burn in. This isn't typical - we've used the same screens for 4 years at other sites without issue - but it does happen. First time I've seen it..
and if he'd been shot dead? would that have been appropriate "punishment" to someone for not showing ID? jesus, have some sense of proportion. not pulling out your ID does NOT justify physical violence by two burly officers. would you be this cavalier if it happened to a friend of yours?
...I am reminded of exactly what is wrong with Slashdot these days. That irritating, whiny, continual attempt to get the last word in from kids trying to outgeek one another. The guy's done something interesting - don't flame him for not being a linux guru. If you want a better, more technical explanation then go do it yourself...
"But MS has no valuable patent on the server side where it matters for Linux OS. So what you're saying seems like nonsense to me."
Surely the point is that they *would* have valuable patents on the server side? Like Active Directory for Novell Linux, or a mail server that pushes readily to Windows Mobile devices etc etc...

I disagree with you
RAZR V3i has removable transflash card. (And can be hacked to run iTunes with no song limit)
Both are horrible abortions of phones, though.
it's better than that: they all had one head.

that 20% of big pharma's R&D budget would come from, if you didn't have big pharma?
